I've been using this model for a number of months and it's quite good. Plays from SD card, USB, bluetooth. Has a bendable arm so is good for tight places. Sound quality.. decent. Not crisp but thats typical of anything FM based.

Generally it's a good unit, and worth the $8 I payed. Now banggood is doing a sale and you can get it for under a fiver

I bought a unit that looks exactly the same from AliExpress for around the same price. Always had a buzz on the sound and was low volume meaning that it couldn't put out many tunes. YMMV. For what it's worth I've used the same phone with other BT devices and my new head unit without issues.

    • what do you use currently?

      • +1

I ended up just getting a head unit installed, couldn't be (profanity) with screwing around with the transmitter anymore

  • When a call comes in, if you arent connected to the same fm frequency, will an android phone generally ring through its own speaker or will it ring through the bt connection to the fm radio? Does the unit itself make a sound on an incoming call?

My mother doesnt want to change headunits but also likes listening to the radio…

Not sure I understand what you mean by 'the same fm frequency'. Sounds like you think phones operate on fm frequency

What happens is the ringer sound interrupts any music playing and comes through the car speakers

      • Lets say this bt unit is tuned for 98.9fm, but the radio happens to be at 101.9fm. Basically, is there any audible indication a call is coming in so she would know to change station.

        • There will be no indication. The only way around that would be to play radio off your phone via bt

        • this bt unit is tuned for 98.9fm,

then your car radio have to be tuned 98.9fm, to hear what's coming over BT.

Move away from there; you'll hear normal radio; and only whatever on those channels.

I don't have one but I think you'll find if the phone is connected to the FM transmitter, it won't know whether or not you're tuned in to it on the radio and will output to it regardless, meaning you won't hear the phone ringing if you're listening to another radio station and the phone doesn't ring itself. Unlikely that the transmitter has its own speaker built in.

      • Interesting question.

Mostly, both will output through speakers simultaneously?
(the demodulator in the radio is generally dumb; it just decodes and sends to the speakers whatever signal it's tuned to.)

After all; this is the same tech of FM microphones from a decade back?
(two FM mics tuned to the same frequency can both be heard simultaneously)

  • $4.88 on paypal :D

  • What is this strange technology? Can I listen in on police frequencies?

    • +2

No. You connect your phone to it via Bluetooth which then relays it via FM radio to your car stereo. It's for those of us who don't have a car stereo with BT.

  • What's the hands free phone call quality like? Does it uses the BT unit's mic as opposed to phone mic? I have a Xiamoi Roidmi v1 that doesn't have hands free calls, it's music sound quality is great but not being able to do hands free through car radio system is getting a bit annoying. So depending on answers I might get this especially at this price if the hands free is reasonable.

    • I'm a bit confused with the "hands free" calls. I thought most of these fm transmitters, you still need to press on the "answer" button to receive the incoming calls. Unless you can say a command to these things to answer a call which technically is a "hands free"!

    • +1

This unit has a built-in mic. You still need to press the Green button to receive the call. phone call quality is better than expected. Sound is fed through your car speakers [provided your radio is paired]. Good thing with this particular device is that music has auto-resume.

      • Sweet, I can live with one button press and reasonable phone call quality. At this price it's worth giving it a go. Thanks pork chop for the response and OP for posting.

      • Dam already got a diff one :( #thanksthough :)

      • Confirmed.

Just bought one for $4.69 AUD (Paypal).

        • Are you able to provide some feedback if you have received it yet. Thanks

        • @Arsi:

I got mine and honestly, it's a lot better than I expected. The sound is clear and setup was very easy! Haven't tried phone calls yet and no buzzing sound like the other Oznargainer suggested. First day with it so take it with a grain of salt.

          Thanks mate much appreciated

  • My dad has a 2002 Land Rover Discovery with the stock headunit in, & can't input any Aux/USB. If he plugged this into his cigarette lighter, he could receive music from a USB or phone through FM. Correct?

    • correct

  • Some of the pictures of the product look like a man's private part sticking out waiting to mate.

  • "good for tight places" my mind drifted elsewhere for a minute…

Stay there. It's much nicer than reality

Don't most cars even older ones have an Auxiliary Port even if they don't have Bluetooth? I had one of these FM transmitter years ago and they always produced an annoying hiss for me. Hope they have improved.

  • Can anyone comment on how this compares with a roidmi in terms of sound quality? I've got a roidmi 2s with the alfoil hack to make it work in my X-Trail, but would like a functional mike and the music controls look like a plus to skip tracks etc. The roidmi transmission quality for music is great though.

  • Suggest you indicate 12V (car kit) or similar in the title and/or description

  • shows as $8.89 aud?
