Life after eBay. Has Anyone Else Undergone The Detox?

Hi

So I had a reasonably bad day at work and then to top it off, I discover my workmate gets another targeted ebay buying offer. Anyway after venting at him, I resolved the matter.

Luckily google has helped me locate a self-help group within my local community, so throw it at me. What are your tips and advice for avoiding a relapse?

PS: Ozbargain is set as my browser homepage.

Thanks
Markus

why are ebay promotions targetted. I'm sick of hearing from workmates about their fantastic offers from ebay compared to what i am offered

Could you please clarify your concern ?

Thats okay. Understanding the issue is simple. Why do i not get offered similar ebay promotions to my colleagues. Seems that you rank customers. Please reset my ranking

I'm sure there is still a lot of whine

        Old joke:

Q: How can you tell a plane full of English tourists has just arrived?
A: The engines have stopped but you can still hear the whining.

Poor Umar having to deal with you and not being able to reply with any expletives.

    • I'm sure he posted memes about it in the employee fb group afterwards so it's all G.

    • Umar should shouted him a vibrator, cos he obviously wanted pleasure from eBay shaftings lol.

Why not do what most people do and make multiple accounts?

    • +1

Because they still win. I'd rather vote with my feet

      • But this way you still don't get discount codes… So it's not like you've won here

        • I have bought from sites in the past that have offered loyalty points but never earnt more than a few dollars. Can anyone recommend the better ones?

        • +4

@Markusaus: I hear eBay has good discounts from time to time.

        • @D C: (profanity) ROFL, I needed a laugh thank-you.

  • My wife was upset that I didn't offer them 30 mins to resolve the matter.

Was she also upset she's married to a man child?

Why did you close your account within 9 minutes, when you told Umar you were gonna give him 15?

Poor Umar probably had the best response and you didn't even follow your end of the deal.

    Poor Umar…

    • Honestly my ferry arrived on time. I thought i had a few extra minutes.

      • +11

I think your ferry left the port a while ago…

        • You however seem to be ignorant. that ebay auction can end early.

  • We got three codes. :)

    • 3? Rookie! 5 here, still don't even think I'll use them all…

      • I know. It's a shame that eBay didn't give codes to all the user ids. I don't think we have any money leftover from hump month.

  • Congrats on closing your account. Now there's one less account which can possibly receive promo codes. Better odds for the rest of us.

  • Wow, here's our winner for "Whinger of the Week".

He can't close his account yet, how's he going to file a dispute on his 'long overdue' iPhone: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/318325?

Different person lol, madagascar there Markusaus here

      • Doh.

The WoW award still stands though.

  • Thanks for the advice so far. I have no desire to be dishonest. Just looking to be treated fairly.

Anyone got an opinion on who else offers reasonable consumer protection?
At this stage my paypay is still open so maybe I just deal any issues with using that.
However I would prefer to close that as well.

Are AMEX and Visa chargebacks reliable for non reciept of goods?
It seems to be the main issue I've had with China Post; and most of my local spend is convenience based so I'm not saving anything really.

  • Haha, some mothers do have em.

    • There's been some right numpties posting lately.

In just a couple of days we've had this bloke whinging he missed out on a targeted offer, never mind site-wide ones come around just as often; the now-deleted thread trying to sue Durex for a hole in his condom and the one who brought an electric sharpener from the USA and wondered why it blew up when he plugged it in here.

And that's before you get to the comments!

      • I missed the Durex one! :( Google cache maybe?

What next? you will delete your ozb account, because you weren't fast enough to get a deal that has been posted by TA and limited for 500 people?

  • It's called a disloyalty discount. If you buy quite often, they know they don't need to entice you to buy and therefore do not send you decent offers.
Same goes for Woolworths and coles for example, the less you spend there, the better offers you will recieve because they want you to shop there more. Once you're spending more there, they set higher spend minimums to make you keep spending more. Common practice nowadays.
So if ebay are telling you their offers are completely random, they're lying.
