Looking on the malwarebytes page in support forum I have seen that other people have purchased lifetime licences that have expired.
The company stated that third party stores are still selling copies but they stopped supporting them in 2015. As the company themselves stopped selling them in 2014.. I can't find anywhere on their website saying an unlimited licence…

  • Who actually uses this kind of software nowadays?!

    • +1

People that need to protect themselves from all the malicious software on the computers of people like you ;)

I do. It actively blocks nefarious requests or links from other websites. I'm not a 'downloader, but you'd be surprised what it blocks, particularly if I misclick an ad or click a disguised link in haste. I have the free version on another machine, so obviously it's easy enough to compare what it pulls up.

I th5ik they were referring to Windows :-P

These unlimited licensed expire, no deal

  • I am not sure with others but I had the lifetime license years ago and it still runs on my pc. Still blocks malicious websites. I dont just install any unknown app so really cant say much about that.

    • Same, but I bought mine when they were still officially on sale.

  • A deal offering this y'day was $us24 & got removed.

  • Deal is a no deal. With the expiring "unlimited" licence it is not wroth the cost especially when they raise the price 50%.

  • For anyone tempted. Malwarebytes stopped selling lifetime licences in March 2014 (with version 2)

This might be legit (selling old lifetime keys), but it might be fraudulent. The licence key may work initially, it may work forever. But it may stop working all together when Malwarebytes revokes your licence.

Have a scroll thru this old post.

  • Malwarebytes are still honouring the lifetime Pro licence I purchased years ago, even through a number of upgrades. However, they have stopped supporting all lifetime keys activated after 2015 when they no longer sell them. Thus, anyone who buys these may have just a year of subscription at best.

    • if it was purchased as a lifetime license, how can they turn around and say you can't use this as lifetime.
How do they know that someone didn't purchase 10 lifetime license when they offered them and is just keeping them for spares.

      • I presumed there was a grace period given for activating those licences following their announcement to move to monthly subscription.

  • Not really unlimited, no support from dev for this licence.

  • I wouldn't say I've become anti anti-malware products but I'm a lot less enthusiastic about these products than I have been in the past. My main issue is the malware still has to reach your computer before anything can be done about it (if it's a 0 day then it can't do anything about it) but also these products really only serve to slow down your computer.

I've found operating my browser(s) in a sandbox to be a much more secure option without the need for resident bloatware. Each to their own but definitely reconsider your position if you think having an anti-malware product is really going to protect you. It's a longer more difficult path but certainly better if you evaluate your requirements and make adjustments from there.

Some good basic tips. Your every day use account should never be an administrator account. Change the default RDP port (3389) or disable RDP entirely if not using it. If your router supports it block all traffic and only open the ports you require. If not, you can do the same with the Windows firewall but I generally find that quite cumbersome to use. Here is a list of commonly used ports and what services run over them.

No solution is 100% but the above steps go a long way towards protecting you and the only real cost is a little bit of time to learn how to do what it is you need to do.
