  • $10 shipping for 4x HDD.. not bad!

    • Anddd.. it's be limited to 2 per order, lol. Shouldn't have commented.

      • sorry guys, just been changed.

  • good deal. I bought 2 last time…

  • -1

    $125 7200RPM Hitachi at Fluidtek.

    Or MSY Samsung $117.

    • OMFG I paid $129 last week for Samsung at MSY. Fail :(

    • -1

Both are no good for AV the one listed above is the best for Audio / Video

      • How so? I've been looking to upgrade the tiring old drives in my home PC (on 24/7 to steam to the HTPC), why would I pick this drive over the Samsung? Or any other drive?

        • doesnt get as hot as the faster drives which means you can use it reliably for longer
also larger cache which helps with everything

for me i replace drives in pvr's and htpc's when they start crashing with these drives

      • Which one is actually best for A/V? Looking to hook up to Pana TV for direct recording

    • +1

So why do you need to quote other companies? Might as well list all of the cheap ones from http://www.staticice.com.au/

  • Is the model EADS or EARS? (4 platters or 3?)

    Darn. I did want 3 :(

    • ears

    • EADS is pretty much non-existent now, so its the EARS model or bust. Shame too cause I'd still prefer the EADS model.

      • Yeah - EADS are the best pick if you are using LINUX

EARS sometimes cause issues with Linux…

        • not if you align the partition properly

        • Why?

          • +1

@elitistphoenix: Something to do with Load Cycle Count. Some claim that 300000 is the limit (WD claims this drive can handle 10^6 LCCs). These drives "green" feature means it runs at low rpm and to make matters worse, it parks its head after 8 secs of inactivity.Inadvertently, this leads to a rapid increase in LCC, with some claiming that their drives have been bricked after 5 months.

There is a utility out there called WDIDLE3 which allows for you to disable it.

    • 64MB Cache - so its EARS

    • Well looks like you're in luck! According to the model posted below (which I can't confirm as the site is still down) it's a 3 platter EARS model..

      http://vr-zone.com/articles/667gb-per-platter-western-digita…

  • What is going on with the cheap hdds - sure the $A has risen, but are there SATA3 or large hybrid drives in the wings?

    • 3tb has been announced

Personally I prefer drives with 3 platters… 3tb (5 platters? Maybe 4 with advanced format?) could be prone to breakdowns.

    • Can't reach it from here either….

  • it's down fo rme too :S noo i really need this i hope they aren't sold out or something! their website is obviously overloaded

  • Site also down for me. Was about to order 2 of them aswell :(

    • server is down

  • Are these drives WD20EARS-00S8B1 or -22S8B1 version?

    • WD20EARS-00MVWB0

      • .< won't work with the qnap 559 pro.

  • Budget PC does a PricesSearch lol , now please do a ssd deal :)

    • You mean PricesEngine?

  • Site down. =o(

  • What would these be like in a NAS? I believe some Green drives are slow. Is that the same for these?

  • If only they presented proper 4KB blocks, not emulated 512B….then ZFS would like them ;(

  • Nice work! We broke the site lol.

  • Hahaha good job team =] Yet another site falls victim to the ozbargain onslaught.

  • hmm i just access it 3mins ago .. now it's dead lol

3% pay pal surcharge , no thanks.

    • Pay by another method then.

      • Even credit card has surcharge (2%), but atleast direct deposit is a free option..I thought companies werent allowed to apply a paypal surcharge?

    • Is the 3% surcharge a gamebreaker for you? Go cry in a corner.

  • Crazy prices, can't believe how easy 2tb is to get for under $130 now. PS I bought one of these a few weeks ago, for OS HDD in my media pc- BAAAD idea, frequent pauses going through every menu in media centre and so slow to load music playlist etc, now using it just as storage and its fine, wouldnt even know it was a bit slower!

    Good deal tho

  • Back up now, just ordered two hdds, $5.50 delivery, paid by direct deposit, easy done :-)

This seems a bit excessive as a postage cost for one unit to South West of WA. Can't believe this is serious so what gives?

    Road Express Courier
    - Warranty with Mount Waverley Shop, VIC Google Map $52.95
    - Warranty with Stawell Shop, VIC Google Map $52.95

    • hi riverman, the protage is calculated by the system. if you are living WA/NT. plz ring us for postage discount.

  • +1

Yea shipping kills the deal for those in WA.

  • Just snagged one. Great deal :)

  • the lenovo deal is good too

  • I got an old 500GB HDD that's filling up, is this worth a good investment?

    • +1

In terms of gb/dollar, no. The sweet spot right now is in 1.5tb's, you pay a fraction more per GB on 2tb harddrives, you have to judege whether the convenience of having a larger drive offsets that premium or not. Personally, yes i'd say this is a good investment (for data storage).

  • I don't see how this is a bargain. You can pick up a Samsung 2TB from MSY for $117

    • Because they have a pickup option as well, and i am not aware of a pickup charge so that means you save $8.00

You mean saving money isnt a bargain? or $8.00 isnt enough for you ?

      • I think he means 7% cheaper doesn't = bargain.

        • fair enough although really depends on the product and availability for some mor ethan 5% others more than 10%

        • the margins are pretty small with stuff like hard drives so every dollar counts :) Besides, when it's the cheapest being offered, I'd call that a bargain!

Also, should be comparing apples with apples (i.e. WD20EARS to WD20EARS not Samsung). Having said that, staticICE is indicating that these drives can be had for $118 at stores. It was $127 at MSY a couple of weeks ago and month ago I bought one from MSY for $138 + 2%.

Price is definitely falling… yay :)

  • EARS should be better in theory, I have 5 x EADS died within 3 months last year.
i hope my EARS will stay longer (touch wood)

    • +3

Stop buying all drives from the same batch for starters.

Spread them out across different batches and brands to minimise the chance of all of them failing at once.

  • Very happy, 4TB delivered to SA for $232.50 including delivery (9.95) and credit card surcharge 2% (4.55)

Wow, just over $58 per TB delivered to home, niice.

  • So are these no good as a main OS drive? Would the Samsung be safe and fast to use as an OS drive instead?

    • From what I've read, they are not the best because they lack speed and take quite a few seconds to come out of stand-by mode.
Personally, i would go with something like Caviar Black for OS drive and something like this one for data storage, but if someone disagrees or has better suggestions, please correct me.

  • Good to see Hardrive deals are back…Keeping going OZ dollar

  • Theres an "in stock" button but the text says "availability: out of stock"

    Ehhh?

Anyway, it was too hard to request shipping costs to 6000 so I didn't bother. If the system could have done it, I would have.

    • Yes… is it still in stock???

      • yes, still in stock, problem has been fixed.

  • Anyone had theres sent yet? Mine still says "Processing". If so did you get a tracking number or anything?

    • please sent your order number to [email protected], we will reply you asap.

      • Don't worry, the status just changed to Complete and I got my fastway tracking number. Thanks

    • Mine was supposedly sent yesterday, but I checked the tracking number and its gone to a different city and has been delivered to someone already in Adelaide. Hopefully I was just given the wrong number.

  • Would one of these be fine for Music and HD movies? (Also streaming to PS3) Or would I get problems?

  • Anyone know how long it takes to process an order? I decided to go with pickup since I'm close, and wanted to get it sooner. Order has been sitting as pending for a few days now. Should've just gone with courier if I knew I was still going to have to wait for days.

    • Normally it will take 1-3 days. Please sent your order to [email protected] Hope I could help you.
