@dragonindespair: TIL that China does dodgy things…

      • It'll be a joint development - Xiaomi and Philips have collaborated on a number of products in the past.

  • Max lumens 450. That is not very much.

    • Yeelight goes up to 550lumen on white.

I own one of these. It's a philips manufactured globe that Xiaomi has licenced access to its smart home ecosystem.

It is compatible with the Yi Home app, but not the yeelight app.

Even in the Yi Home app, the GUI for control of the globe is different to that of the Yeelight globes…… It's more reminiscent of the Philips Hue interface.

The globe is not compatible with the Philips Hue ecosystem.

Not a bright globe, but well suited to a lamp or other secondary light source.

  • For anyone with experience with these, do they use the same protocal/app as the xiaomi yeelights? would this work with home assistant/openHAB?

edit: it seems this has been partly answered

  • I run a couple of these in lamps, and they are good using basic timer type automation but no good if you want to use with IFTTT.

Also to get them to show up in the app you need to set your location to Mainland China.

i got them from gearbest a couple of weeks ago when i was researching Yeelights

  • Excuse my ignorance but what do most people on here use these for? Security light for when they are not home? Mood lighting?

Just trying to think what practical use I can find for them around the home and if they'll come handy when away for extended periods.
