Would Any People Be Interested in Group Buy Sites Where The Items Are Driven by Consumers Instead of The Seller?

Just wanting to see if there's a demand or a need or want for a group buy site that only does deals or group buys based on the consumers?

So items are posted by consumers and deals are made with suppliers of those items based on the number of people wanting a certain item?

This will be Roboguy all over again. Inexperienced people thinking business in China is as easy as ordering from AliExpress.

      • no idea what roboguy is but I'm not looking at overseas products. Products will be from local retailers. So pretty much the idea of buying it cheaper since we're buying in bulk.

Thanks but I'm more of looking into if there's actually people like me who are willing to join to do stuff like this. So potentially setting up a web to do it.

  • I'd be interested.
What did you have in mind?

    Panasonic batteries?
Lengths of fibre optic cables so people can DIY connect up their own NBN?
    Raspberry Pi's?
    SSDs?
    GPUs for Mining Computers?
    Xiaomi pens/homewares?
    Fidget Spinners?

        who is roboguy?

Something Roboguy would say.. please take a photo of your feet to prove you're not Roboguy.

        • Hmmm.. I'd rather not. Don't really want to feed any foot fetish creeps.

  • Hi,

There was a sort of Group Buy thing happening over at:
    http://www.dtvforum.info/forum/185-classifieds/
for a while, I don't know if it still happening.

I think the type of goods sought were initiated by the group and usually
when there was some new and breakthrough item that lots of people really wanted a deal was put forward.

Yes. That's what I see Ozbargains potential as long term, where consumers 'bid' on popular items, and then the site makes the offer to retailers

Exactly what I am looking at. There's too many sites providing redundant stuff which we don't need.

  • Membership.

    • I wouldn't want to pay for membership and I doubt others would.

      • Costco.

Isn't this what Massdrop is massdrop.com

Or have you just taken their idea and pasted here !!

    • Interesting. did not look for anything outside of Australia. But yeah I suppose its the same idea but obviously they have it a lot better where I was thinking more of a forum like dtv but not that basic.

      • Masdrop ships to Australia and they are now big….

I was looking at this idea with few of my friends(I am a software developer), the only problem we saw is in Australia quantity wont be that big and plus you need some super cool marketing / account managers.

Best of luck if you proceed with it

  • Hi Roboguy.

  • Buy my things is a group buy website.

  • Yes, computer parts and surfing gear would be my preference. In saying that the power comes with a large quantity which is difficult in OZB as we have so many different products that we are chasing.

  • I will be interested - depending on what the group is after
How do you propose the group gets together ?
Suppose, I am after a Bose QC 35.
How will I find out how many in the group are after it ?
Who will take the ownership on striking a deal with Bose or shopmonk or whoever.
I still wonder how you will get people in the group to commit to buying and then commit to the number of orders to the supplier ? Then there will be some who will want to be unidentifiable buyers.
.. or have I got it all wrong ?
