    Seems like a decent system!

The Dell XPS 8920 for around the same price when on sale is a better deal. It even went down to $1450 not long ago.

      • when on sale

        Key factor.

        • Seems to come around quite frequently though.

        • +2

          @Circly:

It has only ever been that price just once.

        • @Lorindor:

Oops you're right. It usually gets down to around $1700 when on sale.

But then it has 16gb, better CPU and bigger ssd and Dell warranty.

This is a decent price though!

        • @Circly:

It usually gets down to around $1700 when on sale.

Yeah it's still great value, for even for that price.

    • Skimping on the RAM a bit, but otherwise a good deal

Had a custom PC built by these guys a few years ago and it is great, still using it. Customer service was excellent.
Had a part fail right at the end of warranty and they replaced it with a better one as the current one was out of stock and they didn't want me to wait as I live hours away and travel there is a pain.

  • +5

Decent deal. but the 2x4gb ram is the weakspot. Otherwise pretty well balanced.

    • +1

Weak spot, really? For a gaming system 8GB is generally fine and not going to see much difference jumping to 16GB. Although I do agree that personally I wouldn't go below 16GB, but that's just personal preference.

      • +6

yes weak spot compared to the rest of the system. not saying its inadequate. 2x4gb also a bummer for future ram upgrades

        • Why? Most board has 4 ram slots and you can easily put 2 more 4gb stick to be 16gb. 16gb is more than sufficient for gaming needs.

Personally my PC was 2x4gb when I got it 4 years ago and now added another 2x4gb and probably never the need to upgrade again.

        • +3

Great deal. They have the option of 2x8gb ram for an extra $85.

        • +1

@Letrico: If you're a performance junkie, you'll want your memory to match the CPU's optimal memory channel setup.

i.e. Some CPU's prefer 2 channel, so the CPU will perform faster with a 2x8 GB setup over a 4x4 GB setup

        • -1

What are you doing thats gonna take up more than 8gb, gaming and video editing at the same time….

        • True, hence why I personally go for 16. But not going to affect game performance for anyone making a purchase.

        • +1

@enceladus94: very true. 2 sticks vs 4 on dual channel = less pressure on IMC and could = higher OC/lower voltage too.

        • +1

@solidussnake: Depends what you play. PUBG uses 7GB alone in memory, not leaving much room for the rest of your OS and background apps.

        • +1

@solidussnake: I'm a chrome tab hoarder. click all links with the wheel button.

@enceladus94: Battlegrounds' Minimum system requirements 6GB RAM:
          http://support.enmasse.com/tera/can-i-run-battlegrounds-syst…

        • +1

@sam buster: Minimum doesn't mean optimal. PUBG on occasion goes beyond 10GB memory usage.
It'll technically run on less, just not very well.

        • +1

@enceladus94: Agreed, sorry, I was trying to support your post.

        • @solidussnake: I use virtual machines on a computer with 16GB, and 16GB can be too little when running VM's and playing games, web browsing (especially with Chrome) etc while the CPU and all the other parts can handle it without any issues. At the moment, firefox is using 8,912 MB of RAM, CrashPlan Service is using 733MB and along with the rest, a total of 14.5 GB is being used, and that's without me running any virtual machines.

        • @BradleyDS2: ok but other than you the majority wont be doing that. But hey each to their own. The only ram hungry i play is bf1 on ultra qhd. Takes Bout 6gb of ram. It sounds like pubg is terribly optimised lol

        • @solidussnake: I agree that not everyone uses the amount of ram I do, I'm definitely the outlier in statistics for ram usage, but Firefox itself was using over 8gb (admittedly I had a few hundred tabs open, researching parts and costs of parts for my new gaming pc) but personally, I still find it surprising for a gaming computer to only have 8GB of ram, since it restricts the users freedom.

As for PUBG, it absolutely is.. First game that doesn't run at a reasonable speed in 4k while using the lowest settings for me, my current computer may be getting a bit old, but it sure as heck isn't THAT old.

      • 8gb is not enough ram what the hell.
Even chrome ends up using like 5/6 gb sometimes.
8gb might be fine for gaming if you close down every single program youre using every time before you start gaming.

    • its the weak spot, but for the niche this system is trying to fill, it does the job.

  • Price is reasonable. Cheapest price without assembly and no windows I found is $1310.

    • +1

Add in shipping and for me personally it wouldn't be a good deal. Windows can be bought for cheap and building it is honestly a really fun task

      • me too. i like building. havnt built one in years! waiting for 3D gaming to take off and i will get back into it. researching/overclocking/sticking fans inside/admiring the shiny bits/sitting on the floor like a child

  • +1

if you double the ram and storage HD it comes to 1569 which is still quite good.

  • Comparable parts on PCPP is about $1560 but can do for around $1510 buy changing out some cheaper parts

missing the psu in those builds

    • Mouse is around $49

Price is absurd with air cooling, and doubly so if that not an unlocked core i5.

Learn to build your own PC and get a huge jump in the CPU/GPU/RAM combo for the same price.

    • Can you elaborate on this? Where do I buy parts to get a huge jump in the CPU/GPU/RAM combo for the same price?
      Genuinely interested.

  • can anyone recommend this ? im looking for a watercooled one http://www.budgetpc.com.au/computers-servers/budget-pc-custo…

  • budgetpc can you do a better deal on this? http://www.budgetpc.com.au/computers-servers/budget-pc-custo…

  • I'm in NSW, but when I go to checkout shipping is $$51.69 not $24.20 as stated.
