Posting Deals Whilst in Penalty Box

The primary purpose of the penalty box is to ensure high quality deals are made on Ozbargain. Punishing the poster is secondary to that main objective. So when someone in the penalty box believes there is a good deal then moderators should point to the anonymous deal submission. Not all rule breakers post rule breaking deals all the time. That way deals can be premoderated.

If you're in the PB, you can't comment on anything

    • The contact ozbargain submission box still works I presume, and if not email works?

        Yeah true

Not sure this scenario would come up often though. Anyone that posts 'good' deals should know how to tow the line

No, you don't get popped in the penalty box if your post isn't a high quality deal. Ozbargain is a broad church. Some deals are very ordinary whilst others are great. Some deals appeal to the masses, other to a small niche. You get placed in the Penalty Box for breaking the rules.

What is the Penalty Box on OzBargain?

It is a place to put users who have violated the Rules & Guidelines. Users in the penalty box can still log in, but with limited capabilities.

Penalty box placement can be temporary or permanent; it is dependent on the offence type and/or number of past offences.

    • Most of the rules relate to ensuring high quality deals and not spam are posted on Ozbargain.

Which is aimed at businesses primarily.

Someone gets put in the penalty bin it's more likely because of abusing someone or sockpuppeting

Absolutely nothing to do with the quality of a deal post.

    • What Baysew said. Here's a list of pre-defined penalty box reasons that the moderators can choose from:

      • Artificial Voting
      • Blacklisted
      • Banned/Counterfeit items
      • Circumventing store ban
      • Exceeding store posting limit
      • Ghost account
      • Ignoring Warnings
      • Invalid deal posts
      • Invalid email address
      • Legal Threat
      • Personal attack
      • Referral/Affiliate Spam
      • Selling/Soliciting in comments
      • Sockpuppeting
      • Spamming
      • Store representative misconduct
      • Trolling

Probably only "spamming" is related to the quality of the deal, and even then most spams are pretty obvious. We rarely ban accounts posting unpopular deals (although stores might get automatically store-rep banned for continuing posting unpopular deals — see Performance-Based Store Ban).

  • I was in the pizzabox once. I kept my deal for 10c twine to myself that time, and the world was so much the worse off for it.
    Dark days them
