    WHYYYYYYYYYY ?

    • Because, LG!

    • +2

      bored LOL

I had one of these and until it bootlooped i thought it was a great phone

  • I saw this while looking at the iPhone 6 Plus. It was surprising that I purchased the same phone for double the price last year.

Just waiting for the day of bootloop, so I can purchase a new phone.

  • +2

I was going to post this too, the LG G3 is $299 for your interest!

  • +1

If it wasn't for the fear of boot loops, I'd say best phone for under $200.

  • +2

Loved the size, loved the slim lines, even loved the volume in the middle of the back…
boot looped in the 11th month, repaired under warranty and daughter has used it for 13 months more…still going strong.

  • +1

So $179 to use it 1 year.

    • +2

not bad i recon for a high spec phone

  • I quite enjoyed this phone. I've used it for 1.5 year and decided to store it as a spare phone before bootloop comes and kills it. FYI, i've upgraded to a V20.

    • Hows V20? So V20 not prone to bootloop?

      • +2

Not sure if the V20 is plagued by bootloop or not. To be honest, i just don't care as i like the LG's phone in general and their price doesn't really hurt the pocket too much. But yeah, V20 is a step up in terms of sheer size and features. But i am enjoying the gorgeous display and the built in DAC to drive my good headphones.

        • Oh thats good to hear. Where did you get yours from

        • @abcd: I bought it from dwi back then for 435. You can get it now for under 400 now…amazing value for money. You probably see that sort of price when the V30 is release into the market.

        • @Volution: geez, I paid over $1000 for my sons v20 late last year when it first came out.
$400 is a bargain for this great phone. My son is keen on the v30 now though.

  • actually quite a good deal if this is a newer model G4, less likely to bootloop

  • I were reading somewhere that later lots of G4 didn't have bootloop issue. Sorry do not have the link handy. I did get my phone repaired as well after I think 14-15 months due to that issue. Luckily it was AUS stock which comes with 2 years warranty.

    • May have to ask them the manufacturer date.

    • I think those guys regretfully found out they still bootloop… just a little longer…

  • +2

I loved this phone until it bootlooped. It has (or I should say HAD) the best phone camera ever!!!

  • Paid $450 September 2015 bootlooped 6 months later now fixed. Good price though :)

  • +3

ok, so we know this has bootloop, but lets talk about how to fix it. will any grey importers will be happily repair if bootloops comes under the warranty?
what if after. just throw away no way to fix?

  • +2

Do not buy this phone. Mine bootlooped just outside of warranty. Great phone while it lasted.

  • Anyone bought from these people before? Loads of horrible stories from their past customers online. One person indicated he received an empty box.

    • From their past eBay deal seems OK.

  • Wouldn't this be even cheaper at $167.20 shipped at their ebay store using the current PTECH20 code? Although it specifies it's the H818N model which, you guessed it, has no Band 28. I had the H815T model which I loved until it bootlooped but thankfully qd_au repaired it at no charge. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LG-G4-Dual-LTE-LGH818N-32gb-White…

    • The listing on eBay has incorrect photos. Their own Web site was up and down. Also, dual SIM with Qualcomm 808 CPU isn't useful in Australia now, since Telstra already switched off 2G network and Optus will soon be doing that too.

      • Everyone else still has a 2g network, so it still useful for most people

      • any idea which model is this on ShopMonk website?
Looked up single sim models, 815 and 815T has B28, while 815P and 811 do not.
        Thank you in advance.

  • Hmmm, renting out a G4 for 12 months for $179. Not sure if bargain or not.

  • +3

Negging this deal because the LG G4 has a known manfucturing issue (bootloop) that turns a relatively high proportion of phones into a brick with no warning. Lg custoner service is also terrible and takes 6-8 weeks to fix the phone (my experience) This is not a deal - you are paying for a defect.

    • LG only took 3 days for me - shipped from VIC to NSW and back too!

      • This is not AU stock version. LG Australia will refuse to do any warranty on these.

    • Good assumption. LG could have/should have handled it much differently. Great phone, wish I still had it. Sadly, 10 months only is all I got from it. Won't go to another LG after that….

  • +3

I HAD 3 of these in the family, bought from 2 different suppliers.
Every one of them bootlooped. Every one.
Mine lasted 12.5 months, my wife's lasted 14 months, and my daughter's 6 months.

It's cheap, but risky. Other than that it was a great phone, dammit.

  • +2

    Mah bootloopin baby's drivin'me crrrazy

  • +2

Don't have one, will not be getting one.
Just came in here to see if anyone whindges about the boot loop thing over and over

  • Is this a ROM issue? Surely there are some custom firmware at xda that overcome this?

