Not hard to tell which keys they replaced on the keyboard for the refurb…

    • What a terrible job, must've been a shortage

    • +2

      It's a gaming laptop!
The keys are a different colour as they are common keys used in most modern games, not because they've been replaced.

      • Oh… My bad…

        • +1

          I thought you were joking.

          @sillywalks:

          Oh… My good…

  • Title on eBay post says gtx1070, but spec list says gtx1060. Which is it? :O

I'd go by this. As OP said they have another listing with the 1060 which is cheaper.

      • Only a 10/100 network connection? I would be asking the seller to send me the specs before buying.

        • I didn't even think they made laptops without Gb Ethernet these days.

      • Wish they included power usage benchmarks or estimates. The hidden costs of any electronics or appliance is the energy cost.

        • Based on what? How does anyone know how long you will use it each week, or how hard the cpu and gpu will be working. The specs give the max power consumption, and you will have to estimate if it will cost you $50 or $150 a year.

        • @Major Mess: exactly, come up with a efficiency rating and manufacturers will put in power modes to rig them. Not a number to base a laptop purchase from.

        • @Major Mess: maybe just an average setting will do or random scenario.. anything so we can compare say daily prices at 3 hours at say x amount of price per kilowatt hour (let's make it $0.30/kWh)

I just wish there was some sort of identification or some easy way to see it as sometimes even the energy statistics are hidden or ambiguous.

        • @rekabkram: well then we as the consumer can see past that or complain with our wallets so they don't do that and the honest manufacturers will automatically win.. natural selection will always take its place.

  • 2 kg and thin profile. looks like a good buy depending on how 'used' it is

    • +1

It's a manufacturer refurb according to EBay's official listing of it, which means it's essentially them reselling a return they have quality assured as they would a new product.

Nothing defective about it at all.

      • Been burned before with an official refurb, but from Apple Inc. Died after only a few months

  • +1

    I think it's a gtx1070 but I did see 970m, 1060, and 1070 in the listing description :O

  • I heard this is a great little laptop, but battery life has taken a huge hit since the last version due to the G-Sync Panel. Because this panel needs the 1060 running at all times to display information to the screen, it requires more energy. A normal IPS panel is able to switch to the onboard GPU to converse battery during non graphic intensive tasks. But in saying that, the panel looks great and you get a 1060 for 1600. Its a good deal.

    • 1070

    • It gives 50% more run time than gaming laptops without gsync gave 5 years ago. But yeah not much good for carting around without access to AC.

  • hmm anyone replaced their desktop with a laptop before. I usually use my pc most of the day and I'm not sure if a laptop can take that kind of constant usage?

    • I use my laptop hooked up to my workstation. Take it out occasionally for on the go computing. Works fine

Bought a ROG refurbished from eBay in January. Had to send it in for repairs (keyboard connection something something) a while back. They fixed it in 4 working days and shipped it back to me via Toll for delivery the next day. Other than this I've been super happy with the purchase.

edit: was actually from this very seller. Shipping was quick, laptop was sent in its original box with tax invoice and warranty information that Asus Service in Sydney had no problems at all with.

    • Any visible scratches or marks to suggest it was a refurb?

      • None at all. It looked and smelt so new that I'm fairly sure they had replaced at least the keyboard and the front of the laptop.

        • I bought a "new" Asus ROG and it ended up being a refurb. Apart for a few marks on the case it looked new.
Checking the hours on the hard drive and finding a couple of thousand hours run time, confirmed the used state of the Laptop. The hard disk died a year later.

CrystalDiskInfo retrieves the hdd logged data about usage and errors, etc.

    • Thanks for this info! When you say tax invoice, would this be eligible for TRS?

      • -3

would this be eligible for TRS?

        https://www.ausbt.com.au/travel-trip-how-to-claim-the-trs-ai…

the TRS is intended for products that are not coming back into Australia.

        • Thanks JV! Take a look at my other posts and you'll see I live and work overseas…

      • +1

        Yes it would be.

So in theory, it would be $1,4XX after tax refund.

        So tempting.

        • Depends if receipt has your full name and addtess as its over 1K

        • @jv:

Good point, the name has to be under WHOEVER CLAIMING THE TRS but any address is fine.

    • Thanks a lot for sharing this - gives me some confidence that this will hopefully be a good buy.

  • Has anyone confirmed whether it is a 1070? The actual store has only got the ROG with 1060 .. so I'm doubting this comes with a 1070?

  • +1

If anyone is interested, I have messaged the shop they can confirm that it comes with GTX1070 8GB.

    I hope this helps.

  • I'm too late.. all sold :(

  • Was hesitating since the deal show up the 1st minute. And I missed it. I try to convince myself that at this price the specs are incrediable. But I really don't like its look.

  • As said above - they have updated the listing to reflect 1070 8GB card but it is now sold out.
