  • They want $1590 for this over here. Tough luck guys. Even when the GST (eventually) kicks in, this is worth it!

Just pay with a card that offers purchase protection and it should take care of this. Amex are good with protecting purchases.

    • really? so AMEX protect overseas purchases re. warranties too?

      • +1

Can't speak for other cards, but my CBA issued diamond award AMEX only extends warranty for products that comes with Australian statutory warranty.
I would assume it's the same for other cards.

  • +1

Translated the Amazon page to English in Chrome. Says it cannot be delivered to Australia.

    • +1

Click "Go to Deal", add item to cart and checkout.

I've owned the sr5010 (prev model) for 12 months or so and it's been great. Great sound for both movies and music. Paired it with some Q acoustics 3000's and never looking back. Fantastic price, I paid $1420 locally. I think Marantz has a 2 year warranty for local stock with a bonus year if you register your product online. But this is literally half the cost. Worth the risk IMO

  • +2

Great price, I paid $1390 locally when it was released last year, fantastic receiver.

  • Thank you. Pretty good deal !

  • Thoughts on this vs a Yamaha RX-V781? I ordered the Yamaha a while ago, but still waiting for amazon UK to send it, so I do have time to cancel it..
It would be paired with Klipsch RP-280F speakers..

    • -2

If Yamaha is cheaper I will go with it, Yamaha is a safe choice

With marantz you may not like its sound

      • I would have thought that with gear like this it'd be the other way around…. but features will be better with the Yamaha, for sure. Also software and support on the Marantz may be a real problem (How's Yamaha at maintaining their receiver's software???) So many of these things have light output stages even in the hi-po categories now. IMHO Marantz gear is hard to fault sound-wise, but value for money it never is (in Oz let alone anywhere else).

        • With regard to value, I don't know, both of these two AVRs are about the same price with the sales. I've been doing some reading now, and the great majority of opinions are that yamahas are more reliable..
I am just wondering what would produce the better sound, and I cant exactly go somewhere and test these two side by side with the speakers I have :/

        • @Zeppelin:I'd imagine you are right. Did you find info on the reliability of the Marantz? They make so few in comparison, esp in this segment.

Be sure to compare physical weight though.

You have to think triple hard about buying an amp lighter than another, usually a very bad sign.

        • Of this particular model, no.. but I have read that Yamaha always manufactures their own gear (in Malaysia I believe) whereas Marantz is known to use third party OEMs. Who knows.. between these models, the Y has 2 years warranty and the M 3 years. But that also might be moot considering the purchase is from Europe/Amazon and not local.
Weight wise, the Yamaha is a half kilo heavier.

        • @Zeppelin: Yeah mate, Yamaha is the go. Marantz is not the same Marantz it was 20 years ago.

        • @Major Mess:
Agreed, but the Marantz is still a nicer sound. Had 4 Yamaha Receivers, 2 Denon and currently use 2 Marantz and they leave them for dead.

        • I'm getting the feeling that updates are far and few between. For the receivers I have had anyway. Guess its not in their interest to fix or introduce features via firmware. Sometimes I wonder why they even have internet connectivity in the first place. I wonder if any "hone home", so the manufacturer can keep track of home many people are actually using the receiver.

        • @Sammyboy: Leave it unplugged. Less chance it'll auto update a bug that will forcibly obsolete them that way. Or pose a risk to other hosts, or you.

All of them phone home- and third parties too, right out of the box.

Just stream your audio using something designed and maintained to do it.

A good test also (for comparison purpososes) is to carefully step through the HDMI/web UI of each machine. Is the browser code clean, smart or is it bloated and slow. Security, authentication. certificates, anything where they can score points will be valuable indicators of how much effort they put into giving you customers a quality experience.

If the Yammy is 1/2 kg heavier, there is a good chance it can drive the speakers better, but it is possible the Mtz uses the latest and greatest output IC/ICs and has some serious benefits. But if new or low production, it may also have broken software and or useless support!

    • I have the 781, happy with it just wish it had more HDMI inputs and only first 3 are hdcp 2.2

    • Yamaha MusicCast is awesome so I would stick with the Yamy.

    • The Klipsch speakers need a lot of power to drive (although they are quite efficient already) and it seems that the Marantz has more power than the Yammy by specs.

So if you have intentions to crank them up a bit, then the Marantz might drive them better.

      Cheers

  • Amazing price. Wish I didn't have a not too old Yamaha. Definitely nothing with preouts at that price.

  • Thinking of upgrading from my Sony STR-DN1040

Are there any major new technologies due out in 2018 that it would be worth waiting for?

    • +1

I got a NR model and a bit worried by airplay 2 coming through new Ios updates. Wonder if it will be backwards compatible with airplay

      • Thanks, I wasn't aware of AirPlay 2 yet. Smooth AirPlay support is absolutely essential as I use it all the time so that seems worth waiting for to make absolutely sure

        • Can't you get DLNA on Apple gear at all? I know Apple really clamp down on what they let you do with your igear, but surely by now they would let you use a non apple protocol that every other piece of electronic equipment supports?

        • @Major Mess:
Bluetooth? Otherwise not as far as Im aware

        • +1

          @Major Mess: apple? Surely not!

        • AirPlay sends any audio or video that's currently playing on your iPhone or Mac (whether that's Spotify, Tidal, iTunes, YouTube, anything) to an AirPlay-capable receiver via WiFi with lossless audio.

