First post after years of stalking yay!, this laptop was what I needed and thought it was a good deal to share. Forgive me for the poor formatting. Some quick research before I purchased showed that similar Lenovo Y700 units around this price point were refurbished units, or units from USA. Reviews tend to show it is ok value for money, but does tend to heat up a fair bit and is heavy. Most likely suitable for light gaming/ used for media and home use where laptop does not need to be carried around.

  • Title needs correction, its @JW Computers, not @Lenovo mate.

Straight up, can this play PUBG?

    • +2

Yes I have an asus laptop and can play pubg with it, it chugs in certain area's due to poor optimization though (Games fault however, not laptops)

  • wouldnt you be better off waiting for another 1050 deal for slightly more?

    • Possibly. I didn't think there wasuch of a performance difference between the 960 and 1050 (no subject matter expert) and most 1050 units are $1k+. Only gaming I will be doing is HOTS and Dota.

I'm not a big fan of splurging on laptops especially if a lower end laptop does the job. But I could be totally misinformed.

as a current laptop gamer i suggest you spend 20% more or so and get something that will give you much more value

    • 1050 for way more than $829 not slightly more for a good few months maybe more than half a year
Buy it now and sell it later when 1050 laptops come down in price

      • they were $1000 previously on here. -TRS and you get pretty close to this price.

        • with HQ processor, FHD screen and 4GB VRAM?

        • +3

@ozdesi: to add on to what you mentioned. I've only seen the 1GB/2GB VRAM 1050s for around that price. The 960 seems to be more comparable with the 4GB 1050Tis

        • @Boorgoonhoontoor: This laptop has GDDR5 too which is not too bad

        • @ozdesi: problem is that it doesn't come with SSD. Has a slot for it thankfully.

        • +1

@Boorgoonhoontoor: better than buying 250gb factory installed SSD and selling it later to upgrade to 500gb

        • +3

          @Boorgoonhoontoor:
It's a 960M, it's weaker than 750Ti, which in turn is weaker than 950, which is weaker than 1050. No idea why you think 960M is comparable to 1050 Ti, far from it. VRAM is not an indication of performance.

The only Maxwell non-M GPU on laptop is GTX 980, despite there is a GTX 980M (which is a lot weaker) as well.

        • @Bigboomboom: you're right, I was comparing desktop versions. 1050 is significantly faster on laptops

  • This be good for exporting stuff in Premiere Pro i bet :)

    • Try now. Link looked the same

Can this play Dota on full details ?

    • +1

This is an amazing deal. I don't know why so much hatorade. Should be able to play all of today's games easily and can also play Dota 2 easily on near max settings.

  • Good post OP. Great price/performance, if you can't afford something more recent or lighter.

  • Excellent first time post op :D

  • Too many haters .and Chardonnay swillers ….if you can't link to a better deal you aren't adding much …..good laptop for the price.

  • very good price! ^-^

  • How will this go playing overwatch and PUBG? Thanks.

    Ideally reach a consistent 30FPS…

    • +1

I play pubg on this laptop on low and it gets up to 80fps, suprisingly good

  • Sold out, no idea how to add the tag

    • Seems good. Depends on what games you play and the settings. This laptop is for less graphic intensive games. If you are willing to pay 300 extra for a laptop go with the lenovo 570p, Dell https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/324359 or your acer