    • +1

A quick read and it looks like it's more of a hardware issue. No thanks

    • Hardware issue. Not fixable. LG should've just recalled these.

  • Adreno 418 Snapdragon 808 (MSM8992) 20nm 600 MHz 172.8

  • +2

Got my wife one 16 months ago and paid almost double that, a lot of phone for the price. Don't know if I should be saying this but still going strong and gets a lot of use.

    • +1

Almost time to have bootloop it will not happen slowly.

      • Yep, I haven't told her it's likely to happen, just blissfully pretending it won't happen to us, by the sounds of things we are already doing reasonably well, I think hers might have been one of the later ones that are slightly better.

        • +3

Just make sure all her photos etc are being backed up constantly or you'll be in big trouble 😀

        • @PVA: Photo's I am pretty sure about, but not sure about videos, should probably check that.

        • +2

@tryagain: not sure what you use, but I have put Sweet Home on my wife's and sons phones after my wife's phone failed nad all was lost ( of course my fault and I'll never live it down 😀)
The software is set that when the phone is home on wifi and plugged in power it uploads photos and videos to our hard drive plugged in the modem/router all wirelessly and no involvement needed.
          https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=sweesoft.sweet…

        • +1

@PVA: Just checked google photo's and there are videos there as well so looks all good.

        • @tryagain: yep have that too,
Wife's phone has that plus photos vids are saved to microsd if phone fails plus auto backup to hard drive at home. 3 backups, I won't be in the dog house again 😀

    • I bought my g4 back in March 2016 and I'm terrified with all these bootloop issues everyone is talking about. I've gone through three batteries since though. Im on a 8500mah battery that last me more than a day even with a few hours of video playback. I'm trying to scout a decent replacement but can't go back to 3000ish mAh battery phone, unless I use a battery pack case.

I hated the g4 when I first got it as I transition from iOS which had decent battery life compared to the stock g4. My pet hate on this phone is the stock android auto brightness on display it's terrible compared to the iPhone. I've reset the phone to factory a few times and takes me back to the snappy state when I first got the phone. Now that I occasionally restore the phone and have decent battery life I love this phone over an iOS device. I love I can use otg, microSD.

My other disappointment with the grey tiawan import is not having an unlock boot loader.

      .

    • +2

There may be a bit of life in your wife's phone yet. I just checked my emails for when I purchased my G4 and it was two years and two days ago from today from qd on ebay. NO boot loop and it has been dropped multiple times. I'm thinking of buying another!

      • +2

yeah, like most things, you hear from all the people who have issues but seldom from anyone who hasn't, it makes it hard to know how widespread the issue actually is. I normally expect about 2 yrs out of a phone so it's edging closer to what I'd expect. If I was buying a phone for one of my kids (not that they are old enough yet) I'd be jumping on this. My next phone will likely be a moto g as I want a fingerprint scanner on my next phone.

  • +3

Wicked deal I say. Had mine for ages and was great. I had the 815. Wondering if this 818 will be any good for the Telstra 4g network? Doesn't have 700mhz on 4g for this model so dobby worries only about that. For a tiny $179 I say stuff the boot loop! Most Muppets drop theirs and smash it before a year is up haha

    • Description says band 28, 700 so is good for what you ask.

      • See that's what I though but read a few words before That, it says h815 lte. Meaning the 815 has it, but pretty sure this is a listing for a 818 . . :(

        • I see what you mean, actually lists just about all models but doesn't say clearly what one is for sale.

        • +1

          @PVA: yeah that's my concern :/

    • +1

Definalty beats cheap budget android phones

      • +1

        Couldn't agree more!

    • Doesn't have 700mhz on 4g for this model so dobby worries only about that.

You have a house elf serving your family?

      • Hey has an alternative oddball girl that used to date David Mitchell's character in Peep Show

        • That's the only real way to know if this phone is any good, she's an IT chick after all

      • Wait @brotherrfranciz you don't? Who works in the kitchen then?

  • Hey OP, think it works out even cheaper through their eBay listing with the code http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/LG-G4-Dual-LTE-LGH818N-32gb-White…

    • See netsurfers comment above.

  • Mine just bootlooped yesterday, thinking of getting this or waiting for Moto G5 Plus deal? No compass on G5 Plus is holding me back.

    • +4

Why on earth would you get another one?

  • +1

Loved this phone until 11 months in and it bootlooped, losing me months of photos and videos of my infant kid.

