Rottnest Island (WA) $29 Same Day Return Ex Fremantle (Normally $79)

1000

Awesome deal. Seems to be available all summer long. No idea how long it will last.

Looks like they are responding the news of the new operator kicking off soon that was in the news this week. They've been price gouging for years.

Heaps of dates available.

EDIT: It has to be same day and from Fremantle - B-Shed and Northport.

Kids cost more weirdly so just set them as adults.

Hopefully they take a nice hit from the new operators and lose a lot of income.

I've lived in Perth for 15 years and only ever been to Rottnest when helping out with one of the swimmers. Any other time it's just far too expensive. This brings it down to a far more reasonable price, so thanks OP.

Similar time period, never been to Rotto. Looks like I'm going soon though thanks OP!

Rottnest Island $29 Same day return (Normally $79)

    Does that include airfares ?

    • +5

Sure, just get on your closest pig and it'll whisk you there.

    • +16

3 of us took return flights from Jandakot to Rottnest because it was only about 30% more expensive vs the ferry and a hell of a lot more fun.

      • +1

        Who'd you fly with?

        • Can't have been jv.

        • was around 6 years ago and I can't recall the name of the company but we booked it after seeing a flyer in the hotel we were staying at.
The pilot picked us us from the CBD and drove us to Jandakot before flying us over in a 4 seater.

      Yeah, and…

news of the new operator kicking off soon

…I'm wondering if the OP did a pun intended?

  • Will they refuse to take you back if you buy two day return tickets but use them to stay for a week?

    • I don't see how they could refuse you.

    • As long as you have accommodation on the island I don't see it being a big issue.

  • Rottnest Island (WA) Same day return?

What does this suppose to mean?

    Island entry ticket?
    Hotel/Room booking?
A promise to go back home the same day?
    Bus/Ferry/Air/Pig fare?

    • +3

It's pretty common for people to do day trips, accommodation on the island is expensive even during off-peak season.
The last time I went we caught a ferry over at 7am and came back at 4pm, it was enough time for us to travel around the island by bus and foot in the town areas (we didn't take or rent pushbikes), have some relaxing beers at the pub overlooking the water and a feed, it really was a great day.

The ferry only takes about 45 minutes so day trip is doable for sure.

      • Thanks but the question remains! What does this Rottnest Island $29 mean?

        • You buy the whole island for $29. Bargain.

        • Non-joke reply: It's a return ferry from B-shed Fremantle on the same day, including admission fee.

        • @Zaenille: Thanks a lot

  • +1

I can't see where you can actually purchase the tickets?

  • Thanks OP, booked for November.

  • cheers just bought 4

  • +8

    Cheaper from here

    • +1

Cheers mate just saved me $19 dollars!

  • I also don't see how to buy these tickets. I would like to go anytime next week however I can only see 30 dollars one way plus admission 18 dollars.
Would anyone please give me some guidance? Many thanks.

EDIT: I see now, have to play with dates, thanks.

  • How fo you find these prices? Never been there before but i take this is just to get to island and back, tour buses on island etc are extra and what about kids are they full fares also?

Kids fare is more but their admission fee is less. Still $29 each return.

        Adult - $29 ($11 fare + $18 admission fee)
        Child (4-12) - $29 ($22.50 fare + $6.50 admission fee)
        Child (1-3) - $0

        • Ah makes sense.

May as well book adult for flexibility though.

@happydude: Yeah, in case they have their birthday and suddenly grow up to a teen, like in sims.

        • @Zaenille:

More in case they can't go for whatever reason it then leaves all options open.

        • @happydude: True

  • Ok, so I got 2 adult tickets for Friday next week 11th of August from Freemantle port. It is easy to reach that port from Perth CBD by bus, only about half an hour and around 4-5 dollars bus or train ticket.

  • Booked, thanks!

So glad someone is stopping the monopoly they have had for a decade since they bought out most of their competitors.

Takes a day and prices half to what they should have been all along!

    • +1

Generally with monopoly it takes about a decade to finish.

      • Land on a hotel on rottnest street and it'll cost a fortune

  • Anyone recently been can comment on bike rental and or ferry charges for bikes?

    • They offer a cut price (I think $16) rental deal between 12-3 from memory, or $30 for a day. The bikes are decent, managed to get a big Giant bike as I'm 6'4" - but they've got huge suspension. Felt like I was riding through molasses compared to a road bike.

  • Thanks OP grabbed 3 tickets for myself and parents. Good family trip.

10 years in Perth and haven't been to rottnest yet haha

      You're not missing anything.

About to go there as a new parent, which might change my mind

      • But I have never been there :p.

Always had the dream to go there since high school.

Is anyone offering good rates on a Quokka? Asking for a friend…

    • $2 on Thursdays

    • I hear that kicking a quokka will cost you around 4 grand ;)

  • +1

it won't let me select a ferry time its just blank! must of been ozbargained

  • Do they still have the bike path that goes around the whole island? Last time I went was when I was 10yo and rode around the island.

  • Had tickets in my cart at 4pm, came home at 6pm and tried to buy tickets. none available any dates.

Like no dates at all I want.

  • +1

    And its gone

  • Well this is no fun. I'm heading to Perth at the end of the month for the first time, and was going to try book ferry tickets this morning. In the absence of this deal, what's the best option?

  • Already gone. Lame.
