  • the description says:

Workout Coach: get real-time guidance and workout data such as recovery time and Vo2 Max. Note: Ensure that the SIM card is clean and dry, and that it is properly inserted. Otherwise, the watch performance may be affected.Your watch only supports standard nano-SIM cards.

so? 4g or not? is this the sport or classic?

    • +1

This is the Bluetooth-only variant. The LTE models are not sold in the US.

    • +1

It's the sport version. That text is the only reference I saw to a sim so would safely assume it's only Wifi as that looks like generic blurb. Added bonus if it's the 4g version though :-)

    • 4G version is substantially more expensive:

      $399 USD..

paid $400 a few months ago, don't regret it heads off to try his luck with coles mastercard price protection :)

edit: grrrr "If your purchase goes on sale within 24 months at the same Australian retailer, we’ll refund you the price difference"

    • +3

That sucks. On a bright note however 24 months price protection seems like an amazing offer! Might be tempted by a Coles mastercard for that as well. I think my ANZ card is only 3 months

      • I've had good experience with it so far. Annual fee just went up though

        • Coles has annual fee? When I got it years ago it didn't.

          When did they introduce it?

        • @lostn: there is a no annual fee one and a charged one
The charged one is going from 59 to 89

      • I put the price protection claim through anyway and just received this:

Thank you for contacting us in relation to your Price Protection claim.
Based on the information you have provided us, your claim has been approved.
We have made a first and final payment of $164.66 to your account representing the benefit for the item that has been reduced. Your claim has now been closed.

        Coles Mastercard FTW!

        • Win! Great outcome

Damn it, spent an hour thinking why I shouldn't buy one and couldn't come up with a good reason. whips out wallet

    • +2

      same..on the fence..

    • +2

Buy first, justify the purchase later. That's what I did.

      • +1

Damn. just bought one. Cant resist the price…:(

        • +1

I had been eyeing that item since it first dropped to 221USD. I got really close to pulling trigger 2 days ago but didn't because I got distracted by something else. Today, I got notified of the price drop to 181USD. At that price, it was a no-brainer.

        • @albert0pia: thx mate. too good to resist. :)

Damn you op I want it, but no one rule of OzBargain is pay you CC off in full;-)

Tempting but nah. I will wait for Shopmonk's $249 Gear S3 Frontier deal

    • Spent $400 on my very pleasing purchase of a Gear S3 Frontier about 6months ago, never looked back, being able to swap the bands is a huge bonus too, being able to change to a nice metal one or alike when you go out.

.. But, I really think you'll be waiting a while to see it go for ~60% under RRP.

  • Great price. Wish I hadn't bought my gear s3

    • Why do you wish that? This is by far inferior, not in my opinion but everyone elses I can find with a search.
If you changed directly from an S3 to this, you would instantly be able to feel build quality differences.

The only advantage here is the wifi ..or the 4G if you pay the same as an S3. You really only need bluetooth, the watches are built to be complimentary to a phone and when used in this fashion, attain the best user experience.

        I'm using a Gear S3 after upgrading from a Sony Smartwatch 3

I have a lot of issues with the Gear S3 that could be better. All are software related
        - Constantly loses connection with my phone (Xiaomi Mi 5 - could be better with a Samsung phone)
        - S Voice is basically useless - voice recognition doesn't work for the majority of people, whereas Google Assistant on Android Wear is really good and you could reliably text with it.
        - Samsung Pay doesn't support my bank whereas Android Pay does
        - Very limited third party apps (No Shazam, which I used to use a lot in the car listening to the radio)
        - No native navigation support (Need to use a paid third party app that only works sometimes - again, Google Maps on Android Wear is great for driving)
        - Alarm decides when it works
        - Rotating bezel is a gimmick on the main menus as you still need to use the touchscreen to open anything
        - Can't set HR monitor to run continuously unless starting a fitness routine

The hardware of the Gear S3 is however great
        - Looks really good. I have mine on a STAIB milanese mesh bracelet - photo
        - Click wheel is fun, if not very useful
        - Great battery life
        - Great high density screen - looks better than Smartwatch 3 by a lot
        - Takes standard watch bands
        - Has a speaker, which is great when I want to be obnoxious and play music from my watch
        - Lots of sensors

I will also comment that Find your Watch is really good and it always works. I don't think that's a feature in Android Wear and I'm a person who can't find my watch pretty often.

All in all this would be a great watch if it were running Android Wear, but unfortunately let down by its software

        • +1

Agree with all the s3 problems + next to useless for gps tracking runs/rides

        • I think it really depends on how you intend to use it.
I'm now using a Gear S3, I've previously had a Pebble and three Android Wear watches.

          • The Gear S3 never loses connection with my S8 unless I'm out of range.

          • I don't use any voice assistants on my watch, so no idea how they are.

          • Samsung Pay works with my bank and is very handy. Sometimes Android Pay on my phone asks me to enter in a PIN when swiping, which wastes time. It's set to not ask for a PIN if the phone is already unlocked, but it doesn't respect that setting.

          • I don't find third party apps on my watch particularly useful as the screen is small. I just use it for notifications, so the smaller app selection never bothered me. I'd rather use apps on my phone.

          • I have a car mount for my phone, it feels safer glancing at my phone screen that's in my line of sight for navigation rather than look at my watch.

          • I've only used the watch alarm a few times. It worked perfectly each time.

          • I find the rotating bezel useful as you can scroll through messages without blocking the screen.

          • I don't use the HR monitor so no idea there.

          • Vibration is WAY stronger than all the Android Wear watches I've had.

  • Dammit, I bought one a week ago at $221 USD :(
    Waiting for it to arrive…

  • The classic is also on special at $286 USD… Hmm.. might be overkill, but I wanted the metal frame :P

  • I paid $331 last month at eglobal includes delivery DHL and I thought that was a really good deal now this one beats that one so I guess this is an excellent bargain. Unless you get the LTE from vodafone the overseas version only has
    2G - 900 MHz
    3G - 1800 MHz 3G - 1800 MHz
    3G - 2100 MHz 3G - 2100 MHz
    4G - 1800 MHz (B3) 4G - 1800 MHz (B3)
    4G - 2100 MHz (B1) 4G - 2100 MHz (B1)
    which is virtually useless here.
Compared to the Samsung Tizen Gear Frontier this is better, much lighter and allows Android pay.

I want rotating bezel…. If only..

  • Nowhere near the style of the first Huawei Watch. Happy to hang out for future models when they bring back the chrome and leather. This is just lazy aesthetic design.

    • This is just lazy aesthetic design.

Ahh, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You could say the first Huawei Watch was just lazy aesthetic design too - it's just round with strap lugs.

  • Is it sold out with this price?

    • Late for the party too… Oh well, saved me $250

  • Sold out? Would definitely had bought if I had of sen it in time.

  • Anyone know of a deal even close to this? Eglobal selling for ~$315 delivered. Wondering if I can do any better. Really disappointed I missed the Amazon deal.

    • I'd advise to set up a price alert and wait for a repeat of this deal

      • Pardon my ignorance, but what do you mean by price alert? Does Ozbargain do something like this I wasn't aware of? Or did you mean with Amazon?

Half tempted to just buy from Eglobal rather than wait…

    • Looks like you can still buy but shipping won't happen until September 9.

      • Where are you seeing this?

        • Gone again. When I checked earlier you could checkout at the lower price. No longer though.
