Here is a review given by USB-C guru Nathan K.

tl;dr: EXCELLENT. Overbuilt/over-specced charger. Has IR drop compensation (hooray!). Provides 45W Power Rules compliant USB-PD, not just 30W as printed. But suffers from unadvertised "Split PDO" at 20v, .55 PF could be better.

  • How do these compare to Blitzwolf?

    • I haven't tried the USB-C port properly yet, but the other ports I find are better. I have a few really picky devices (ie Chuwi Hi10) that require voltage stability, this charger is one of the only ones I've used which ups the voltage really well with higher loads to ensure a stable ~5v. With a 1m cord my tablet can pull 2.4A @ 5.11V (at the port), basically a perfect 5v at the end of the cable.

Other chargers can handle the higher amps, but up their voltage at weird intervals so the tablet stops pulling more power and doesn't even test if it could pull the full 2.4A while maintaining a decent voltage… Result is usually it charges at ~1.7Ah @ 4.8V thinking the power supply can't handle more, when in reality if it pulled just the slightest bit more (ie 1.75Ah) the supply would bump up the voltage again and it'd be able to get to the full 2.4Ah.

tl;dr: PowerIQ > Power3s. Anker has better voltage regulation.

    • Anker are a reputable brand known for high quality cable/charger, but this also comes with the higher price tag.

This charger also has a USB-C charging port, which is useful for devices such as the new Macbook

  • Can someone tell me if this supports quick charge 3?

    • No, it support USB-C PD, not QC3.

      • This one:

        http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/263083087347

also has QC3 but less ports.

I don't know how much I can trust this.

          Look at their box.

          It says "DESKTOP QUICK CHRAGER"

          @lostn:

What's your point? What else should they call it?

I have one and its just like the one posted here (except as noted above). It works as described and charges my Switch, Dell laptop and my phone via QC3 (or quick charge over USB C).

Its a premium piece of kit.

@gadgetguy: I think he is referring to the fact that the word has been mispelled. A trait typical of lower end chinese products.

        • -1

@gadgetguy: Typos on the very front of the box leave a bad impression. I would forgive it if it was an instruction manual but if they didn't even bother checking the box, it makes you wonder how much quality control went into the products themselves. It reeks of IDGAF.

I was tempted to get one, but now I've been frightened off. You don't get things this basic wrong and not notice it.

        • @lostn: Oh I see, fair enough.

Looks like that's an old / out of date pic. Here's my actual box:

          http://imgur.com/a/PxlFK

Anyway someone asked about QC 3 and I thought this might help.

        • @lostn:

          It's fine. I have one. It's a good adapter.

  • How to get AU plug?

    • +6

You can get a figure-8 cable from Officeworks.

      • Done, thanks for the help. Any recommendations on USB-C to USB-C cables? The JUCX01 that's recommended by Nathan K and Benson doesn't ship to Australia.

        • That's not the OzBargain way……… Steal it from an old laptop charger/Playstation/printer ;)

        • +1

@dyl: I realised I have one in my box of cables ;)

$29.99 for an Apple one (only USB 2) or $39.99 for a Belkin 10Gbps USB 3.1 at Myer etc.

I've got some of these on order, if you can wait 4-6 weeks. Or select epacket for fully-tracked delivery in about 2 weeks:

        • @dyl: What Playstation includes a C-C cable?

        • @lostn:

          PlayStation 1 and 2.

Sorry, I wasn't clear… I was still on the topic of figure 8 cables - replied to wrong comment lol

So this won’t work with MacBook Pro right?

Will I get any benefit using the USB-C to Lightning cable on a 12.9” iPad Pro? Currently using Apple 29w one but this would be useful to only need one charging device when travelling

    • It does charge MacBook Pro (2016), but not as fast as the higer wattage charger comes with MacBook Pro. The same can be said to iPad Pro.

      • Cool. Useful in emergencies then

    • Works well with MacBook Pro 15" (2016)

    • It is not ideal for Macbook Pro because of the following issues:

      • While some people are happy that it can do 15V @ 3A, it is in fact not within specs of the adapter.
      • It is known that it struggles to go 20V.
      • The lack of reliability of the USB-C port on the charger.
      • It will not charge using a MacBook Multiport Adapter.

For Macbook Pros, the Apple 29W charger is mainly a backup / emergency charger. Normally, you would use the 87W or the 60W charger.

