  • $192 for a tourist Visa, can that be right?

    http://www.vfsglobal.com/india/australia/visa_services/fees_…

    • +16

Vfs does the process for the visas. They are like an agent and hence the higher charges. Apply directly through the Indian government website for the visa.

      https://indianvisaonline.gov.in/visa/index.html

It costs only $50 USD and you get the visa in a day.

      • Oh thanks…. wow what ripoff merchants they are, and they occupy the first full page of "India Visa" Google search results too.

      • +4

You're a champion. Was nearly going to pay $200

      • Thanks.

      • Thats for the e-visa. The VFS tourist visa is multi entry 1 year visa. E-visa is now for 60 days double entry. VFS is the exclusive agent of the Indian embassy in Australia. Any other agent will need to go through them. The Indian embassy does not take visa applications directly.

There is no real reason for a tourist to need to use VFS. It should only be used by people working in India or people who need longer visas.

Wowzers thats cheap and only the single stop over as well. Anything for Mumbai?

  • Inclusive of school holiday period too! Wow.

  • Thanks OP. Great post

    • You're welcome. I was tracking MH fares to Kuala Lumpur & noticed that Delhi was only a little bit more. Eg Melb to KL is $554, vs going to Delhi for $588.

    • Hi,

Thanks for reporting this. Thats a really odd bug - it looks like there might be a problem with IWantThatFlight.com.au loading in your browser. Which browser are you using?

      • IE11. It is at work so I have no idea if there's a restriction causing it but I never use to have problems, only in the past couple weeks.

        • Try Chrome or ff

        • @dealman: Those are not an option here at work, not approved. Not allowed to install programs either.

        • Hmmm - I just tried IE11 and also Edge, both worked ok. I am guessing it is some kind of a restriction that you have at work that is preventing part of the site loading correctly.

If you are at work, is it possible to try it using a different browser? Thanks again.

        • @IWantThatFlight: Didn't think of edge, i'll try that.

Edit: Just tried and same error. Probably something Work has done but hard to know what. Just makes booking flights at work even harder!

  • anything for ahmedabad?

  • Anything to delhi like all of october or until early Nov?

  • Wow, this is cheap. If you're lucky you'll get a $800-$900 fare but it's for really bad travel periods. If this was for Bangalore I'd buy now, think later, true OzB style

  • +1

If anyone wants to go to other cities, there's heaps of local airlines (Vistara, IndiGo, Jet Airways, etc etc) that all compete on price so jump onto makemytrip.com and search for flights to get you from Delhi to wherever.

    • Of course pay with a international transaction fee-free card (28 Degrees, Bankwest Zero, Coles Rewards MasterCard) in INR to get the best price too.

Is it safe for Chinese to travel in India atm?

    • +1

      Why wouldn't it be?

        • Non Hindi, what's even that?

        • -8

@ms: I meant people that do not follow Hinduism - Christians, Muslims, Sikhs and other minorities….

        • @kiwiinoz:
Haven't seen much news about attacks on Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists etc. Only a few cases of attacks on muslims for carrying/consuming beef.

Do you have any other news articles to share?

        • +6

          @kiwiinoz:
Not much different to any other country where a large number of minorities live. muslims are attacked in US, sikhs are attacked in US.

Any minority is usually not safe in muslim majority country.

Don't think it's got much to do with travel/tourism.

        • +1

@ms: Well if you agree no minority is safe anywhere on the Earth then migrants to Australia shouldn't complain about racism….lol

        • @kiwiinoz:
          I agree.

        • +6

          @kiwiinoz:

Have you ever been to India?

Biggest section of minority population is Muslims and majority of their forefathers were Hindus before Moguls evaded and forced a minority religion on a majority community. And all the fear mongering in press is about Muslim community these days.

You will be amazed when you visit India and realise that there are so many Presstitutes who would fill their coffers at the cost of somebody's dignity.

We visited once lived with a family of migrants who had to leave pakistan owing to partition, they were a Sindhi family.

Even though they constitute less than 0.5% of population, as a community in totality refused to take any reservations, benefits which are there for minorities. Family living together of 4 generations, once at dinner I asked why did you guys refuse to accept minority status the old man said "There hasn't been a time when we wanted something and we didnt get, hard work has never failed us". And I think that is true blue migrant spirit.

We also lived with a Muslim family and a Sikh family and they said didn't feel unsafe ever.

I would advise anyone to visit and live with a family and not a hotel, you will be amazed.

    • -7

Nah they run you over with car and leave the country

      • +1

Will be better if they carry "headphones" for their friends.

      • Who are they, lol?

        • Suicine94 will enlighten us.

    • There are millions of Chinese looking people living India. What makes you think an Australian Chinese will be targeted.

      • +1

The recent border conflict between India and China seems very hot, just wondering what's the general Indian Joe's reaction to the situation

        • Hmm. There are billion people. Can't predict each ;). There is always risk in travelling. No matter which part of the world you want to go. Generally Indians are peaceful.

        • +2

You mean the average kumar? Not many joes there.