DLNA is for streaming from media libraries, it's not the same thing

        • @y: Huh, are you sure? That would be a pain having to have all the data go through your phone the whole time. I guess if it is only a video and audio stream then you can play sources the amp can't handle natively. Still it must be a pain needing an idevice on all the time just to play a song or video file. With dlna once you send the stream you can turn your phone off, there is only the device playing the content and a source required. Or you can simply stream using the player alone, and no phone etc required.

  • Great price for this! Glad i waited and didn't bite on the Yamaha v383 from the other day. This one has way more features which i wanted and well worth the price!
    Thanks.

    • BTW, they also had them in Silver for the same price, but i think i snagged the last Silver one at that price :)

  • Watch out for amazon offering to bill in aud. I got stung recently with inyernational fee by bank. I think foreign payment gateway was cause.

    • Always better off using a card like 28 Degrees and choosing USD. Whenever an online store or point of sale offers to bill in your home currency it's almost always a bad rate

New 2017/18 Model 5012 has been released already overseas. Australia doesn't get this until October. I'm guessing they are clearing the old models to make way for the new ones in Europe.

I have the older sr6007 from 2012 and never had a problem. Also owned older models without problems as well.

I'm in need of a new receiver. Only because the HDMI ports on my SR6007 got taken out in a storm and it would probably be too expensive to repair. Just can't decide between getting another Marantz or switching to one of the new Yamaha models that have just been released.

    • I wonder if there will be any guarantee that the 5012 will get AirPlay 2 support by firmware update

  • So… i have had a Onkyo TX-NR676E 7.2 Channel Receiver… never been super impressed with it. The sound is fine, connectivity is super average. Would this be an improvement?

  • The only gripe I have with Marantz receivers is that unlike Denon, none of them support multichannel DSD playback.

  • +1

Marantz SR6007 owner here, the small display drives me nuts, I hate that I can't see more info. It may seem like a small gripe, but it has driven me nuts far more than I thought it would.

    • Tell us your birthday. Your ozbargain buddies here will pool together to buy you a big magnifying glass, as a birthday present, to put in front of your small Marantz display. :) :P

      • Thanks, I look forward to the big glass.

I should have been clearer, it's not the size of the text, but the limited info it can display. All it shows is the input selected. It may sound odd, but I did like my prior AVR showing what audio stream was being played, a visual confirmation of what is going on, without the need to enable the AVRs OSD, which requires 6 or so steps to cycle through to remove from the screen.

    • But when you are watching a movie doesn't the display annoy you?

      • No,it's not in my eyeline, it's on low, and it can be set to disappear after a few seconds of showing a change.
Plus, it's rare we watch stuff in a dark room.

    • Total non-issue for me, my receiver is hidden away behind a solid wood door in a custom media unit and controlled by a Harmony remote. Before that I would make the display turn off as quickly as possible and put black tape over all exposed LEDs because I don't want any distracting lights while watching movies

  • Hi, giving a checkout error, did anyone get it to go through to Aus?

"Sorry, this item can't be sent to your selected address. Learn more. You may either change the delivery address or delete the item from your order. You can also see if this item is available for delivery to your address from another seller."

    • Did you "Select amazon.de from sellers list" as per The op?

  • +2

Thanks, just got one for my birthday!

    • +1

      Happy Birthday to you

  • +2

Happy Birthday to me… purchased, thanks OP!

    • +2

      Happy Birthday to you too

  • Is Dolby atmos up to 5.1.2 the norm or is it possible for 7.2? Just wouldnt want to get a 7.2 setup and not have it fully utilized.

I am a noob with audio.

    • following….

    • +2

This receiver can output up to 5.1.2 via Dolby Atmos or 7.2 Channel setup. One or the other. The Dolby Atmos x.x.2 is the 2 x ceiling speakers whereas the 7.2 is the conventional type setup.

There is a certain criteria required for Dolby Atmos to work apart from the only the receiver. Please google Dolby Atmos and it will be explained there.

HDR will work (passthrough) if you have a HDR compatible TV however not sure about HDR10.
The newer receivers that are coming out will support this and also Dolby Vision.

The OP has already the specs noted and it does state HDR.

If you into the newest standards such and wish to buy the latest TV that supports Dolby Vision then I would not get this receiver as in my view it won't be compatible, even with the latest firmware update.

      Cheers

      • +1

From marantz support regarding HDR10 & Dolby Vision:

Currently, all our HDR (High Dynamic Range) capable AVRs support HDR10 pass-through.
        In detail, HDR10 is compatible to NR1506, NR1606, NR1607, SR5010, SR5011, SR6010, SR6011, SR7010, SR7011 and AV7702MkII as well as AV7703.

For the following models, Marantz will issue a firmware update to additionally support Dolby Vision and HLG (Hybrid Log Gamma) HDR pass-through:

        AV-8802A, NR1607, SR5011, SR6011, SR7011 and AV7703

  • I was pretty angry with UPS courier & Amazons.de disregard for the security of their parcels! Especially expensive ones!

Wasn't home & they just left the dam $700+ receiver in our front door. My neighbour coming home from his arvo walk noticed this box in full view of the side walk.. so he took it with him after seeing it was a Marantz receiver. Good thing he was my mate and he sent me a message about it.

Just to prove how idiotic UPS really are.. they put on their tracking system that they left the package in our front door.

I've left a couple of queries regarding this and they haven't bothered to get back to me!

So if you are going to buy from Amazon.de, make sure you tell them NOT to leave the package when nobody is home!

  • +1

Grabbed one… won't ship for a few weeks though.

      • Cheers!

Can only see it for $832 delivered. Am I not seeing/doing something right?

        • +1

Select Euro and pay with a card like 28 Degrees with no international transaction fees.

        • @grababargain:
          Cheers!
