So those 6x $1 payments are just test payments done by the bank to ensure the card is valid. They appear pending but will disappear in a few business days. With that promo deal what happens is that you are charged the $34.95 and then refunded the balance back onto that card….

This the reply from webchat agent…

    • What happens if you only have $2 in your bank account?

  • +1

There is no error on with my payment but they charge 2 x $1 instead of $2.

SO it is $2 or $1?

    • you might want to go through the comments and you will find the answer.

      • I have already found my answer yesterday, answer is not available by the time I posted my comment.

        cheers

        • $1 for security check (refundable in less than 10 working days) $1 for the sim.

  • Any Cahsback,TA! ;-)

This is what the webchat rep had to say.

If you want you can give us a call on 13 56 86 and we can process that for you.

    • Same as I received.

  • "there was an error with your payment". Still charged $1 for both times I tried :(

  • +1

Payment error. And got charged twice on my bank account :(

    • +1

Same. Might not go through with it seeing as how they would charge $35 and then refund it later.

      • Just had a webchat session with them and the answer was: "So those $1 payments are just test payments done by the bank to ensure the card is valid. It's a copy and paste support :)

        • If I had a similar situation at work, where I had to type the same thing over and over, I'd copy pasta too. Heck, I'd probably script it.

I hope the data speeds on this are better than Kogan (Vodafone). I have been trying their service on the $4.99 offer (for 14GB) and to be honest even at 3am in the morning in Pymble NSW and only maybe 400 metres from the Tower I struggle to get great speeds. Sure I get about 17 MB/Sec but for a 4G super duper service I would expect better. Also the ping/lag is terrible. I hope OVO is up with the Optus speeds and if so I will consider a 365 day plan , as I was with Telstra before but they 'lost' my number when I ported in which I had been using since 1999 so wont be heading back to them any time soon.

    • +1

I think you meant 17 Mb/s. I don't see much higher than that with Ovo or Amaysim.

      • The other day i managed to get about 30 Mb/s on Optus 4G. This is through a Sony Xperia XA Ultra phone.

        • Yeah I heard the max download is 44 Mb/s, max upload is 22 MB/s. But I don't think the DL speed is consistent.

Still much faster than my ADSL connection.

  • +1

Just a warning. Optus carrier to Optus carrier porting can take more than 3 working days. And don't expect Ovo or any other Australian Optus reseller to keep you posted if something goes wrong (I'd love to be proven wrong one day). Keep in mind that if only 1% of 5000 people have porting problems that's 50 people tying up their tiny porting team, many at the same time (i.e end of the month).

    • Have you experienced any porting problems with releasing or accepting?

      • +1

        Yeah both.

When I cancelled a port that took too long the next port wouldn't work automatically. When I left Ovo it took them 5 days (3 working days). The only solution would be to pay for another month even though you only need a day or two thanks to their slowness.

        • This is terrible, do you have any advice for future porting? I read OVO have an internal system error. Should your complaint be taken up with the TIO?

        • @lovepeoplenotmoney: Unfortunately I was over-confident so I never bothered with the workaround recommended to me i.e. to port to a company that's not Optus or an Optus-reseller first. It's good to accumulate those free Telstra and Kogan SIMs when available, for this purpose. It seems counter-intuitive to do 2 ports instead of 1 but mobile companies openly admit this issue,
including Ovo (http://help.ovo.com.au/hc/en-us/articles/213397698-How-long-…). Ovo, Amaysim, Vaya et al often blame non-matching customer information or slowness in your old provider releasing the number but I've caught them repeatedly lying about this. The real reason appears to be apathy and lack of staff.

The TIO does take complaints for porting issues but I never bothered (I really should because I think a 5 day turnaround is unreasonable in 2017 and if no one complains they'll continue thinking it's acceptable). Here's a link to their position statement: https://www.tio.com.au/about-us/position-statements/transfer…. The page has links to laws and codes of practice that are relevant to transfer of services.

