I don't think it's going slow - I think they received information from the seller on the 9th, picked it up on the 10th and it got to Sunshine on the 11th where it was touched three times in six hours while being sorted to put on the next truck to Sydney I reckon. I presume this is not an express package?

    • +2

Probably wasn't picked up until Tuesday. The 'shipping info' items don't mean much.

Should see a Chullora scan event tonight if the driver doesn't get lost.

    • Hi Halo,
Do you think this is not slow?
I have been doing online shopping in UK, Japan and HK site, Australia domestic is really slow.
Not to mention the tiny Hong Kong. I tracked the parcel for domestic shipping in Japan, a parcel can arrive less than 24 hours can arrive from one state to another state.
No, unfortunately, I paid AUD45 for shipping but didn't get an express post :( D.Smith should send my phone by DHL instead from HK to Syd, instead, they ship from HK to Mel (only two days), then Mel to Syd (five days?!)
I don't think it make any sense becuz the shipping in AusPost is really expensive.

      • +2

Well you're comparing a shipping company that ships for one of the most spread out countries in the world with a population of 23 million, to a company that ships for a country with a population of 1.4 billion whose entire economy depends on shipping products internationally.

        • +1

What about New Zealand Post for comparison? Over there the delivery time is shorter.

        • @Roney:
That country is tiny compared to oz

        • @MrTweek: Good point, but if the item is being sent to a major centre it should be comparable. I have lived in both countries and can say hands down receiving post from NZ Post in Auckland was MUCH faster than AusPost is in Brizy.

        • @ozkiwi75:
I'm not sure what you are implying. Auspost standard mail goes via road and rail.
Melbourne to Brisbane is a 2 day drive and that won't change even though it might be major centres.
And mail to Perth will always take 4 days or more from the east coast.

        • +1

@MrTweek: That explanation makes logical sense if you are only looking at inter-city post within the two countries. But it still doesn't explain why shipments take so long when posting to a destination within the same city, or when it's from overseas (comparing the no. of days taken to deliver once the shipment lands in the city). For the case of shipments from overseas, I always just thought that there might be some additional security reasons for the delay.

  • +8

To cut costs, they canvassed the idea of only delivering by postie every second day or so, but that idea was unpopular as the CEO was on megamillions, so they hid the cost cutting into the middle by reducing overnight sorting and other activities. They hid the cost cutting into reduction of servces in the middle.

    • +3

I think most of the money go to salary :( I mean, AusPost is really expensive (comparing to other countries), but not productive at all.

      • Shhh. Stop less they privatise auspost in the name of efficiency!

I can see already see it - politicians citing shipping and courier expert, Mr Madagascar, a vocal member of a community of professional courier users…

  • +4

If you voted liberal or Labour then you are responsible or this.

You voted in a charlatan (politician) who explained to you that selling profitable public owned assets, such as Australia Post and the electricity system that taxpayers already paid for, would lead to "lower prices" and "better service". The politician did this because extremely wealthy individuals paid them money ie. legally bribed the person you voted for. so the wealthy person could make morfe money at the expense of every individual in Australia.

The wealthy person then stripped the asset removing jobs which further hurts the economy and lowering the service levels and sat back laughing as brain dead morons continued to vote for Liberal and Labour and the profits from the highest prices in the world start adding up.

Still, no surprise, the Australian population apparently has no problem with their elected leaders committing war crimes (invading Iraq for no reason other than making Halliburton billions of dollars as millions die). The Liberal party returned to power soon after committing war crimes in Iraq so it's like the Australian population doesn't give a shit what their leaders do even as they're being (profanity) by them.

    • Who do you vote for if not a politician? Lol, Pauline…

      • +21

        Yes, Pauline.

She will personally deliver every letter & parcel by flying around on her broomstick.

Write your fish 'n' chip order on the back on the envelope next to the return address while you're at it.

        • +1

I don't like it! I Want her delivering it in her shopping trolley before it's murdered.

        • She was testing her new delivery system last week, but apparently CASA "don't like it" and asked her to "please explain".

          http://www.skynews.com.au/news/top-stories/2017/07/07/hanson…

        • She will personally deliver every letter & parcel by flying around on her drone

          FTFY

    • +5

I am overseas student, so I don't get a chance to vote. But yes, I am complaining about the Australian Post Office.

