350

Hi Guys,

This is my first post so apologies if i've omitted critical detail.

Just received an e-mail from Telstra, advertising the latest iPad (32gb Wifi + Cellular) on a 24 month sim only plan, totalling $20 per month ($15 for device + $5 sim only).

Specs for iPad: https://www.apple.com/au/ipad-9.7/specs/

Insert your telstra mobile service number to see if you are eligible for the offer

I already have a $5 sim only plan, so an extra $15 a month ($360) for the iPad is a win for me.

Promo ends 17th September

Terms and Conditions:

Device payment Contract: If you cancel your mobile service or the Data Share SIM plan prior to the end of the 24-month term for the iPad Device Payment Contract, you will need to pay out the remainder of your device repayments, which will be higher than $15/mth as you’ll no longer receive a credit to offset your device cost.

Offer: Offer ends 17 September. Limit of one iPad Device Payment Contract and five Data Share SIMS per Eligible Telstra Mobile Service.

Eligible Telstra mobile plan: [Consumer: Everyday Connect Data Share Plan, Mobile Accelerate Data Share Plan, Go Mobile Plan, Telstra Premium Mobile Plan, Go Mobile Plus Plan. Business: Easy Share Business Plan, My Business Mobile / Lease Plan, Go Business Mobile Plan & Business Premium Mobile Plan]

Extra Data: If you go over the monthly data allowance of all eligible data sharing services on your account, we automatically add data to your allowance for use in that month in 1GB blocks for $10 per GB. Extra Data is for use in Australia and, is shared between the eligible data sharing services on your account.

  • Is this 120hz ipad? Does it work with that apple pen?

    • +1

Unfortunately not - the iPad pro's are the only one's compatible with the apple pen

    • -5

a sheeps eye can only see in 30fps

      • lucky for samsung users then

  • What iPad do we get?

And also, I wasn't eligible but a friend was, can I enter his Phone number and get this deal?

    • +1

Considering you need to enter in all his details and it will be billed to him (and he has to stay on an eligible plan for 24 months), if you feel like committing fraud, go for it :)

    • +1

You get the 9.7" 32gb iPad Wifi+Cellular (have included a link to the apple site in the post.

Unfortunately not - by filling in the offer form with an eligible number, you create the order under your friends account - there is no way from what I can see to use an eligible number and create the order under your own personal Telstra account. Please also note that this SIM only service must stay connected with the eligible number for 24 months - see terms and conditions for more.

      • Thanks for your prompt Reply.

I'll try my luck and go onto their LIVE Chat, and see If I can acquire the deal (Wish me luck!).

I'll let you know how I go..

        • +1

          all the best man :)

        • Just tell em you got the email and it's not working. Worth a shot.

    • -1

Give the friend $480 up front & they keep the sim.

  • damn.. my number isnt eligable .. let us know if you were successful over chat

  • How much data do you get every month on this plan?

    • Whatever your phone plan has, as it's a data sharing sim.

    • None, you are simply paying $5 a month to use the data from other plans attached to same bill/account.

    • I believe it includes and extra 100MB, ontop of your existing data plan.

  • Just spoke to them via chat and phone, apparently unless you receive the text message you're not eligible. There is some sort of code in the text message.

    • I didn't need a code :)

Just got the e-mail, went to the page, entered my number and then said I was eligible. You'll then have to enter your personal details and it will submit the order for you.

  • Just a hunch, but I'd say this is targeted at people coming up to the end of their contract.
I'm finished in November, and I got the email/am eligible. Just spoke with Telstra rep about what happens if I change plans at the end of my contract….. If I change to any other eligible plan AND re-contract there's no change - however if I change to a BYO/Casual like I intend to, I would need to pay fees associated with breaking the iPad contract

    • +2

I'm on a BYO contract and got this offer. So I would say the BYO plans are eligible, as long as it's on a contract and not a month-to-month plan.

      • Interesting. The rep in the store said it needs to be an eligible plan, and a re-contract for 24 months.
The eligible plans are listed, and don't include the Go Mobile Plus BYO/Go Mobile Plus Casual plans.

