    How good are the wifi amplifiers and how do you use them?

    • +12 votes

      You place the repeaters close to the boundary of a wifi black spot (not inside).

      For best results the Wifi repeater should be placed where it can receive a strong signal. If you place it where it can only receive partial signals, then all it would do is just push those weak signals around.

      Because this is a single band repeater, it would need to receive first and then re-transmit, so you'd see close to 50% reduction in wifi speeds. E.g I tested 50mbs down direct to the router but only 30mbps when going through the Mi Wifi repeater.

        So plug into power or USB?

        •

          Anything with a 5V usb socket should do it. A laptop port, a 240v->5v adapter, or a power brick will all work.

        •

          If you have anything with a USB port such as TV, desktop, or just a wall charger, half way between your main router and the spot where you need the WiFi you should be right. Bought on the last deal, pretty happy so far. As Scrimshaw pointed out, speed is reduced, but getting anything at all in my study is more important for me

        • +1 vote

          Plug them into any USB port then download the mi home app.. make account.. hold pin till it stops flashing and on your screen it will ask you if you want to add this device.. tick yes and complete the setup. And make sure to set location to main land China. I have one and it definitely does increase the wifi range. Great for parts of the house that don't get any range

      • +2 votes

        I'm getting close to 90% with this repeater or 4 times faster than without it in my black spot.

      •

        Thanks for the tips. Having a crap time with the repeater myself, will try a few moves and see how it goes.

    Hi Op, can you do a special on the Xiaomi Mijia Smart Light by any chance?

      Great table lamp. I've got 3 of them now.

      • +13 votes

        Your table must be well lit.

    • +3 votes

      So @Gearbest rep, I noticed you have responded to most of the other queries. Any chance of a special on the item I posted above? Thanks

      • +1 vote

        Did you pm the rep?

        • +1 vote

          Not yet, thought he would respond here since he has responded to other requests but I will take your suggestion. Thanks

        • +1 vote

          @blahoz: He said in the op to pm him.

  •

    ok….

  •

    The 20000 power bank comes up FIXED PRICE Coupon: $22.79 but your subtotal $28.72 and also need to add postage.

    •

      Hi superforever,pls log in to apply this code,Limited to one per account,yes,we dont have free shipping for now.

      •

        I have already logged in tried two computers two ISP the same show FIXED PRICE Coupon $22.79 but your subtotal $28.72.

        So your promo is $28.72 delivered or not?

        •

          Same here… Subtotal AU$28.72 + Shipping AU$5.54 = Total AU$34.26

          Bit misleading IMO

      • +2 votes

        we dont have free shipping

        Just like this thread here, you were advised to add shipping to the advertised price. If you continue to omit it you will be negged for misleading prices.

        • +2 votes

          My point is why it said FIXED PRICE COUPON $22.79

        • +3 votes

          @superforever: I think that's USD and $28 is the converted amount

        • +3 votes

          @4tran:
          Original Xiaomi Power Bank 2 20000mAh
          US$22.79 + US$4.40 shipping = US$27.19

          Rep chose to mislead everyone by not advertising shipping cost.

        Any update on this?

  • +1 vote

    the xiaomi router phones home and sends data back to the motherland, its baked into the hardware, if you dont mind your info being sent there then go for gold

    you can run openwrt on them but it runs like crap

    •

      Sounds like you would not recommend it?

  •
  •

    Hi Rep,

    Any discount on the zigbee edition of this: http://www.geekbuying.com/item/Original-Xiaomi-Mi-Smart-WiFi...

    •

      Hi President Bartlett,you can try this code Socket87,this is the loewst price I can find for now.

      •

        Hi Rep,

        Is Socket87 still valid? says otherwise.

        •

          Still work for 30 more time,but it limited to one per account.

      •

        Says, is not valid???

        •

          Maybe you're trying it at geekbuying site? This deal is from Gearbest.

          Just curious, why do you prefer the zigbee edition? I have this and want to get another one but not sure of the difference between wifi and zigbee edition except that the zigbee needs the gateway.

        •

          @jominix:

          I have a smartthings hub, which is excellent. I dont want 50+ devices chundering up my wifi network.

        •

          @President Bartlett:

          I see, thanks. Same reason here, I'm using the Xiaomi gateway with all other zigbee sensors, I just hope they make a zigbee version of the smart light. Any news when smartthings hub will officially be released here?

        •

          @jominix:

          yes, really hoping for zigbee smartlights……xiaomi style

        •

          @jominix:

          I doubt they will release a smarththings hub for Australia for a while, as they need to change the zwave chip. I dont use zwave anyway, zigbee is fine.

          Stick to one protocol for mesh, much better. (bonus: zigbee is worldwide same standard, as you probably know).

          I have 4 xiaomi temp sensors, 7 xiaomi door sensors and 5 xiaomi buttons (do NOT have xiaomi hub). Looking for more cheap lights. The Phillips Hue (zigbee) work with smarthings, but expensive. Yeelight would be great, but that's wifi. I already have dozens of devices in wifi, I dont need dozens more.