    • +1

But we do not vote for our leader. We vote for a party that elects the leader, a leader whom they will later change to suit their agenda.

And if we vote for a third party, all we are doing is surrendering our vote to be cast by said third party.

In some cases, the vote that is surrendered can be used as leverage by a party leader that has very little knowledge and bagel experience, and screw up the economy of a pretty much self managed island.

So we vote for crooks and charlatans, bend over and sing Kumbaya.

    • The rich vote for whoever will make them richer and the others just believe the lies they are spun.

The good thing is we live in the best country in the world with the most liveable cities, so there's no need to improve anything and anyone who complains is just whining. Not.

    • +1

Never thought I'd hear someone raving on about war crimes on a topic regarding Australia Post.

      • Don't blame me, I voted for Trump.

    • Australia Post is owned by the Commonwealth. Hasn't been sold.

  • +4

On the flip, Officeworks picked up my parcel in Syd Saturday and delivered by 10am Monday in qld :)

    • Officeworks

ow uses couriers as their carrier. do you get the same result when you ship with startrack?

      • Nope?

      • +4

Officeworks uses Fastway as their courier.

        I think I'd prefer StarTrack.

        Startrack are thieves.
Fastway dislike signatures, they'll just throw the parcel at your front door and run away.
        Couriers Please - see Fastway.
Toll are generally incompetent. "We have a delivery for you… oh that we left at the depot. You'll have go get it now."
TNT were fairly useless, haven't dealt with them for a while. "Yes, it's leaking oil over your truck because it's upside down, see the arrow?"
DHL are good, as are FedEx.

        YMMV.

        • lol pretty much spot on mate! Glad to hear it's not just me. Been screwed over by Toll more times than I care to remember. Not to mention the dodgy subies they use.

      • OW charges less than Aust Post for the same weight/size parcel.

  • +4

I had an Auspost parcel which was about 4 suburbs from my house, delivered to me several weeks later. Courier is the way to go.

  • +2

    slow is the new fast

  • +10

They are walking from Mel to Syd with your parcel.

  • +1

because they sssuuuuucccccckkkkkkk……..I had something sent to a parcel locker - and they couldn't put it in the locker because their system broke…..but at no point tried to contact me until I showed up a week later and asked where my parcel was and they just went out the back and handed to me and said "yeah our system broke and we couldn't put a bunch of parcels in the locker, so people will just have to come collect them now"

    • I was planning to redirect my parcel to locker, but after reading so many neg. comments regarding those locker, I will pick up my parcel when I come back from travel. It's an iPhone, so I don't want it to be lost :(

      • +4

        The lockers are fine.

The people happy with them aren't the ones complaining, so you never hear from them.

That said, the parcel will only stay in the locker for 2 days, after that you need to collect it from the post office within 10 days.

  • +1

Haha. I once had one that went Sydney -> Sunshine -> Sydney -> Sunshine again.

    • +1

I have never been to VIC, guess how lucky our parcels are :(

  • Why is Australia Post so slow?

    Because they can.

End of story. Not gonna change. Move on.

    • Can Aust citizens actually sue them?
For example, not committing agreements, low outcome with high cost, postmen leave a pre-written parcel pick up card instead of knocking on your door..
Well, just saying. Know nothing about law.

      • +4

Technically, we can. It does impact some of us financially.

It will be a lengthy drawn out class action lawsuit.

The media will gravitate. Legal costs will escalate. Lawyers will salivate. Verdicts will captivate.

But to what end? It's a government owned entity. It's moving money from one pocket to another.

        • your lawsuit would be an utter failure. Unless you are paying for express post or something with delivery guarentees then you are up shit creek without a paddle. It isn't even like people lack options here, if you want speed and guarentees then grab one of the couriers. Also important to note this doesn't look all that slow so far, first part of the information is just the seller notifying post of an item to ship, Aus post probably did not receive till sometime Tuesday (can't blame Aus Post for the slowness of the poster).

        • @gromit:
Auspost and Startrack are the contracted delivery service for a fair number of medical and pharmaceutical distributors. The distributors do have a very precise guarantee on delivery times.

