Cost of Top Soil Delivered?

Hi

I got some top soil delivered from a local construction site today because our allotment doesn't have very good soil at all (it's mainly sandstone/dried out dirt). Stupid us didn't get a quote before delivery and didn't really understand what the peeps were saying when we ordered it so we misunderstood how much the charge was.

Before I reveal the price, out of interest what is a reasonable per-truckload (bigish mac truck) cost for top soil in ozbargainland? We got more than 50 truckloads (a hell of a lot of soil for sure!!!).

Comments

  • really depends on quantity (commercial bulk load rates)

regular soil dudes for "small quantities" around bris charge:
    per square meter ~ $50
    by ton ~$50

I'm guessing, from your description and "more than 50 truck loads" that it will be hellishly expensive.

per square cubic meter ~ $50

    • they were big trucks with huge trailers so I assume each truck can carry more than 1 ton? I think they mentioned each truck could take 8-10 cubic metres? so $400 a truck is standard? hmm….

      • 1 ton is about 1 to 1.6 cubic meters, aka 1 cubic meter = 1 x 1 x 1 m.

Its normally about $50/cm + plus delivery for smaller loads.

  • We got more than 50 truckloads

    you mean 50 tippers?

    which one of these?

  • I got some top soil

i don't understand why you need so much top soil. ~720t is crazy.

    • We have a huge 10 acre property with really shit soil so we're basically covering it up and starting again.

      • +1

i see. did you check on gumtree? we got three tippers (about 30t) from a friend that installs nbn. they gave our neighbours 10t, another neighbour 40t and another 1/2t.

  • how much $$$????

  • +1

If it came from a construction site then I wouldn't expect to pay anything for it. Earth movers have to dump soil all the time and they get charged for it so you'd be doing them a favour by taking off their hands. I recently got about 10 tonnes for free.

I was going to say: they should have paid you. It would probably cost them to get rid of that load.

  • That is a lot of dirt!

  • Are you for real???? If you didn't check the price beforehand then you (well and truly) deserve what you were charged.

  • I would take a guess at 10 thousand

  • how much $$$????

  • Depends on how far away you are, delivery surcharge for distance.
Was it levelled for you or just heaped?

'Top soil' has different grades if you've ordered a soil with compost bill could be 50-100k

  • Click bait thread. Come on OP, what did you pay

    • $50 a truck

Is that expensive? Or bargain of the century? Its ALL rich brown topsoil…

      • $50 truck DELIVERED is a steal!

      • +1

You saved them from dumping their toxic land somewhere, maybe.

        • +1

that thought had crossed my mind as well……. was it really CLEAN fill

      • Is that just the (cost of delivery) or the (cost of the soil AND delivery) per truck?

  • $50 @ 60 trucks = $3000. that's fine. you've now got a shit ton of good soil and can have a decent lawn and a veg patch.

    • +1

      maybe good soil ;)

  • Out of interest, how are you going to spread the soil?

    • Out of interest, how are you going to spread the soil?

        Fox con worker from China

        • +2

if you only make them work 16 hours a day then they will happily do it

  • Guys from the site would be happy. Instead of having to pay to dump it they got paid for it. A win-win for everyone. Doesn't usually work out like this.
