Recently Emirates introduced seat booking reservation payments… unfortunately this means that you may pay a fair bit more than the $60 saving to book the seat. The reservation is per seat per person per leg and until 48 hours from flight when check in opens (eg Sydney- Dubai 1st leg Dubai Europe 2nd leg) As a full fare carrier I was surprised that they introduced seat reservation fee as I travel Emirates every couple of years to Europe (Qantas and British do the same now I think).

Of course you can wait until 48 hours before flight time and take your luck finding seats with no surcharge.

Damn. This could be added to the "cost of having kids" question. A family of 5 going on a multi-leg return trip (almost anywhere from Australia) would almost cost the price of a ticket…

      • appalling policy. I don't have kids but this sux…not only do you end up paying premium holiday ticket pricing now you get this. Just a form of gouging and is unnecessary

      • My family and I travel regularly and I have NEVER paid to have seating assigned so we all sit together.
However, we have always sat together anyway.

        • We didn't pay, and got lucky and got the last 3 seats together on the return leg…

  • My experience with Qatar airways is far better than Emirates. Cheaper tickets and better service and more comfortable seats