I am sure this is not limited to the medical field.

        • @tshow: Actually it is very much limited to medical field and a few others. they are not considered standard postal services. classified as special services by auspost.

      • No, but you can easily sur USpost if you want.

      • Not forgetting time and fuel cost just because the posties opt for slip card convenience.

  • +2

It's going around and around on a conveyor belt in Sunshine. Look! There it goes:

    http://cdn.newsapi.com.au/image/v1/3aa0eb4d5c2e61d05962859a9…

Fairly recently I had a Melbourne to Sydney parcel go via Perth. Clearly via truck. Took two weeks.

They are probably gearing up to launch "priority" for parcels just like they have with letters.

    • And I've had a Melbourne to Perth AusPost parcel come via Tasmania! Another got stuck in a loop and did a couple of laps between two NSW parcel centres before finally breaking free and heading westward.

    • +1

      http://cdn.newsapi.com.au/image/v1/3aa0eb4d5c2e61d05962859a9…

What a poser. His hi-vis still has the crease in it. Took a new one to wear instead of grabbing one from the office.

      Bang head

  • +1

I had the same issues many times with so called "Express Post". BS with their guaranteed next delivery. Tried to claim once, they said only the sender can claim it. Well, the one who bore the loss is the adressee, not the sender. Sigh.

My suggestion is to avoid use Express Post or Aust Post in general. Wait, on the other hand if you are the sender, please do use Express Post, probably there are 50% chance you might get your stuff delivered for free, if you keen to pursue the claim.

    • +1

I had the same issues many times with so called "Express Post". BS with their guaranteed next delivery.

ap has never to my understanding had a next business day delivery guarantee.

        • +1

Yes they do: Express Post Guarantee

do you know what ep guarantee is? the ep guarantee isn't that ap will deliver the mail article on the next business day, but rather they compensate the sender with a replacement ep envelope, satchel or postage paid in store if ap doesn't meet their obligations.
          https://auspost.com.au/content/dam/auspost_corp/media/docume…

40 Express Post – Failure to meet service standards
40.1 Where an Express Post article is not delivered within a time specified by Australia Post for that delivery and the provisions of clauses 40.2 and 40.3 have been satisfied, Australia Post will provide to the customer a replacement Express Post envelope or Express Post container or an Express Post Platinum container or the postage paid on the carriage of an Express Post parcel or an Express Post Platinum parcel will be refunded to the person who paid it.

        • +3

@whooah1979: Thanks for answering your own questions. No disagreement there. Btw, are you related to JV?

  • +1

Thats not too bad. One of my parcels from from one state to another, back and forth about 5 times. Took almost 2 months until it was delivered. My parcel probably flew on a plane more than many people here.

  • +1

I received a letter a week ago that took a week to arrive from the next suburb over…

  • +1

don't forget expensive! ordered a carton of winter gear from the US, shipping was $40USD.. to send back one jacket.. $80aud.

    • It costs much less to ship into Australia than it does to ship out of aus. Oddly enough there is some international post alliance or treaties that have authority over these rates etc, I think most were set up well before parcels were the main traffic, back in the day of the letter lol. Can't imagine Aus holding much sway at such levels to try and negotiate better costs

    • +2

      It is really expensive.

  • Estimated delivery by Mon 17 Jul *

there is still two more business days to go.

    • You must be a positive thinking person :D

      • Life is better that way. Cheers

        • I know I should move on. I am only stressed becuz my old phone got some prob, I order a new phone online, and it took so long to deliver. I am going to travel tmr morning!!!
          Thanks to AusPost :(

        • +1

          @madagascar:

Glass half full. You're traveling tomorrow. Enjoy that.

  • +4

Have you ever sent a package to the US??

I sent 2 packages (at the same time) to the US, to the same address (it worked out cheaper that way), on both labels I printed them and stuck them on the box. A few weeks later, i call my friend and ask if she's received them and she says she received one of them

Few weeks later, one of the packages is returned to me with a note saying "no such address, return to sender"

    !??!?!

    • +1

Avoid Aust Post like a plaque, especially for critical items.

      • +9

This is how you avoid a plaque.

