Prey (2017) PC Game - JB Hifi - $34

170

Cheapest price ever for this game - including all prior sales. Previous low was $37.69 (CDKeys) back in May, but this is a physical copy. I played the demo on Steam recently and this is quite a good game. Not a bad price for a game that's only been out for 4 months. Console versions are $39.

Price comparison:

Steam: $75.00 ($59.99 USD)
EB: $69.95

  • I wonder if this is based on the novel? The novel is about nanobots that reconstruct organic stuff like human bodies.

    • Sort of then. These do have augmentations for humans and while some are based on nanotechnology some are based on alien technology too.

Sorry OP i wouldn't pay more than $5 for this game.

      Cool story bro.

Not sure why you were downvoted, I think the game sucked, wouldn't even pay $5 for it.

      • +2

Apparently people's opinions dont count in OZB aanymore without being downvoted. Even though some information may be useful to people in purchase decisions. Not like he downvoted, but just making a personal opinion. We may as well not have any critical comments on anything anymore these days.

"Sorry OP i wouldn't pay more than $5 for this game" is not useful information that can be used in determining if a game is good or not. An explanation of why you wouldn't buy it, what was good and what was bad about it is though.

          @potplanty:

That's not why people were downvoting him though, only because his opinion didn't match theirs, how dare someone have a different view.

Other posts saying it's a great game without giving detail why aren't downvoted.

        • @Scab:

Just curious Scab, what didn't you like about the game?

        • @MrZ:

Boring enemies and plot, shitty maps (especially GUTS), the worst objective markers ever that literally lead you around in circles (yes I know, the game is better with them off), back-and-forth quests and horrendous load times.

          Complete disappointment.

  • The demo on Steam is quite large. Will give you a good idea of the gameplay and how it runs on your PC.

    • Demos… Demos… What were they again?

Seriously, though. I haven't thought about downloading a demo in years. It seems to me they kind of went out of fashion. Or cynical publishers started to avoid them as to not tip their hand and show consumers how much their product sucked.

      • Which is ironic considering ID forged an empire out of Apogee's shareware program

    • I should mention that the system requirements for this are quite high. I have a Core i5 3rd gen, 8GB RAM, and GTX 660 2GB, and the game ran quite slow on medium. It's pretty much unplayable. Lowering it to "low" helps a lot, but this turns off AA, which looks awful.

  • This is a pretty good game I thoroughly enjoyed it. Good find OP!

  • Nice, I will play this while waiting for Destiny 2.

  • One of the better games released this year on all platforms.

    $28 on cdkeys.com

    • Can't find it for some reason. Do you have a direct link? Thanks.

https://www.cdkeys.com/pc/games/prey-pc - can get an additional 5% off with the code you get from their fb page

        • Thank you

D'oh… should have checked that before making this post! $6 extra for boxed copy is definitely not worth it.

        • +1

@MrZ: that's not always the case, some people have smaller caps / shitty speeds

  • Only ever played the original from 2006. Still have the disc for that edition. How much different is this compared to the original?

    • Night and day. BTW you can use the CD key that came with your disk on Steam to get a digital copy too. That's what I did and now I have a copy there too.

      • +1

You realise that it's a steamworks game and there's no drm free variant regardless of physical or digital; it only activates on steam.

        • No I didn't because it was released in 2006 and I don't remember back that far.

        • @potplanty:

Oh, based off the OP's comment and yours I thought you were talking about the 2017 version, my mistake.

      • BTW you can use the CD key that came with your disk on Steam to get a digital copy too. That's what I did and now I have a copy there too.

Thanks potplanty. Didn't know you could do that. Although the original Prey is no longer being sold on steam. I was still able to register my PC retail Prey 2006 DVD key and add an installable copy (1654mb) to my account.

        • Yeah that's the only way to get it on Steam now. Buy a retail copy (eBay etc) and add the code to your account. Love that they did that.