        • @peterpeterpumpkin: this is really informative, you are like some guru with complaint troubleshooting. Fair enough your service is ported through to completion, but there's gotta be a away to deter these MVNO from screwing customers around with porting.

  • Was just advised this by online chat regarding payment failure..

So those $1 payments are just a test payments done by the bank to ensure the card is valid. It will appear pending but will disappear in a few business days. The second payment is for the 8GB plan and should be going through without a problem - make sure there is at least $2 in the account though. If the payment is failing I would recommend trying on a different web browser, contacting your bank to make sure it is allowing you to purchase the SIM or calling us on 13 56 86 to process that order :)

    • Do you get any atm?
I've tried again and got another 2 pending payment for $1 each.

      • +1

nope no luck, i think I might just give up.

They said its a funds issue but I am sure its a payment issue on their end.

        • +2

Looks like its an issue with CBA mastercards, tried with my BW mastercard and it went through.

        • @ArabMoneeey: Likewise - Worked with my MyerVisa but not CBA card

        • +1

I was cautious and predicted OVO would do something dodgy (after reading up on ozb and whirlpool about ppl unable to port or change their plans during xmas) so i used my coles prepaid mastercard from here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/237806.Phew lucky i did and they deducted $2.It says nowhere they were going to deduct $34.95 before i can activate my account ?
What happens if i don't have $34.95 in my coles prepaid mastercard ? If it doesnt activate and i have to pay $34.95 before it gets activated i want a refund. Save the drama

  • +1

Tried to pay 8 times and keep getting the same error message. I give up

    • +1

Check your bank account. It should have at least 8 pending payments or more :)

      • Yes indeed. All thanks to OVO

        • A company that promises all and delivers nothing, ovo and out.

        • -1

@saywhat: Their 1.5gb for $15 a month doesn't seem that bad though. I might give it a shot

  • Tried to register, enetered all of the details accurately and correctly, but it says my log in details are incorrect. Would not risk it, as sometimes they would have 30 days cancellation notice so it is almost impossible to skip the recharge.
If it does not work at this stage, how good will it work later once they have my money?.. Gave up.

  • -1

is this prepaid or on a plan? will a credit check be done? will sim be shipped already activated?

Received 3 emails (Welcome to Ovo, Payment Receipt, Congrats on signing up to a hot deal) Was charged 5x Pre-auth payments to get that far though, using a prepaid Visa card I had laying around that literally only had $5.80 on it though, so if they're going to attempt to charge the $34.95 and refund as people are mentioning above it ain't happening…

  • I got chat to work in Opera after it not working in Chrome. I tried 2 different credit cards and got the same error message.

  • Just ordered. All went through with payment OK. Apparently they have sorted out their issues.

    • +1

still not working for me :(

      • they told me the account was setup. So perhaps log out and log back in. Otherwise give them a call.

  • +1

Same cant get it through the payment

  • +3

Confirming there is a credit card pre authorisation for $1.00 that is refunded in 24hrs.

So you will see 2x $1.00, one of which will be refunded.

    Cheers

    • Thanks Matt. I can see the pre auth charges in my bank, but I got the error message saying "There was an error with your payment"

    • +3

tried different card and it works. i cant get it through with the CBA mastercard tried twice, I changed it to ANZ Visa and it went through with no error.

    • +1

"There was an error with your payment"
Tried three different times over the last couple of hours and it all ended up with this - after trying to use my CBA Mastercard each time. I checked my account and it's pending (3 transactions of $1) though I never got a receipt or confirmation or anything like that.

After reading some comments, used my 28 Degrees and it went through fine, no problems. Got a receipt, confirmation, order number etc…

It does seem like a problem with the CBA Mastercard, and I'm sure they will refund those who tried multiple times without success with that particular card, once they realize what the problem is.

        Read my comment below.