Don't bother. Get something like the Huawei P9 instead.

  • mine just bootlooped 18mth in..buyer beware…

    mixo

  • New battery fixed my bootloop issues. I had two G3's that started bootlooping about 18 months after new. New battery = fixed.

    • +1

How's that possible? The bootloop issue is inherent in hardware

      • +1

If battery fixed, yours was not a bootloop issue.

        • What are the symptoms of the bootloop issue?

        • @tap: It doesn't boot up, it just forever sits on the LG startup logo. It's due to bad BGA solder on the CPU losing contact in some points, only a reflow can fix it. Although people have had luck with using a hairdryer and propping a folded piece of paper against the CPU to push it against the motherboard and the softened solder will grab. That method only worked for me for about an hour or so.

        • @zachwright95: Then what's it called when I had the exact same issue.. except I solved it with a new battery with better contacts? Is this still not called a bootloop issue? A lot of people fixed thier bootlooping G3's this way.

        • +2

@tap: I guess G3 bootloop and G4 bootloop are different issues? I have not read of anyone solving their G4 bootloop issue with a new battery, and this thread has a LOT of G4 bootloops in it:

  • Purchased through eBay on 14th, sent on 15th, received today on 17th. Very fast delivery.
Item was described as brand new but was USED. Requested for return.
I recommend everyone who bought this take a video when opening your parcel.
Also back cover did not match photo (leather), was plastic, which would have been fine if the item was brand new.
    Battery was missing as well.

    • Wow not a good look for shopmonk

Thanks for letting us know, will steer clear of them from now on

    • Update: Shopmonk apologized for mistake and offered a replacement new unit, and $50 PayPal refund. They sent me a return label soon after. Not sure if this was a genuine mistake as I haven't seen them selling 2ndhand G4s but their customer service is quick and I am satisfied.

  • Anyone received order updates since confirmation?

  • +1

Just a comment about this phone. Was undecided too long and the deal expired. Went on Ebay and found a number sellers with similar price. Bought one for $162 on 18/8 from a store in HK, received mine today (model H810), new with plastic wrapping. Apparently from the S/N, mine may have been manufactured in April 2016, so hopefully may not bootloop for awhile.

    • +1

Good luck. I loved mine before it bootlooped. Would still be using now. Instead I have a nexus 6p witch isn't as good imo

      • +2

Yes, couldn't resist the price. It's for my wife who is currently running a Redmi Note 3 Pro (Kate) and complains about the poor camera in low light. She takes a lot of photos of our children.

Been researching for fun this afternoon about the fixes for bootloop and came across this from XDA -

Ok, so every method of repair is not permanent fix. But why? It seems like the fault lies in the defective solder used on ram chip overlying SD 808 (since SD808 and 3GB ram chip has been used in other phones and proved to be reliable). But even defective solder should not melt/deform if cpu temperature is less than 50-60 deg C. More likely, it's due to thermal cycling which causes solder to crack. So possibly there some problem with cooling in LG G4 under normal operating condition. (For example, there is a piece of "gold" paper covering the ram chip which is poor thermal conductor). In any case it might be that if thermal cooling was sufficiently enhanced on the SD808/ramchip (for example, ripping out that gold paper and using high quality thermal compound with copper shim) that bootloop should not occur/recur at all after the repair is done. So the bottomline is that LG G4 has inherent cooling defect (along with defective solder), and most of these bootloop repair attempts do nothing to enhance thermal cooling on the ram/soc, so it doesn't really fix the bootloop issue.
already beat you to it i did a thermal coumpound mod on mine back a year and a half ago when i got mine and so far no bootloop also as precation i use kernel toolkit and after boot it completly disables my big cores so the only time they are used is during boot

my g4 has been droopped replaced the screen 3 times sold 4 times and returned as buyers loved so much they upgraded and i avidly use my g4 for gear vr headset runs great on 4 cores

so i will second this theory and have for a while

only problem is waranty was voided so ill have to replace the mb myself and they go for about 175 or more which the g4 isnt worth that to me any more i use my note5 with a complete note 7 port as a daily driver and my g4 is for gaming remote desktop, vr and all the other stuff "

        • will open it up, put some thermal paste on the CPU before handling it to my other half. I always run a SD card for photos and videos anyway so if it does bootloop, the only data missing will be SMS and Whatsapp data if it can't be restarted.

If it fails I might as well buy her a top end phone with a decent camera - it's not that I can't afford it, just the OZB in me :-)))

    • Yeah should last until at least April 2017 before it boot loops.
