  • The code cannot be applied to your order. Weird! Anyone has problem like me?

Works here. Do you have an Australian Paypal account and does your Paypal account email match your eBay account email? They are the two most common problems.

      Item (1) AU $424.00
      Postage Free
      Vouchers -AU $84.80
      Order total AU $339.20

      Works for me.

You both right, I have to create new Ebay account with email like Paypal account. Don't know why Ebay has this restriction.
But now it works. Kudos to both of you :)

  • EV3 has been out for something like 4 years.

    Is there an EV4 coming?

  • I'm thinking of getting a budget version of it. Has anyone tried Xiaomi Mitu Building Block Robot? Does Lego Mindstorms EV3 is really worth spending double the amount as for the Xiaomi version?

    • I'd be worried about support for the app. I've got a Xiaomi MiPad 1 that's still on Android 4.0.4 - it's gets frequent 'Mi' updates, but the base OS hasn't been updated since it was released.

      • One of my concerns is somehow in between this line. Will Xiaomi keep it alive and expand it, or will it disappear shortly?

This is their second kit and apparently there have been some updates to the control app and the mcu firmware.
Also, by the look of the things they are planning to expand it for additional sensors, but for now there is only one in the market.

Sadly the online resources for it are limited. It's hard to know, if the hardware is going to community friendly and hackable :(

… the good thing about it is the price and compatibility with the Lego blocks.

    • You might want to consider this.
      https://meetedison.com/

      • Cool, that sounds like a cheaper alternative since we already have the blocks. I will definitely check it out!

I recently bought the Mitu bunny robot (not the tank you linked)

The quality of the blocks are on par with the Lego

The app comes in Chinese but can be changed to English under language options and it is 100% English

Easy to connect to the Robot via bluetooth and operate… joystick mode, Gyro mode, plan a path

      and it is cheap :)

      • Have you put it together yet? Does it work as advertise or there are bugs?

I'm wondering, if the programming side of it buggy or it can really be used as an introduction to a 'cause/effect' programming for kids.

        • I have put it together and is working as shown in different videos on Youtube…

Haven't tried the program mode yet.

      • did you buy the mitu bunny robot direct?

I bought one of these for my son 1.5 yrs ago for $400. It stands next to his other lego creations unused.
Unless your willing to supervise / motivate your child, it might be a barely used present.

fair warning for people, but this is DEFINITELY not a kids toy.

the power you have in these kits is not beyond the scope of an undergraduate university degree. Unless your kid is a graduated Harvard at 15 type they're definitely going to need some hand-holding to do anything beyond scratching the surface.

an arduino clone, a breadboard and a few LED's and bits and pieces might be a cheaper way to gauge their interest in this sort of thing.

I think kinds are growing up 'faster' these days. Recently I've found out that our local primary school is offering Scratch and hardware hacking as an extra curriculum activities.

But yeah, as with anything else you need to put some effort in to get them excited about new things. :)

  • I missed out on the shopforme, the dispatch notification has already arrived. excited!!

  • ipad swiftplayground can control lego EV3, so can a bunch of other apps like Tynker that teaches coding to young children
