Wouldnt one gig ram be alittle weak for Android?

    • ah thats where the difference is. they usually have 2gb ram

    • +1

it's a tv box, so don't usually run multiple apps if watching TV.
I've usually bought 2GB versions of TV boxes for future android updates, BUT usually new version of android means new box due to CPU and hence older boxes go out of support.
the S905x seemed to be the popular CPU, not sure what an S905W is ?

      • 4K@30FPS (S905W) vs 4K@60FPS (S905X) is so far the only real difference I've seen (there may be others I haven't seen yet). Looks like the W is targeting the lower end (cheaper) market

also if you're going to run LibreElec (cut down linux that only boots Kodi media player) then fancy menus and/or large media collection sorting may be slightly slower with only 1GB RAM.

    • +1

Yep 2GB makes a huge difference. I would pass on this one.

      • Flagship androids havnt had less than 2 gig ram for a number of years, at the end of the day this device will probably be a throw away and see little support or upgrades in the future, where as a chromecast still receives updates for long after it has gone off sale, I remember my old chromecast one got updates with the new features right up until I sold it along with my TV.

  • That price seems to be in USD ($19.99+shipping)

    • Yes, plus $7.01 or more for shipping.

  • more info on S905, S905X and S905W chipset differences here - https://forum.libreelec.tv/thread/9759-choosing-a-aml-s905-s…

    • so many variants, which exactly is the best box to buy?

      • they all price very similar in that the extra gig of ram is about $11 and extra 8gb of flash is $10 more extra …….. and the jump from 905w to 905x is about $20 extra …

so most 905x 2g ram 16g flash are about $70 AU. also, some are supplied with AU power pack some with just travel adapter.

they all play kodi, netflix, you tube, iview, freetv etc. which are on the play store.

seems the decision is pay the extra $20 for a 905x because you want more frames per second in 4k …. or save the money because most of you content is 1080p.

i also have the xiaomi mi box ….. doesn't do iview or free tv sbs on demand etc via the play store

        • +1

No, but for the Mibox you can side load them for kodi,

        • I think a lot of people just want to buy it, plug it in, load apps from playstore and watch stuff.

Yes, there ways around many things, but a large part of the market (probabaly over 95%) are just normal consumers, they don't root phone, flash custom roms on their phones, and probably just want a TV box that runs the apps they want from the play store.

A bit like needing a PC to reflash TV boxes, lots of people don't have PCs, just smart phones or tablets and use work PCs for other stuff like resumes or Excel to work out their budgets.

        • how about showbox, is that app any good?

i ended up getting a USD$200 android DLP projector with 2gb ram from h96 (also has a battery to self power and powebank)

  • I like your avatar

OP,Don't waste your time and money. With the requirements that you have described, suggest going with MiBox at $75.

Do wise decision. Do you want android tv os or android mobile os? Android tv os has very very limited apps in play store with android mobile os has plenty apps in app store.
Just google fir the apps that you would like to use & check which android os has that all then choose from there.

I have mi box with android tv os & it doesn't have the apps I need in play store that I regularly use in android mobile.

I'm confident that most people who claim 1 gig of ram insufficient have never actually tried one . My X96 and my wifes A95X work fine with 1 gig. My Missus uses hers to watch downloaded movies,Facebook, Candy Crush etc. I use mine for watching illegal streams on Kodi, especially Moto GP on BT Sport 2.

They are a great cheap media player. We just use a wireless mouse instead of the remote control. Much easier to just point and click.

    • Got mine yesterday, model as stated on website. I have had several different types of units (Netbooks, Nettops, Pi's, Minix, etc) - must agree with mrfuffy that this box works just fine. That includes full HD and H265 stuff, smart little box that does come with Kodi 17.3 (albeit called something else), Netflix, etc.

  • If you go for the Mi Box (global version) you'll need to sideload apps or use Kodi Add-ons (if available) for things like iView as they don't have Android TV apps yet. Also remember that the Xiaomi doesn't have an ethernet port, you'll need a USB NIC adapter.

  • The proper au plug is a nice bonus. I dislike using the questionable adapters, I think this appears to be quite a good little box.

  • If your first criteria is to watch Chinese TV, then you might want to look for those that are made for this purpose that come with Chinese TV app. Normally the app locks the MAC address and has some kind of hidden authentication. Choose wisely.

Even the famous TV Pad has stopped, yes, there are ways to overcome the hurdles, if you have time to.

  • Has free shipping become unavailable? "Regular non tracking (Temporary unavailabe for high value order)"

  • The description doesn't mention Kodi so presumably not come with it installed. That's a little strange as most other TV boxes these days do come with Kodi?

    • I was wondering the time. I saw the Kodi logo on the second pic (on zapals website link). Not sure it means it comes installed or it is kodi compatible?

  • The price has been dropped to $20 USD dollars.

  • watch out for this mob. I just got received a far cheaper dated & useless model

    • And the A95X model just locks on initial screen.

      NOT GOOD!!

      • now they want me to root it and fix it!
