  • Anyone know if these are better than the X-530?

Anyone use either on an Xbox 360? You just plug the RCA cables in to get virtual surround sound? Does it sound good?

Don't really fancy spending $300+ on a digital surround sound system..

Z series is better than the X series.

No, x-530 is better. it has a much better subwoofer.

  • Hmm X-530 goes for around $80 on ebay. They're like a 6 year old model as well..hmm

  • Ah well I just bought the Z506. Thanks OP. I've read differing opinions on which is better. The subwoofer on the X-530 is meant to be better but the satellites on the Z506 are meant to be better. Sound quality is always a subjective matter, so I'll see how it goes..

Not sure if anyone will read this but the Z506 are horrible speakers. Very disappointed. Luckily Dick Smith have a 14 day return policy so I was able to go down to my local store to get a refund.

There was a constant humming sound coming from the speakers which was especially noticeable during say, a quiet scene in a movie, or even when you're not playing anything. Cranking the subwoofer up made the humming worse. The humming sounded like a generator or something. I like to leave my speakers on even when not in use but this is impossible with the humming. You have to turn the speakers off to get rid of this irritating sound.

The front speakers and subwoofer are pretty good, though they don't sound as good as my X-230 speakers and subwoofer. What's bad, are the 2 back speakers. They are HORRIBLE. They're noticeable worse than the front speakers. They make a very hollow echo kind of sound, devoid of any sort of bass that the front speakers have. If something very high pitch plays (e.g. when you press the Home button on a Wii remote), it rings/echos which just sounds terrible and cheap.

The 5.1 works pretty well but my X-230 still sounds better. Might try the X-530 or X-540 since they should be similar.