I wonder if the offer has been made to people on those plans, but they're not eligible as far as new contracts go.

I'm not willing to find out whether I can take up this offer now, and sign up to the BYO plan in a couple of months

        • Yeah it's weird. One thing I've found with Telstra, most of the times whatever their T&C's are have no relevance to reality at all haha. They're all over the place.

      • Yeah same.

Can't see anything about this renewing or impacting your existing plan too so I doubt being due for renewal impacts it. You simply need to maintain an eligible plan for an additional 24 months but there's no details as to what that plan may be, so presumably you can jump between plans just fine.

FWIW my equivalent plans the $70 BYOD plan, although I only pay $40 a month for it due to some stacked discounts.

  • so good deal

  • +2

Not a deal since it requires invitation.

  • I entered my details to check if I was eligible and it signed me up. Uh oh

    • haha.

It'll tell you if you aren't eligible on the first part if you put in an invalid number. No need to fill out the remaining personal details.

  • Apple selling Wifi version for $469, but of coz this one is Cellular + wifi, (669).

but i can use my phone for hot spot and doing the same thing….

    • +5

Remember that the 4G one one has GPS and the wifi doesn't.

  • +4

Tried my vodafone number and Yay! ……. it doesn't work (Haha)

  • Dang wish i was with telstra, need a new ipad.

  • +1

I already have an iPad (bought direct from apple) on a $5 data share sim. Could I just pay Telstra the $360 for this thing and sell it immediately on gumtree?? Sells at apple for $669, so might be $250 or so profit??

    • +1

      Doubtful

Device payment Contract: If you cancel your mobile service or the Data Share SIM plan prior to the end of the 24-month term for the iPad Device Payment Contract, you will need to pay out the remainder of your device repayments, which will be higher than $15/mth as you’ll no longer receive a credit to offset your device cost.

So from that, sounds like you'd need to just keep paying it off per month rather than a once off payment like that.

  • Chatted with Telstra this morning. Definitely targeted.

Really good deal for those who are eligible though!

  • Upvoted. You can throw away the SIM and this makes it a really cheap way to get an iPad.

    • Damn not targeted to me :(

  • I got the email. Decided to take the plunge but the webform said I was not eligible so I had to ring Telstra at the number on the bottom of the email and they organised the order over the phone so give that a try.

    • Whats the number, for those who didn't get the email? :P

      • You didn't hear it from me.

        <ahem>

        1800 776 484

        • No luck. Their system 'tags' the accounts that had the email sent to them.

  • How would this show up on your Telstra bill? Still under the mobile service (so under the mobile number)? If so, for those who get their mobile phone usage reimbursed by their employer, this could be a good way to 'up' their bill.

    • It's treated as a separate service (different mobile service number), that's on a $5 data share plan (m2m) with a 24 month HRO ($15 per month).

  • No luck with online sales chat after seeing I wasn't eligible.

  • Ripper deal

    • +1

Haha, thanks Chuppa. Buy now, think later. Dammit, just got a new ipad for no reason at all.

The terms and conditions say cancellation of eligible phone plan incurs additional charges…. obviously if you never had it in the first place you would just be charged more from the get go. It pays to read the terms and conditions some times.

  • +2

Well IPad delivered yesterday all good showing up online as 5$ a month for the data share sim. I have a $90 byo plan I'll know what they are charging me for the iPad in next bill. But I'm confident its as described $5 data share Sim and $15 a month for IPad. :)
    Mark

  • Anyone orderd successfully without a eligible plan?

    • Yes I did successfully place the order and had the iPad delivered but that's when I came across the problems as I no longer have a postpaid plan with Telstra.

I think if you have any postpaid plan (even those that aren't listed as eligible it would still go through). It is only a problem if you are on Prepaid (like me) or don't have any services with Telstra.

My options were to cancel the order and return the iPad or go onto a more expensive tablet plan or sign up for a phone plan.

      • How do you return your ipad after you already received it ?

    • Managed to order two as I needed two data share sims. I am not eligible so used the other link successfully.

  • Anyone with no eligible plan successful get an iPad?I got Telstra prepaid mobile service and looking forward to get this iPad deal if possible.
