Garmin Epix Full Color TOPO Maps Outdoor Watch eBay US $193.51 Shipped (~AU $244) @ GPS City eBay

COZZIE

Do you want full colour maps on your wrist and look rad? IMO this is an absolute bargain if it's what you need. Think of this watch as the hikers 'Fenix' but no built-in heart rate (can use external). Perfect for camping, hiking etc. To my knowledge it's the only wearable device capable of topographic maps. This US based seller has sold 50 items at the time of listing so I'm guessing they have plenty more. The price was also recently dropped another $35USD

Touch screen
GPS
GLONASS
Barometric altimeter
Compass
Accelerometer
Thermometer
8GB memory

This seller has a "make an offer" tab on the listing so you should be able to get this even cheaper.
There might be ebay.com (US) codes that work. I tried the Aussie ones but I never completed checkout.
The TOPO maps are probably only for the U.S.A but you should be able to "purchase" OZ maps from Garmin Australia or "other" sources.

  • Note that this watch has been abandoned by Garmin since last year, with no further firmware updates and a number of outstanding (though not critical) bugs in the last firmware, hence the cheap prices. Still the cheapest way to get a GPS watch with maps though

    • I was unaware of any issues. I just noticed the price and was blown away. I do not own this watch. Thanks

  • powered by internal non-replaceable battery ?

what's the battery life like ?

    • A far as I know all of these GPS watches have "non-replaceable" rechargeable batteries. Garmin state: GPS mode: Up to 24 hours
UltraTracâ„¢ mode: Up to 50 hours. As a standalone watch, much longer but that's not the purpose of this device.

This is not a bad watch. With the newest update, it has decent battery life but not as good as a Fenix 3. However if you turn on all the features, it will probably last only 1 day.

BIG NOTE: this will likely have the local topo map (USA). So you will have to get AU/NZ map
ANOTHER BIG NOTE: I find that it is not that great to use the watch for map as the screen isnt that big and it does use more power.

However it is worth $250 for a decent outdoor fitness watch.