      • It charges my Thinkpad at 20V/2.25A just fine, as good as the built in charger. It was marketed as only 29W because only Macbook was available with USB-C at that time, but specced at up to 45W and conforms with PD 2.0.

Benson Leung approved too (see questions section):
This charger follows the new Power Rules from USB PD 2.0 to supply up to 45W to the Type-C port, meaning it provides the following combination of voltages and max currents : 5V@3A,9V@3A,15V@3A,[email protected]

        • My main concerns are all Apple/Mac related. Not able to work with multiport adapter is an issue for me. Some people found that it won't fast charge iPad Pro 10/12. 45W out of USB-C is not enough for me anyway, even if it is safe to operate this adapter at 45W.

As for 29W, I've got some Apple original 29W chargers at a discount (GoodGuys were clearing them and they were priced lower than this). I don't have PCs/laptops that need USB-C. The PCs/laptops I have with USB-C port still use a different adapter for power. Only the annoying Apple Macs I have need USB-C PD at the moment. Android phones are still on QC, which is not compatible to USB-PD.

The USB-C port reliability issue people reported on these is also a concern. At least with Apple products, I can go to an Apple store and get them replaced. I've replaced two lightning cables already. Had to post items back to Amazon a couple of times. It is time consuming and a bit annoying. The replacement items I received from Amazon were poorly packaged.

  • I have one of these. It's great. Charges my GPD Pocket and Macbook 12" too!

    • Charges X1C gen 5 while on but slowly..

These are like the BMW's of USB Charger world. They were tested by some group to have the highest safety features/rating out of all the chargers on the market. Miles above the chinese ones.

    • +8

      Miles above the chinese ones.

Anker is a Chinese brand ;)

      • oh? thought it was American

"Anker was founded in 2011 in California, the brainchild of a group of friends working at Google.
Fast forward a few years, we’re now the industry leader in mobile charging—empowering the lives of millions of people around the world."
        https://www.anker.com/about

        • Started by a former Google Engineer in Cali who moved to Shenzhen. Majority of their workforce is in China.

It's not uncommon for a lot of Amazon brands to look American when they're not.

  • I have one and it is great. Charges Macbook 15" (2016) like a champ. I use this when working from home, even under load this doesn't skip a beat. It also charges phones, tablets, etc. really quickly via regular USB.

  • Shame it’s only 60W, not higher (since the 15” MacBook Pro takes 87W)

    • The USB power delivery seems to be rated at 45w, 60w is the total for the unit. I'm hoping to use it as a 2nd charger for my Macbook Pro 13" which requires a 61w apple charger so will see how it holds up. Judging by above comments on it charging 2016 Macbook Pro 15", this should do 2017 13" unit just fine.

You might find the same for your 15" seeing as it uses the same kind of output as the 2016 15" Pro https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201700

      • The official rating for the USB-C port on this charger is 29W. It does run out of spec and allows 45W on that port. It is a personal preference. I am not a fan of an adapter that runs out of specs like that. Also, people have indicated that it doesn't fast charge iPad Pro 12/10 - basically Split PDO and iPad Pro 12/10 won't go 15V it seems.

More ports, while convenient, does mean the charger outputs more noise.

  • I have one to charge my laptop and as pointed by others, it's the best quality charger. I bought another one 2 weeks ago and have just asked Amazon to refund the difference, thanks OP!

    • They are willing to refund the difference? I tried recently and they now refuse to refund the difference for any shipped item.

      • Not always, just try a different rep. But they will only refund as credit nowadays.

        • I tried two already, same result. No credit despite I have yet to receive the item. The only option is to return it and purchase it again, which is quite annoying (too time consuming).

You can definitely find cheaper ones on ebay. I got this voxlink branded one the other month, it's working perfect so far. Only supports QC2 atm though.. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/PREMIUM-Voxlink-6-Port-USB-Chargi…

    • That's like buying a micro USB cable for an iPhone. The Anker is USB-PD which uses Type-C and charges more quickly and powers Macbooks.

  • Anyone received the wrong item? I received this instead.

    • Same - Amazon have refunded me but now the price has increased by 50%

Interestingly the sticker/barcode on the outer packaging referred to the correct product for so must be a mess up somewhere!

      • Yep, same with my packaging. Amazon's refunded me, but I'm not sure how I'm going to get the charger at the discounted price.

        • It took me a lot of complaining but in the end they offered me a $16 credit. But then they wouldn't allow me to use it to re order as it was a sold by Anker item.

More complaining and I got them to agree to refund me $16 and provide free express shipping

    • Yep same here :(
