  • Geuine question, are these things really loud to run? Have they improved on noise reduction since the old days?

    • apparently this cooler is pretty quiet

    • I have the FTW version on stock and no [they are not loud to run].

    • I have this card and it is quiet.

    • My evga 1070 doesn't even need to use its fans, so yes.

      • Then you aren't pushing it hard enough!

  • +1

Are these going to come down much more?

    • +3

we find out when amd launches their shit in 2 days.
      which depends on their pricing

      • tbh vega isn't really shaping up to be competitive. hopefully i'm wrong tho

        • you propery right mate ;)

        • +2

From what I understand the Vega 56 will better than a 1070 but not as good as a 1080 and be priced accordingly. But we will see

      • So I should wait for a better deal?

        • +1

I would. AMD are shaking up the market and if nothing else people will be selling older cards for cheap to upgrade to AMDs latest.

  • Good price! Shame my 1080 finally arrived from Kogan haha

  • Does this one has RGB?

    • +8

      Neg for asking RGB…

    • +1

You will want the FTW version.

      • Thanks~ I don't have any RGB in my PC, so really want something that can light up.

        • +1

I see. Just make sure your PC case has clear side window panel. No point having RGB video card if you cannot see the inside.

  • Does this come with Destiny 2

    • Ask amazon support, when I bought a 1070 they said yes it came with the game, in the end it didn't (was only amazon.ca) and I got a refund on my graphics card

    • +1

with no TV to play it on

      • Let alone a 4k one even though the pro cant even handle native 4k

    • +1

… and your point being? Are you trying to stir sh1t up?

  • this is now down to 499

  • Resisting the gigabyte offer was hard and this is going to be even harder.

    • Do you expect the prices to go down further?

      • Theres no harm in waiting for vega launch, worst case senario prices stay the same

      • There is always a chance it can drop to that $600 range and if not then I will just wait for it to come around again. Unfortunately I doubt the $500+ price will appear again for at least another year or so, that's one I wont wait for.

  • mannnnn, im so tempted!

  • So… should the Vega be more or less powerful than the 1080 for the 1080 prices to theoretically go down?

    • +1

Not really Nvidia might lower its price to draw sales away from the vega especially if it performs better.

    • +1

the 1080 will go down if vega offers comparable performance to the 1080 at a lower cost

  • Should I buy this now or wait for next gen NVIDIA Volta cards?

    • +3

You'll be waiting a while but if youre not gaming past 1080p then id stick with a 1070 or lower

      • How much does a 1070 cost approximately nowadays? I will be gaming at 2560x1080 with my ultrawide monitor btw.

        • they're still pretty expensive rightnow cause of the shortage. I just sold my one second hand for $500 but new ones would cost $650 so youre better off going with this deal. Unless of course you dont mind waiting out the shortage then you can probly get one around the $500 mark

        • +1

I ordered a 1070 from newegg for roughly $580 including shipping.

        • If your UW monitor has freesync, AMD might be the better choice.

    • +1

There will always be better technology around the corner. Instead of waiting you could be enjoying the card now.

    • Heh, MuffinLion and GossipGoat

  • Hmm im pondering. I need (more like want) a new graphics card and monitor. Freesync monitors seem to be a few hundred dollars cheaper than Gsync. I wonder whether for me getting vega will be better as if they are more expensive i will save money on a freesync monitor

    • Ok jack.

    • No unless you intend to sli amd cards. They are too weak on their own except on high res.

      • +3

        SLI AMD

        I think you mean crossfire

    • +1

Umm if you don't mind waiting a few days, I would definitely wait for vega and get a free sync monitor, you would probably save $200-300.

      • +1

Thanks, thats the kind of answer i was looking for

        • +1

Some people were probably confused because there was no question mark in your initial comment.

  • What's the GST/customs threshold for importing stuff into Australia ? We get pinged for anything over 400nzd

    • 1000 aud

      • So I didn't actually need to put "gift" on all my under 1000 dollar orders to fool customs?

  • Has this deal expired already? It's showing up at $596.72 US without postage.

    • Yeah its out of stock

  • -5

    For $650, you can get a 1070 though :)

  • +1

Literally just bought at EVGA 1080 for $720 yesterday. Was going to get a Gigabyte 1080 for about $670 but EVGA have a global warranty, gigabyte don't.

  • Would these be ok in the Dell XPS 8920 computers that everyone bought recently? I imagine you could sell a 1070 for at least $500.

    • I sold my 1070 for $500. I would suggest you check the dimensions as some of the 1080 cards are fairly bigger than 1070s

      • nice. how long ago? gumtree or ebay?

I thought they would be the same size… also it would depend how much power the 1080 uses and what temps it runs at.

        More research is needed!

edit* they have the exact same dimensions and recommended power supply.. interesting.

        • +1

Sold it this morning actually on gumtree haha. Depends on the model too, stuff like the asus strix are massive

  • still appeared my my cart as 499 so panicked and bought, thanks OP.

Hope they dont get cheaper with the release of the VEGA cards.

    • Dw, I'll be sure to wear my best rape face when they do when I buy one for Destiny 2.

  • FYI 499 is the launch RRP for this - so if you can wait it should come down with new AMD releases and when supply improves.
May be a few months though

    • If you wait 10 years it should be worth about $5

      • This is quite obvious no? AMD tech is releasing in a matter of days so this could be pertinent information for someone not in a rush.

        • Also the new AMD stuff is supposedly really good for mining, so hopefully that will also mean the Nvidia card prices/demand will go down.

        • But hopefully it does drop to a satisfactory price within the next few months