    • +4

I ordered something on UK website, paid AUD45 for shipping, arrived at my door two days via DHL.
this time ordered from D.Smith, paid AUD45 for shipping, the parcel took two days from HK to Mel, then five days from Mel to SYD.
      Such a great job, AusPost.

      • +2

I have had the same experience.

        Ordered product on Monday night.

DHL from Northampton, UK to Adelaide.

Product at my doorstop midmorning Wednesday, same week. That's like 36ish hours.

        That's over 16,000km.

That's over 440kmph assuming it was travelling in a straight line and never stopping.

It's been 7 years but I am still in awe.

        • +2

I do believe AusPost walked from Mel to Syd with my parcel, that's why it took 5 days :]

  • +1

Especially if any parcel goes via their Sunshine sorting centre. It's like a black hole. Stuff disappears there for days.

They can do what they want basically.

    • +2

Every statement made above is still true if you remove the words "sorting centre".

  • I know it's comparing apples to oranges, but I do miss the punctuality & efficiency of the UK Royal Mail. When I first moved there, it was a real shock to the system to receive mail/parcels posted the previous day.

I believe the current UK government is trying to privatize it, if they do, it will be a great shame.

    • +1

It is now Royal Mail plc and listed on the London Stock Exchange.

On a personal note, Postman Pat and his Black & White Cat Jess, were laid off.

  • They're slow and slack. I had a girl like that once. In a hasty getaway my Honda bike took minor damage and I still get flashbacks when I see anyone resembling her.
Anyway, pics to come as they're on another device.

  • +1

My parcel from marrickville to hurstville went to melbourne and back to sydney…. took 9 business days. Shame they deactivated the tracking ID, was going to post it here.

  • Bought some travel SIM cards earlier in the year
Took about 3 weeks from SYD - MEL going by the date on the stamp
    Date stamped 2/2; arrived 21/2

  • +1

I think they only deliver package the times a week? Or maybe that's letters? I remember something about them doing less because people were sending everything online. I guess that would be letters, not packages… On the other hand, I think you can get express if you want it sooner

  • +1

Cutting costs. Making fewer trips so it's taking longer but delivering the same amount. It's only gona get worse.

  • +2

Auspost is slow as a snail. Everytime i see auspost as only option when buying i cringe.

  • +1

Bought a phone from eBay. DHL took less than two days to get it from Hong Kong to Melbourne and hand it over to Australia Post who took four business day to put it in the parcel locker. Then they said I need to clear the locker before 9 am of the next day or it will be moved into the post office. How they can get away with such crappy service is just beyond me.

    • I bought a phone from Kogan *(Dick Smith) from Hong Kong as well, they posted from HK to Mel (two days), then from Mel to Syd (five days). What a shame, they didn't DHL to my home!

  • Does anyone have experience ordering from Germany? Made an eBay purchase and paid for DHL shipping not realising it was actually their domestic Auspost equivalent (DHL paket). Tracking says it arrived in destination country on 7/7 but no further updates and the tracking number doesn't work on Auspost website. Expected shipping was by 12/7 (been 3 weeks). Not sure if it's sitting in customs waiting for clearance or Auspost just being slack with delivery…

  • +1

Slow is one thing, it cost a bomb to ship parcels too… gives me the gripe whenever I do a quote for shipping…

  • +2

Welcome to the new norm for Australia Post.

I'm a small business owner, sending hundreds of items each week.

Registered Post can take up to a full 10 business days to get delivered (and by "delivered" I don't mean physically collected from the post office by the recipient - I mean an attempted delivery made by the postie).

Express Post is often shown as "delivered" in online tracking, but not physically delivered until the next day. I don't know why this is, but my guess is that the posties, to meet the "next business day" guarantee, fraudulently scan it as delivered (the day it's meant to be delivered) but don't physically deliver it until the next day.

    • Don't use AusPost anymore :/ It sucks.

  • +2

They are the worst postal service in the world period! I got charged $39 for an ID check the other day it took the employee all of 5 mins.

Their service is poor in store and their delivery service is even worse its a shoking company and needs to take a leaf put of the royal mails book.

I think they have it monopolised in Australia so they just dont care.

  • it is veryy veryy slow

    • slower than a granny blocking your way to work :(

  • Government.
