Google Pixel 8 Pro 128GB $687 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

Links

Officeworks still has this listed for $1687, however the above colours are In Store Only with limited stock. You can attempt a price beat if you find stock near you.

This is not ATL. The ATL was $499. This is not the best value option at this price range this year, that was the $697 Pixel 9 Pro XL 256 GB which unfortunately expired two hours ago. If you prefer a large Pixel, I recommend waiting on a price drop for it again. If size isn't relevant, there are better deals on various smaller Pixels. Nonetheless this may be an option for some people so I felt it should be put out there alongside a up to date comparison:

Great phone, got mine for $499 during the Telstra deal. Best Android I've owned. iPhone quality and feel, but with Android OS.

  • +8

If you prefer a large Pixel, I recommend waiting on a price drop for it again.

FYI, the $697 P9P XL was a pricing error and is unlikely to drop down to that price again.

Next year. You never know that this could be a marketing taxic, used by Amazon all the time.

I still can't unsee this though…FOMO is real

    A discerning and helpful post.

Nice list at a glance for comparisons.

I can feel Pixel phones got hit hard by other Chinese Android phones. iPhones are not that bad due to different ecosystems.

    • +5

      It's the other way around.

Chinese phones are getting hit hard by Pixels and are losing marketshare rapidly. Google makes their money from new model launches and then rapidly reduce their margins on other older models to clear inventory. Google makes majority of their money from ads, cloud computing and software, so they can keep reducing prices to gain marketshare. Pixels are already the top 5 best-selling premium smartphones globally and are the fastest growing phone brand.

      • You got a source? Pixel only got 3% in US and 5% globally in Q2 2025 based on my quick reading from this https://www.accio.com/business/pixel-phone-market-share-2025…

I know Google has invested a lot on Tensor and made lots of improving. But marketing wise and fan wise, there are more rooms to fill.

          Your source:

          Global Premium Smartphone Growth

Google Pixel emerged as the fastest-growing premium smartphone brand in the first half of 2025, with 105% year-over-year (YoY) growth in shipments. This surge was driven by:

          • Strong performance of the Pixel 9 series
          • Expansion into new markets (e.g., Europe and Asia)
          • Aggressive marketing emphasizing AI-first features and software differentiation

          Comparative Market Share (H1 2025)

          Brand Market Share YoY Growth
          Apple 62% +3%
          Samsung 20% +8%
          Huawei 8% +24%
          Xiaomi 5% +55%
          Google Pixel 5% +105%

As per your source, they are top 5 (joint #4) best selling premium smartphone. Not sure why you want me to provide another link to prove the same point.

          • @dealhunter52: This should be your source. It uses the term "premium", so kinda unclear of which ranges put into comparison.
            https://www.phonearena.com/news/google-top-five-premium-smar…

The sales of Pixel phones in US have been similar to TCL phones.
            https://omdia.tech.informa.com/pr/2025/jul/us-smartphone-mar…

Globally, there are Oppo and Vivo above Pixel.
            https://gs.statcounter.com/vendor-market-share/mobile

When Google sells their "premium" phones for budget phone prices like this, should they count as well?

            • @bcYield: Agree, No Way Xiaomi is just 5% They sell shit loads of them in the mid end. Especially in Asian countries.

            • @bcYield: I clearly said 'premium' phones. Even entry level Pixel 'a series' (Pixel 8a, 9a etc) starts from $849.

On the other hand, large volume of TCL, Oppo and Vivo sales come from cheap low tier entry level phones in south-east Asia, Africa and South America.

              • @dealhunter52: Okay. But we also all know that Google flash sales their phones a lot. Price wise I doubt they matter. We have had Pixel A series for as low as under $400 and Pro series for as low as under $700 and in large volume. Anyway I agree Pixel has improved a lot in both performance and sale. Though it is still far away from the 2 giants.

                • @bcYield: If you buy a BMW for the price of a Hyundai, is it still a luxury car?

I agree Google Pixels will keep lagging behind 2 giants because they have other focus areas while mobile phones are big revenue stream for Apple and Samsung and therefore spend more on R&D. Google will focus on software, apps and cloud storage. Probably the reason they keep releasing 128GB models, so you buy more cloud storage from them.

                  • @dealhunter52: It's cheating to be fair. Since Google has backdoors to all other Android phones, they should have enough knowledge to make the best. Huawei started to own their own system and slowly the rest of Chinese phones will follow. By then iPhone and Android will lose lots of market shares. Later will happen to India as well as EU. Wait I can't believe that EU still hasn't owned an operating system. How behind they are.

                    • +1

@bcYield: Yep, EU is way behind. Their innovation went downhill from early 2000's. Symbian OS from Nokia was their high point.

EU and US economy were same size until 2008 but today US economy is more than 50% bigger than EU. They lag even China in innovation and tech.

    • I think mid range phones with good sized batteries have ruined me. Seems like flagship batteries are where they skimp. It really sucks.

  • Is it worth holding out for 10 pro 512gb deals? Or have they already past?

I am using a 6 pro since 4 years it's been fantastic. But getting bit hot now on usage above and hour and 128gb almost run up so looking to upgrade to 512 gb

  • Nice post OP,

Any thoughts on Pixel8Pro vs Pixel 9 (Non-Pro), any reason to prefer one over the other?

    • Flagship vs entry, maybe size is the main factor if you choose 9

    • Other than the size difference, P8P has a telephoto zoom lens, so more flagship camera set up.

    • +2

Do you like a hot phone? I have this and its warm to hot whenever I use it for more than a few minutes.

    • I think they finally changed the modem from P9 onwards (maybe not the 9a actually). The one used previously, since the P6, lead to connectivity issues for some, which probably also contributed to battery usage. Read someone say the Google Tensor can only use Samsung modems, instead of Qualcomm or MediaTek. Either way, it's at least an upgraded Exynos modem in the P9 and P9 Pro etc.

  • Seems like the 1tb options aren't popping up in any sales? Anyone seen any?

  • +1

Nothing against the Op who posted the deal - solid post.

But these deals from JB are complete ass.

  • +3

    Thanks OP, great post!

My story: I was able to order 2 Pixel 9 Pro XL 256 for $697 each but then got transaction authentication ("error") so orders got cancelled, then JB jacked up the price to $1047, not cool! However, after 2 hours on support chat, I have been provided with "negotiated price" link and got approved both phones for $697 each, paid, approved.

  • you're a legend! and I love those legends :)

  • My Pixel 7 Pro battery had swollen yesterday and popped up the screen after 2.5 years of use :(
I have contacted Google Support and waiting for their reply

    • Did you buy one from local shops? If you did, probably best go back to them? If you bought from JBs, they are pretty good with handling this warranty issues.

  • +1

i'm pretty surprised to see there are still so many pixel 7 and 8s floating around (from the ozb posts recently). can't imagine they're still in production?

    • Just old stock.

      • +1

man, google was ridiculously over-optimistic about their sales estimates.

  • How does this compare to iPhone 17 base mode camera wise?

    • +2

iPhone 17's main camera is a 2025 flagship-level. These will be pretty good, but still flagship-level from 2~3 years ago.

      • Apple can't hold anymore as they lost lots of market shares this year in China. They put lots on the 17 gen making it much better value for money than previous gens.

  • Very strange ordering experience with the Pixel 7 from Telstra Store. Multiple failed attempts ordering from laptop, order from my mobile and it went through straightaway. Same details, card, etc….
