  I booked for $315 Syd to Christchurch last week, so not too bad. But i didn't realise september was still going to be cold and won't have the option to pay for checked baggage unless I pay at the airport :(

    Just wear as much as possible on to the plane.
    Not sure about virgin, but Jetstar seem to have 3 prices of checked baggage pricing: at time of booking (cheapest), after booking & at airport… The at airport pricing it like $150/bag (!!)

  Its reasonable but not great. We booked a Jetstar flight in late July for $186 return AKL with 7 kg on board luggage. The Christchurch flights seems ok as one may see some snow on the peaks in Nov. Still, the South is a beautiful place to visit.

  Best to check the extra cost of checked baggage (if you are going to need it) before committing to a seat only deal as it was something like $120-150 per suitcase per leg when our travel agent stuffed up our booking recently. Cost us a lot of money and time at the airports.
  Works out cheaper/easier to book a flight with included baggage allowance etc rather than pay later.

    Really nice drive from Christchurch to Queenstown. Though it's 6 hrs long… If you have more time, a visit to the Mt Cook area is really worthwhile!

      Done that drive before a few years ago. It is a very nice drive with beautiful scenery, but not going to do that every time.

  Dodgy new? the engine to search for flights changed to some weird method and you have no clear mention that the price quoted for multiple carrier

  previously you would also know the return carrier without following extra links
