Binge are struggling for subscribers since losing HBO content to HBO Max. Also note that the basic subscription at $48 includes advertising, and lots of it.

Activated a 14 day trial promotion through Domino's in Friday..
Probably been 2 years since we last had it active.
OMG! We'll watch Colin from Accounts season 2, but there's just nothing else worth the time!

      • Watched S02E01 of Colin from Accounts and we were disappointed!
Season 1 was a cracker, S2, certainly got off to a very laboured start.

Man if HBO stole a lot of content from Binge, then Binge must be utter trash as HBO was the biggest pile of steaming crap that I have ever paid for, thank god they refunded me!

      • +1

Binge is utter piece of trash - my mrs wanted to watch somehting and we signed up, and it was a wasteland.

    • What’s mine is not yours to give me - HBO

  • +30

I am so over the split of all the services.
The great thing about the early days was you subscribed and you got most content, like Spotify.
Now you need 12 subscriptions to watch everything at $20 a month (if you want ad free and HD).

The studios are pushing people back into piracy :(

    • +5

      Was always going to happen.

Either consoom less or steal more.

    • +4

Stremio and never looked back, and what's silly is the quality seems to be much higher than any of the binge, netflix, stan and co services.

    • +1

Pre-streaming Foxtel looks pretty good in hindsight

      • +2

No, it wasn't. 15 years ago I was paying $100 a month with adverts every 10min.

Now with three streaming services I pay way less & no adverts with heaps better content.

        It was terrible.

        • If you want the same coverage for live sport that’ll be $100 easy on its own now.

    • +4

      I hadn’t pirated for over 5yrs…

      Back.

    • Aye aye captain. Sailin the seas is the way it shall beees and always has beens

  • +3

Still overpriced for sub without ad. Not much content left !

  • +3

all the good shows gone now, still too expensive considering it's not even nearly as good as iView

  • +5

We have the basic Netflix plan, everything else is 1 month then cancel. No one has enough content to stay permanently subscribed. And the hit rate of a good show or film is 1 outta 10.

    • +2

Similar Mine is a yearly Prime sub (sorta mandatory with the amount of Amazon shopping)+ $7.99 sub off my brother in-laws acct.

    • prime & apple at least can bundle with other benefits so more worthwhile keeping all year

    • Prime: $13 a month for ad-free, with arguably as good shows as netflix and the occasional good movie, plus includes Prime fast shipping (plus a selection of sometimes-ok free games, free books, free music, etc)

HBO Max: $15 (currently) with arguably better movies/shows than Netflix.

Netfix: $25 for the 4k plan.

A month of netflix a couple of times a year is plenty to watch everything. If you want to keep one streamer all year round, Prime is probably a better bet, or HBO while it's in this current promotional discount phase.

  • +4

Not even if they paid me.

  • +5

Such a poor quality product and that's before you even consider the content.

  • I would renew for this price, but I can't as I've got an existing annual subscription. I tried cancelling that and they offered me 50% off a monthly sub, but when I tried to claim that it wouldn't apply as I don't have a monthly sub currently (so incompetent), so I just cancelled my sub.

  • So not worth it, and I say this as someone with six months left on my plan. It appears to me they don’t have any agreements left with major distributors so all they get are the leftovers bits that other streamers haven’t bought. The only show worth watching that I can remember is the jackal.

Thank you to the ozbargainers who introduced me to Stremio + RD.

I am now paying it forward :)

    • +4

No idea why people still give money to all these different services when you can set up stremio in max 30 mins as a newbie.

      • +1

I currently use plex shares, rd and usenet.
But I still use the legit services (usually via shared sub). They’re better for families, being more useable and reliable.
Suggestions for what to watch go deeper into the catalogues than just the current top 10 etc. There’s also no issues with subtitles, especially hardcoded ones.
Definitely a fan of streamio and similar options, but none of them are as refined as the big streaming services.

      • -4

When i said rd+stremio like a yeae ago, i got flamed by the people who were 'not going to pay for pirated content when they can do it themselves with plex'

      • I was honestly happy to pay for content when it was a reasonable price, but all these streamers have gone completely off the deep end with their pricing which has driven me back to the high seas.

      • Can I get live sport like Formula 1, NRL and Premier League with these services?

I want to be able to start watching from the beginning when the event is halfway through. So I can skip through the boring bits/half time.

    • +1

Is there a beginners 101 on how to get this setup?

    • is a vpn needed for streaming off tv?

  • Binge sucks but damn that's cheap tbh

  • i just went to cancel my 3 months free deal as it was ending at the end of this month, and was offered 50% off for another 3 months
not the best content but have been watching true crime shows so took the deal, will cancel after that deal expires.

  • I got the $5/month plan on a special price last year. It's not been too bad, just found Foyle's War (British drama) so have been watching that. Ads are pretty terrible on tv shows, but hardly any come up during movies. Content has been ok for $5/month but won't be renewing. One major issue I've had with the service is the terrible audio quality - poor levels and mix even when compared to Prime (which is also sketchy).

  • +7

Warning. Buyer beware. The ads in basic are terrible and become more frequent and longer the more you progress through a show and eventually destroys your will to live. Also customer service atrocious trying to unsubscribe frustrating at best.

  • +1

I had 6 months left on a $5 per month deal and cancelled. After the HBO split it became useless.

  • I agree. Binge is trash. However at $4 p/m v $78 p/m for basic Foxtel, for essentially similar linear channels, I can see its value for people who like channels v on-demand content. Add a Hubbl device (another trash offering from Foxtel) and you basically have Foxtel functionality at a fraction of the price.

I want to know who is still paying $78 p/m for Foxtel basic. That's criminal.

  • +4

Heads up for anyone signing up, you can buy the Hubbl 15% off gift cards from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/919339
and apply for payment to save a bit more.

    • +1

      Cheers bud! 🍻

Binge Premium ain't that bad for mine no ads, 4K content plus 4 screens.

  • +3

Left binge years ago after service-stopping technical issues, followed by border-line-aus-consumer-law-breaching customer support

The fact that they lost the only content that was worth subscribing for is the cherry on the cake

      Same here

  • They're getting desperate for users since losing all the HBO stuff…

  • Can’t be targeted because I heard a radio commercial today for it. I agree with everyone of you are going to do it do premium not basic at a minimum you don’t want foxtels appaling ad machine breaking your stream, but ultimately you don’t want this.

Was on a discount watching CSI at a good pace and the seasons drop off without warning (thanks Max maybe)

Some good movies, live cnn. Music video channels are back. Last week tonight for now, selling houses Australia…

  • +3

I wouldnt toucht it for two reasons. Firstly thier content is average. Second and more importantly they make it really hard to unsubscribe, I detest services that do this.

    • +1

      This. Unscubscribing tactics are woeful.

  • Still dining out on my free 12 months Binge deal with Kayo subscription. Agree there's not a whole lot of good new content but for someone who never watched Walking Dead I'm not minding that.

  • Can you use cashrewards cash back on this offer?
