  • Dan Murphy's price match here I come.

    • +1

Yeah, get on it - cracking whisky for $55.

    • +49

Do not do price match @ Dan Murphy's. Support First Choice as well

      • How come?

        • +57

because you wouldn't be able to price match a competitor that doesn't exist if we only bought from DM exclusively…

        • +14

Agree with @pingponged: Me thinks $1 is worth paying if you support ongoing competition.

        • +2

          @m_tank:

Agree, but my nearest First Choice is 25km away, Nearest Dan's is 3Km.

      • +2

True, true… support first choice for giving us the deal….

    • +2

Same here - but I looked on Dan's website and it said this was $54.95 anyway. So I ordered it. What a day! I saved 5c and got 1.5% from cashrewards (about 70c). Time to PARRRTTYYYYYY!!!!

Hope it tastes nice, I like the Abunad'h, so if its anything like that I'm happy as :)

      • 54$ for me from Dan's

      • Showing up as $68.99 for me - link please?

        • I price matched in store. Guy at the counter said expect it to be on sale tomorrow :P

      • Dan's have the 10 year old for $54.95. Perhaps this is what you bought.

        • Nope, I have the 12 year old. Price beat at register when I showed the guy the first choice website.

        • +1

@anzacpaul: my comment was directed at bodysurfer, who said he'd bought from Dan's for $54.95.

    • I'm all for competition, but $54 from Dans for me
(my store was hiding theirs out the back, ha!)

  • +11

I'm so sorry liver and wallet

  • is this a peaty whisky?

    • +6

it's the opposite - very sherry influenced

      • thanks! I don't like peaty whiskeys so I'll give it a whirl :)

      • +1

oooh sounds delicious! i think this may be fathers day sorted. hehe i do like buying dad sneaky whiskeys so i can try them too

    • +5

no. a highland malt. sweet and complex notes.. would pleases a beginner and highland malt lover… punches well above its weight.

      • any comparable whisky you can note with this one in terms of taste? Similar to a Dalwhinnie possibly?

        • For Dalwhinnie price this would be it, something quite similar would be the Oban 14yo.

      • what region/style is most prominent in black douglas? that's the only i don't like so far and what to avoid similiar tasting ones.

    • +2

Definitely not mate. Smooth / sweet flavours. This is up there with the best. Did a blind tasting at work, always comes out up at or near the top.

  • What should I mix it with?

    • +31

a drop or two of water

    • +1

      Pepsi

    • +4

      2005 Coke Zero.

      • +11

        Ahhh.. 2005. A fine year.
Complex and big with hints of caramel

        • -3

Surely Vanilla or Cherry Coke will do it.

          God I love Cherry coke…

  • +3

i saw what i thought was the abundah bottle and got overly excited :(

    • +1

      how overly excited, exactly?

    • +2

Abundah is an amazing drop. It's the only whisky I drink that isn't Islay or Japanese.

It's also never on sale. Like ever.

      • Islay / Japanese ftw. What else is your go to?

        • Aberlour and Glenfarclas could both be considered 'sherried' whiskies, as far as their predominant cask influences go. If you like A'bunadh, then give Glenfarclas 105 a go - it's their cask strength NAS statement version, same as A'bunadh.

  • Awesome whisky for a great price! This is my daily drinker, not so expensive I feel bad having more than a few drams a night but still tasty enough not to make me regret it.

  • It was my friends birthday yesterday and guess what I bought him… dammit.

    • +13

Sounds like you could use some cheering up with a gift for yourself!

  • +1

If you are a fan of this one, I strongly suggest you stock up. There is a supply and demand issue with Aberlour. As a result BWS standard price went from $72 to $95 just recently. Expect all the liquor retailers to do this as well eventually.

  • At $80 Nectar D'Or is a great deal too

Similar vein, highland whisky with sweet fruit notes. Do recommend!

    • +1

WHAT!!!! I thought they stopped making this one. Love this whisky

      • Im going to have to try it with a bit of water now… Get the full French patisserie experience!

    • This is the one whisky in my collection I have never gelled with :( And believe me, I want to!

I like dessert-wine cask finishes, but Nectar is a very fragile and shy thing for me. I have to be so careful adding water, as anything more than about half a teaspoon seems to drown it. Have you fans got any words of wisdom for me to approach it differently?

  • Great price.

  • +1

Is there still a free delivery code lurking?

    • Website says free delivery for wine and spirit orders over $150.. so if you want to stock up, then yeah!!

  • Many thanks - just ordered a couple of bottles.

    • Should have ordered 3 for free delivery.

  • +2

Just ordered one - free click and collect! Flybuys and Paypal payment, all good. Thanks OP!

  • +2

For the price this is one of the best 12yo…but I love sherry/port/wine finish as well as lightly-peated Islay whiskies (Bowmore).

Love Aberlour, wasn't a fan until I visited the distillery last year and tried the full range. The A'bunadh is also a cracker (cask strength, sherry cask) but usually $105 or so on special.

  • +1

Long time lurker…just signed up to comment - what a whiskey, kicks the arse of many much more expensive bottles. Will stock up. Thanks OP!

    • it aint whiskey mate, it is whisky….

      • That's the risqué way to spell it…lol. It's not a word I type often to be fair, but looking online it says "The Scots spell it whisky and the Irish spell it whiskey, with an extra 'e'. This difference in the spelling comes from the translations of the word from the Scottish and Irish Gaelic forms. Whiskey with the extra 'e' is also used when referring to American whiskies."

        I learnt something - cheers!

  • Great deal, definitely will grab a few bottles on the way home tonight!

  • I can't collect from Ashfield branch instead I have to drive 30min @Marouba

    • I live right next door to maroubra shop and they had 3 left 2hours ago (I bought 2)

    • Just buy 3 and have it delivered for free

  • yep its a great whisky, but I bought a bottle of Johhnie Blue for $169 had $80 in flybuys dollars, They had a good selection though Cragganmore and Glenmorangie , Ardbeg so many .. They had Yamazaki Distillers for $99 too

  • Some great whisky prices!!!

  • Great price, thanks for this. I am new to scotch and this was on my list to try (along with the Glenmorangie).

  • +2

Ardbeg Uigeadail (very peaty) is the one to get. Steal at 110! You'll never go back to Lagavulin after this :)

  • -3

Are these 12yo good mixed with coke?

  • My dad usually drinks The Balvenie 12 Year Old Triple Cask. Does anyone know how this Aberlour compares?

  • Price matched at Dan's :) Looking forward to trying this.

  • Also priced matched with Dans as no First Choice near me.

    Gonna crack it open tonight

  • $54.95 at Dan's now (down from $68.99) to match FCL's price! Cheers
