ZTE Axon 7 (Gold or Grey) - $499 (Was $699) @ JB Hi-Fi

260

[And yes, it has Band 28]

Hi guys,

Long time lurker (investor ;) and 1st time poster.

This is a great dual-sim phone in sub-500 category. Beautiful display and ATMOS/Dolby digital speakers. Some of features from the website:

5.5 WQHD (2560x1440) Gen 4 Gorilla Glass Display
20MP Auto Focus Main Camera with OIS, 8MP Front Facing Camera
64GB Storage
4GB RAM
3.5mm Earphone Port
USB Type C Port
WIFI 802.11b/g/n/ac
Bluetooth 4.2
GPS/AGPS
Accelerometer, Proximity, Ambient Light, Gyro. Hall
Micro SD Slot
Fingerprint Reader (rear mounted)
Dual Speakers
Quick Charge
3250mAh Battery

Even though it is marshmallow out of the box, it can be updated to nought by SD card method. There is a great support forum on whirlpool (http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2619618) Sifudean (ZTE employee) providing help and guidance. There have been earlier discussions on this phone under previous deals. I think the most important bit is the "AXON 7 VIP Complimentary Accidental Cover Package - AUD$300.00 value". Please read more about it on the ZTE Australia website (http://www.ztemobiles.com.au/feature_AXON7.htm).

Newer Axon 7s is China only at the moment and Axon 8 is at best 6 months away. So grab this if you are in the market for a new good looking beast.

For people with AGL account can use AGL Rewards (https://www.aglrewards.com.au/) to buy JB Hi-Fi gift cards at 6% discount bringing the price of the phone down to $470.

Thanks.

you are a special boy, special in a way i wouldn't want to be special in

    • Thanks TB. I am reassessing my Coca Cola holdings at the moment ;)

  • mmm this one or the lg v20…

    • LG v20 is for the enthusiast. this is not bad. it has Dolby atmos and front facing speakers.

The other thing to consider is support. sounds like you need to do extra for zte, but LG will be fine (Ota update)

      • but the LG v20 is 100 cheaper

        • get the v20. can you post the link?

@mbck: no deal atm but deals are regular

Many ppl may not know, but the best part with this phone is audio.

Dual speaker, and excellent the best dac /amp in any phone, any.

    Decent spec is just bonus.

  • Anyone know he the main camera would compare to other flagship handsets? Only slightly worse than an S8 or significantly worse?

    • +1

I would say significantly worse in low light from my previous research but during day shots only slightly worse. Saying that, with the money saved you could but a decent camera.

it's pretty good. very good from my reading actually. even 4k video is great. a tad over saturated, but that makes things more exciting.

panorama is where it falters a bit though.

I'm very tempted to jump. looking at this or the xz premium

Haha I was thinking the same… the fact that the xzp has that wavy camera problem was a dealbreaker for me.

Seriously looking at this now and might pull the trigger very soon as my z5 is starting to show signs of being out out date (more so than my z3 in terms of performance.)

Night shots looks fine to me….better than iPhone…

Have to get a new phone for the wife.
She's after a good camera phone.
This would probably do but the Sony XZ Premium Kogan had on offer would have a better camera I assume.
However this thing has a great AMOLED screen and audio… and is about $200 cheaper.
      *** edit
after seeing some reviews I think I should skip this deal.
Camera is quite poor in anything but bright daylight.

Google up camera distortion on xz premium and prepare yourself for a shock.

        • I guess it makes sense. Would anyone buy a Chinese brand lens for an expensive Canon or Nikon DSLR? They just haven't been in the high end optics game long enough to compete at this level IMO. Maybe another 10 years?

      • Have to get a new phone for the wife.

        Selfie cam isn't great.

  • Does this have a notification led?

    • Yes, though I can't figure out how to assign colour to specific apps, so just stuck with whichever default colour assigned.

  • Might wanna look into flashing a ROM if you're getting this phone (warranty might be void), as the stock software on this is quite hideous.

  • Trying to decide between this or the LG V20 both from JB as want the local warranties. I think I would prefer the V20 for the camera even though its $100 more though I'm concerned about the size for pockets… Given I'm currently using a MOTO G (2013) both will be a huge jump :D

  • Hey, where is the V20 $100 cheaper? It's $100 more at JB….

  • Does this have a removable battery?

    • +1

No, and it is very difficult to repair.

I have had to join to respond to some of the mis-information I see here.

    1) Camera - night shots / low light - Update the firmware and it is much improved. Most of the reviews are from the Marshmallow days and getting reviews re-done with Nougat is difficult. Also there are plenty of USA reviews but that is their firmware and hardware builds and not our model. We listened tot he feedback globally and R&D worked on it.

    2) Difficult to Repair - It has the included Accidental Cover Package so as long as there is no liquid damage you will either get your device back repaired (depending on the issue - some we can fix here in Melbourne ourselves) or a new device. So how is that difficult? It is not a user repair as you would destroy speaker panels and engineered adhesive strips before even getting to the hardest part of opening the device.

I hope that clears those two items up.

    Regards,

    D.

    • I think you've probably misunderstood the Difficult to Repair part, I'm sure the person that brought it up literally meant repairs done by the user, not sending it back for a warranty repair.
