Phillips are no longer a good brand.

    • It might make sense at a price point a bit lower than this deal as Sony 49" inch 4k hdr TV's have been as low as $890 which is arguably a better deal

All about the picture quality , people love to jump on a TV cos it's big.

Philips are getting bigger in Europe so nice to see them make a return here. The real question is what components they are using - perhaps a LG or Samsung panel, will be interesting to see.

There's effectively two different Philips companies that make TVs.

There's the "real" Philips you see in Europe with OLED screens and AmbiLux.

Then there's the generic Chinese TVs that licensed the Philips name and slap that badge on.

I'll let you guess which ones are at BigW. Not that it's necessarily bad, but it won't be anything amazing.

        • Is it only about the panel? Kogan use a lot of LG panels, does that make them great Tv's?

        • @berko_max: no but a better chance at least.

Rtings.com is my go-to place for the proper lowdown on all the picture quality.

    • I am sure like countless others they have licensed their name to another manufacturer and this TV contains no Philips engineering. Never owned one but their Ambilight TVs looked awesome.

Edit: http://www.eetimes.com/document.asp?doc_id=1242337 highlights a previous licensing arrangement for their TVs.
