Looking for Extension to LastPass Premium [SOLVED]

So my LastPass premium account is expiring soon and looking to extend it. $12/yrs isn't exactly going to break the bank, but this is OzBargain where our motto (should) be "Never pay RRP!".

I've hunted around and can't seem to find any deals, but know the OzB community is awesome for finding them!

If it gets to the expiration date, then I'll just renew, but everyone loves an OzBargain!

Thanks.

EDIT: It seems my knowledge was about 2yrs outdated, it's not $24/yr but more importantly multi-device sync is part of the free plan. I might just let it expire and see how I go.

Thanks for everyone's constructive feedback.

  • Which Premium feature do you use?
I'm still on the free plan and loving it. Haven't found a compelling need to upgrade yet.

    • Premium allows sync between mobile + PC. I use LastPass everywhere: phone, tablet, work PC, home PC. That's the sole reason for Premium.

  • Was on humble bundle twice now that I know of. I missed the last one. Maybe keep an eye out

    • Yeah, I've done that a few times, but haven't seen one for a while. One of them was for new account only. I'm guessing it won't come up again before I need to renew.

      • I know there was one about 6 weeks ago at a guess. I missed out

        • Ahhh crap, you're right! There was a The Humble Lifehacker Software Bundle. Totally missed that otherwise I would have snapped it up!

If you like the service pay the $12 pa.

    • Yeah, thanks for that. I'm pretty I already said that in the OP and I will if the time comes, but this is OzB!

  • It's $24 a year now. I think USD.

    • You're right! $2/month. Didn't even look at the new pricing.

OK, yours and Aussie89 comment above, I don't think I need Premium anyway.

    Check out Enpass.

I currently use 1password (I paid for a license long before they introduced subscription) so wont switch - but I have tried it an it looks really good!

    • Ohhh I do much prefer self-hosted content! I'll check it out, thanks!

Hopefully they have a LastPass import feature.

      • Lastpass has a feature where you can export it to a notepad list
I'm assuming enpass allows you to upload the notepad file
I'm not that it savvy but i did it for chrome and lastpass

        • Yeah, I regularly backup my LastPass to an offline KeePass DB, just in case LP disappears!

And it turns out Enpass has a LastPass import feature. I'm going to give it a go.

        • @downforce:

Enpass costs $14/platform to sync more than 20 logins.

        • @ozhunter: I literally just discovered this, a few more than my 576 that I currently have. Although I guess it's a lifetime fee opposed to LP being annually.

          Further investigation required.

  • With LastPass also remember that from 1 July you now have to pay GST, so my recent $12 renewal was 10% more - with the exchange rate it cost me $A17 - so I assume it would now be about $A34.

Another alternative to consider is LogMeOnce - it was given a good write-up on a couple of tech sites doing "free" comparisons. You can use Google Authenticator for 2-factor login.

Just switched to Enpass my self. I've had LastPass for many years now. However, storing passwords in the LastPass cloud was bothering me for a long time, and their fee increase was a final blow.

It turns out, my past self had saved the Enpass free license when they had a promotion and was posted here last year because I didn't wanted to miss out on that bargain :P

    • What method do you choose to sync to mobile?

      • I'm still evaluating options. Currently using my own file server.
Tempted to use google drive, but still researching. Provided the password to login to the google drive and the master password to decrypt the file are different, I think it'll be much safer than LastPass cloud.

I've been in the same boat, however I "trust" Google Drive far more than any other cloud provider. If someone gets into my Google account, they pretty much own me anyway.

  • Looks like LastPass has only doubled the price a few days ago. Together with acquisition from LogMeIn — I am now seriously considering switching to a different password manager, after being on LastPass premium for 8 years.

    • What are you using these days Scotty?

      • Still have LastPass (as I've paid until next year) and while on my computer, Pass that sync with git.

        • What are you using now? Still LastPass?

          • @idonteven: Would also like to know.

          • @idonteven: Yeah still LastPass. While they have increased pricing for subscribers, the free version now is now less crippled which is what I use.