        • +1

          @barbargain:

Lol no their not. They always on the news assulting women. And in india they had this big thing to educate the puclic that rapes not the girls fault.

        • @suicine94: Really? I hear more news in 25 million population (women assaults) than 1.25 billion. And their Media is worst.

        • @suicine94: I completely agree with you….No absolute respect for women in India….

        • -1

Chinese are a much bigger army than India….India probably only dares to Challenge Pakistan….lol…I read somewhere Chinese Army has been freely roaming in the Indian territory and Indian Army can't do anything about it…

        • @barbargain:

I think you are just bias.

        • @suicine94: Don't know mate. Every one try to think what they know is right than what is real.

        • @kiwiinoz:
Lot of them in Australia too, stealing baby milk from supermarkets and sending it to China. We can't do much about it too. Oh and they roam freely.

        • @ms: Yeah but Indian Govt. can certainly raise it with the UN if really do care about the illegal Chinese entry into their territories….but oh forgot pollies only want to fill up their own pockets everywhere..lol

        • @kiwiinoz:
UN is a toothless tiger. When have they done anything useful?

  • Is it also flying from India to Melbourne same price?

    • Nope, doesn't look like that. It's for the flights originating from Oz to India

  • Anything to Kathmandu, Nepal from Melbourne?
    Around 23 sept - 25 oct

In Easter school holidays I did Dehli to Jaipur to Agra back to Dehli traveled by 2nd class AC train for Dehli-jaipur and agra-dehli.

Admittedly I was only there for 7 days… but I would recommend against travelling in India if you are female and by yourself.

Other than that it was fantastic and saw some really weird Sh!t.

Ps. Don't miss the step well at abhaneri

    • +1

No idea why I was negged.

Perhaps I shouldn't share in the future.

      Oh well.

      • Don't worry about negs. Some people feel happy taking out their frustration on others.

    • Thanks for mentioning Abhaneri, that's on our list.

Must say you are a brave girl.
I can only imagine how much difficult it would have been if you traveled alone, in some parts of Northern India is really scary specially when you are a girl and traveling alone(irrespective of the fact whether you are a local or foreign person).

If you happen to go again do visit eastern part - Shillong, Darjeeling and may be a short trip to Bhutan.

    • Being someone with Indian background I can understand where you are coming from. I would also not recommend a female to travel in India on her own.

Things are getting better but it will take time to get there.

      • Getting better? The news tells otherwise…Maybe because more women are coming forward to report these rapes than in past that is why news is filled up with rapes in India..I read somewhere there is a rape every 20th minute in India…not sure if it is true…

        • +1

I would not say rapes do not happen or people are not hurt on streets as that would be just plainly wrong. Those things happen everywhere in the world. When I said changing, I meant more and more are getting educated which will end up helping in a long run.

Now try to compare figures in terms of %age you will be amazed what you get throughout the world.

Since there are close to 70000 news papers and nearly 300-400 news channels they cannot keep on running same stories 24x7. They exhaturate every single incident. They even publish things without verifying facts. Social media didn't help much in this decade either since things do not need to be verified before they are published. Most of the content you find on FB is not even verified.

Indian media for their TRP like to make things worse especially when current PM of India do not given private media the same value (perks) that past governments did for decades. Current PM only takes staff of government owned media with him which other media houses do not like when they get 2nd hand information. Most of the media houses are owned by companies from overseas with their own agenda and interests.

An example of similar trend you would have noticed when few years back Australia was pained as racist nation because few students from India were involved in some unfortunate incidents. You might not have heard of that in news here since (may be covered for 1 minute on a day when indecent would have taken place). Whereas in India, news papers and tv channels were running stories for weeks (multiple times same day). When did it stop ? When the reporters where flown to Australia in business class on our tax payer money and all their expenses were paid for by Australian government since their reporting was hurting multi billion $ international students industry.

I have seen people here commenting about people being killed for beef. Most of the times it turned out issue was something else. Have you seen how many Hindus were killed in West Bangal or Kerala state in hands of m*? Recently there was a fight for seats in long distance train and that was turned into hindu-muslim thing by media since person who died was a muslim. Similarly a guy was killed in Mumbai by group of other men which was showed world wide on social media as hindus killing muslim whereas it was dispute over gym ownership and two groups were involved. These kind of things happens everywhere just that media likes to paint a picture they are asked for.

For those who like to discuss such matters here, Indians hasn't become intolerant they just recently tried to be little less appeasing to minorities (especially when a certain religion is not really minority).

Do not trust everything what you find in news and especially on FB.

Close to 9 million tourists visited India in 2016. So you cannot label whole country based on what you found on facebook or portrayed by media.

Bottom line is while travelling anywhere in the world understand the culture and things to watch out for when you get there e.g. catching trains late night in certain area in US you need to be careful, while walking in footscray parks at night is a stupidity and list goes on.

  • Damn. Just missed a booking and the economy promo has run out. Does anyone know if there is any chance of Malaysian Airlines adding more economy promo fares? Or is that it once the limited number of economy promo fares run out?