    • 16/8/2017 Charged me an extra $1 for credit card testing and now after 5 days still pending

Be prepared for a 2 week wait if your in Sydney. Took this long with both my sims (3 months apart). Great prices though

      • +5

        Thanks mate. Appreciate it

  • -5

Haven't read all the thread, but if you're getting an error message, I think it's because it wants at least the $35 monthly fee to be in your account, rather than $1. I had $1 - it wouldn't register - as soon as I transferred $50 into the bank account, it worked.

EDIT: And now, my bank won't allow me to transfer the $49 back to the other account. Never seen that before. They must have some kind of security hold on your second month fee, preventing you transferring it out!

  • +1

So if I understand correctly. If I order the sim today I will have 60 days to the 15th October 2017 to activate the sim?

    • +2

Yes - the online purchase date is the only date they can go by, because the only other date is when you activate the SIM… and, well, then it's activated, LOL. It won't be 60 days from when it's delivered, because the SIMs just turn up in your mailbox and who knows when that happens.

  • This is an awesome price! Can I just use this for the data?

  • -2

    Not a deal.

    Authorisation wants $36 not $1

    • +2

Are you sure? From the comments it's a $1 authorisation amount.

    • +9

Third umpire says its $1, Tubby.

    • 2 x $1 authorisations for me (which I'm guessing one would be the authorisation and one would be the actual payment).

  • Getting error: There was a problem creating your account.
Already created the account, logged out, logged in. Trying to buy and at last stage gives the above error.

    Thanks mate

  • This offer is packed full of value and exclusive to Supercheap Auto customers.

    Where do I prove that?
Or all I have to do is just wish them well and enter the coupon at checkout?

    • +1

      I think they're just calling us Supercheap customers… :D

Dunno what the Auto is. Ozbargainers are all automatically super cheap?

Just got the email "Your Ovo SIM is in the post" Good times good times

  • I want to port a number to this sim, but I didn't see anything when I signed up. They've given me a new mobile number.
Did I miss a step? Or does the porting process come later after the sim arrives?

    • +1

Porting comes when time to activate sim ( after you get it in mail ).

    • +1

Same here. They just provided a new mobile number on the emailed tax invoice.

    • +1

      From OVO website:
      Activate your OVO SIM card
To activate your SIM you'll need your SIM number and your OVO service number. Your SIM number is printed on your SIM card (and underneath your SIM card) and your OVO service number is in the heading of the letter you received from us.

If you've chosen OVO Mobile and you want to bring your phone number with you, we will also need some additional info about your existing service - we'll get to that in the next step!

      OVO service number
Tip: You’ll find the OVO services number on the letter that accompanied your OVO SIM card – it’s the same format as a phone number so starts with 04 and is 10 digits.

  • Can we buy more than 1 for the same delivery address ?

    • Live Chat said yes so I assume so.

  • Thanks OP. Just ordered. Payment was a breeze with Velocity Visa Prepaid.
    2 x $1 charged.

    • Out of curiosity, are you referring to the Velocity Global Wallet?

      • +1

        Yes. Velocity Global Wallet indeed.

  • Certainly has been an issue with some CBA Mastercards. CBA are looking in to it. Cheers

    • . please delete.

  • Can you get SIMs from outlets for Ovo?

  • Still cannot pay with my Common Bank Master Card :(

    • webchat said issues with CBA issued CC. The error meaage i was getting, "There was an error processing your payment" apparently CBA has a security issue which blocks these $1 transactions. Used Bankwest and went through in one go

  • Thanks TA, got 1, hopefully Kogan will list some more $1 Sims soon.
Has anyone tried the family zone service?

  • You guys get payment error because you are using CBA card, try with a different bank card.
the other $1 is a pr-eauthorisation charge which should be back in your account in 1 - 5 business days (first time have heard of this thing).

  • +2

Regarding CBA cards issue. 28degrees card worked 1st try. Other cards mentioned above also working. Jut avoid CBA at the moment it seems.

    Thanks OP, can't beat $30+ value for $1 ;-)

  • Just received SIM card. Thanks
