I'm not sure about mkv playback. I'm guessing not at the moment. The thing which makes this deal attractive however is the dual playback feature. I bought a PVR-HD set top box from shoppingsquare a month back or so and was frustrated when couldn't play vids on computer (with no intervention) so this is good to go straight away, and particularly useful for less tech-savvy people.

And yeah, first post. Go hard cos that's the way I like it ;)

  • Playing videos on your computer is nothing to do with a pvr, do you mean this can be an external drive?

Playing videos on your computer is codec related normally and if you have vlc then you have no problems mostly

    • I'm not sure why but when I tried playing using vlc didn't work for me

Either way, with all the writing on OzStock its guaranteed to work on the comp

  • Pass.

  • the dual playback feature is important to actually see in writing. I got stung with a PVR, which is a pretty good unit, but takes ages to dump a show to DVD-R because it is the only way to get it off the unit and watch it elsewhere.

  • Why would anyone need a STB that could receive broadcasts in both standard and high definition?

    • so you can show your grandkids what standard definition looked like.

"ehhh you young'ns have the high life! in the old days, I used to 'ave to walk a quarter mile to see a tv with high definition level detail"

    • Obviously you need a STB to be able recieve SD and HD signals. Otherwise you will not be able to watch all the available tv channels. As with the launch of new tv channels recently. Most tv channels are only available in SD or HD but not both.

Most people buy HD boxes because they want to watch the HD only channels that have just started broadcasting. With composite video connection these boxes can be used on old SD only CRT/LCD tv to watch the HD only channels.

This box is nothing new. Seems the same as all the other non freeview PVR ready STBs that have been posted here.

    • depending on the hdd you record onto and how much space is left

  • Specs say there's a H264 decoder. MKV sounds possible.
Know if it's FAT32 or NTFS?

  • I bought a Kogan and happy with it.

The Kogan suuports up to 1TB HDD. Just wondering what's the max this one supports? and whether it takes NTFS or just FAT32?
