  • Does anyone know if this is assembled using screws and bolts or the hooks that lock each other?

    • +2

From the looks of it, it is the hook type

If u look on the aldi site and look at the frame it has the hole lock thingy design

      • Thanks Teal

    • Hi, I bought this shelf a few months ago, it uses latches that lock into the holes. Solid shelf, bought it to hold my music equipment (speakers, amps, etc).

      • Thanks for confirmation.

How do these compare with the Bunnings jobs that's half the price when on special? Curious as need to buy some for my garage.

  • +2

I couldn't justify the cost & space but love the toolbox bar fridge

    • and you can justify that fridge?

      • +1

.. No sorry not talking about shelves was changing the subject to talk about the cool fridge for the man cave also available.

I bought a few of these for my shed a while back, they are excellent. Personally i'd spend a few bucks more and get this. I'm sure there'd be equivalent in other states.

    • sorry this is a novice question

what is the difference between the Aldi and the gumtree ad you linked?

Is it more weight or wider? etc

    • +1

Some of that long span stuff is wobbly even when weighed down with load.

Bunnings is clearing out GSS branded racks at the moment, cheap as chips if you can still find spans. 200kg per shelf, and locks tight. I just set up 3 spans in my workshop.

      • I've found mine quite good, not wobbly at all.

Also I'm quite doubtful of the Aldi's 625kg rating per shelf. I think it's an error and should be total.

        • +1

No reason to doubt it…the Bunnings equivalent I listed also has 625kg per shelf and looks identical.

    • Aldi's is 625kg per shelf.
      Gumtree is 200kg per shelf.
Assuming these ratings are correct, I would get the Aldi one. Good to have the extra capacity in case it is needed and usually an indication of construction quality.

      • If you compared the 2 side by side no way would you put 625kg on the Aldi racking. Look at how beefy the uprights and spans are on the longspan versus the Aldi shelving.

      • Thats probably not accurate, or a misquote. To be that kind of weight, all systems ive looked at are quite substantial in construction comparatively.

Bunnings has GSS build it component systems at 200kg per shelf, and Rackit build it component systems at 1000kg per shelf, and the two are easy to see why Rackit is 1000kg.

Seriously if in the market, check Bunnings GSS is being sold at like 20% its original price. Whats left where you are, I cant say.

It's ok. Let people put 2500kg on one of these shelves and see what happens. Please record video.

        • +2

Yeah highly doubt the Aldi is 625kg per shelf. I reckon it's the total, just like the equivalent Romak one from Bunnings which was on special $148 almost a year ago

@CVonC: the shelf you linked above is also listed as 625kg/shelf…

          @braddsey:

well there you go! anybody wanna trial parking 2 of their cars on it?

        • @CVonC: Only if you can dismantle the cars and spread it across all the shelves ;)

        • @amts:

sure. just gimme the keys. easy. ;)

  • Love the tool box :D

  • inb4 "Bunnings will have a competing offer"

  • I bought 4 of these Montgomery 1800x1230x540mm for $54 last month @ Bunnings. Best value for money in terms of size/$.

  • I've got the 'Rack It' shelving from Bunnings. Built like a tank and looks like it should last forever.

Note: the above is purely a comment offering another alternative if someone wants even more heavy-duty shelving, and is NOT dissing the options mentioned by the OP and others.

Had been going to buy the Aldi unit on Saturday - but have also been watching Bunnings to see if they would respond. This morning I found this on the Bunnings website: https://www.bunnings.com.au/montgomery-4-tier-heavy-duty-she… May be of interest.
