    beat him by this much.

  • hmm not a bad deal. wondering if i could buy this as a backup for when our breville dual boiler heads away for repair…

    • What's wrong with it?

      • few leaks inside which would leave a puddle of water under the machine, plus the pump wouldn't kick in until 8-9 seconds into the shot and the steam arm was leaking.

all this after the official breville 2 year warranty expired but had the harvey norman extended warranty. had to send it off to sydney, it's been 3 weeks already :(

        • Ah we also bought it from a Harvey Norman and have had it repaired under warranty. Now the steam arm is leaking, however the warranty has long since expired.

Interestingly, twice our household managed to damage the portafilter. The thing was nigh on impossible to replace. Breville didn't sell it as a spare part, and the "compatible" portafilter we bought didn't fit properly.

        • Thought HN will replace it under warranty.

        • +1

          @sachy:
yeah but the whole thing sucks. here's how the extended warranty works:
          - you send the machine to sydney to be checked out
          - they call you after a week to say they got it
          - they call you after another week to say it's faulty
          - you decide whether you want it fixed (and keep the remaining warranty) or replaced (and forfit the rest of your warranty)
          - they fix (or replace)

they seem to be quite coy about the replacement / repair choice - as in they push you to chose the replacement but don't make it very clear that you're giving up the rest of the warranty.

        • @ideasman: thanks for clarifying

        • +1

yeah I've got a leaky pipe too. sometimes it leaves a puddle on the floor

        • @tith: Ewwwwww….

  • Added the bonus gift promo :)

    • Thanks :)

  • Nice price would you get this or the bes870 for 570?

Nice price would you get this or the bes870 for 570?

The BES870, without a doubt. Better machine and the built-in grinder is a pretty good one.

      • +5

        I'd slightly disagree!

I've owned the 6910, BES870, 920, and now 980 - dabbled with a few other models here and there… But I lust for my trusty old Sunbeam back. 2 reasons:

1: You can simultaneously pull a shot while frothing milk on the 7000, you can't on the Barista Express - if you drink big cups, like double shots or have friends, this is a big deal because otherwise you have to settle for shit milk or shit shots

2: The Sunbeam will last, the Breville will not - every single Breville I've owned (now nearly 10) has had some discernable fault, from leaks to dead solenoids to portafilter handles throwing themselves off the machine during use - my now 7 year old 6910 is still plugging away at my parents house.

To anyone reading and contemplating the Breville.. don't let me put you off! I find the Breville's much less temperamental to variance (grind, tamp etc) which may be a deal-breaker to someone who's buying as their first machine and doesn't want to be overwhelmed with a learning curve.

If you pick the Breville, get an extended warranty and keep the box! If you pick the sunbeam… Prepare to work a little harder for the same quality coffee as the Breville… In return you'll have a machine that won't give you any trouble for years to come.

Hope this is helpful to someone :)

        • Whats the reason to keep the box ?

        • @Stahh: Ever tried carting a massive coffee machine to a repair shop across town without one? It's much easier to pack back into its original styrofoam and packaging etc :p

      • funn you say that

my bes870's grinder just carked it so i was looking at this to replace as a dual boiler

        • +1

          Oh god don't do it!!

I loved my dual boiler don't get me wrong, but god it gave me troubles.

The first leaked out of the box
The second leaked 3 months in but not enough for me to notice until I touched the machine and it threw me to the ground
The third shredded it's group collar (not just the seal) at 6 months
The fourth I sold on gumtree a while back when I got a bit of a "feeling" about it…

Breville have been really great through the whole process to their credit, but when you spend $1000+ on a machine and grinder combo, no amount of good service makes up for having to lug it back to wherever you bought it, go without coffee for a few days while you wait for someone to "assess" the machine etc etc…

And really, your grinder packed it in?! There's a first for everything it seems.. very unlucky mate!

To be honest I'd be hard pressed not to recommend the 7000 to you, as a slight upgrade, slight sidestep.. doesn't have the same "commanding bench presence" of the dual boiler, but I'd argue it makes just as good a coffee, and I can't think of much I could do on the 920 that I can't on the 7000 as well (adjusting temps, times, preinfusion etc)… Just a thought :P

  • FYI i believe this is the older model, current one being EM7100. But still a good price obviously

  • Not so long ago this was released at $1,199 and even at that price gained very positive reviews. Mine was a steal at $600 and still very happy with it.

It comes with a proper group filter and a decent tamper, no more to spend.

    Good deal OP.

  • I bought one from jb in June and it started leaking there is a pool of water under it every time I use it, any ideas?

    • +4

Don't use it in the bath

    • +2

      take it back matey

    • +1

Group seal? I know may seem silly but is the drip tray empty?

    • Ours lasted 1-2 years and now has the same problem

    • +1

I had a similar problem. I cleaned the milk frothier with the included cleaning pin (use the bigger side) in the back compartment of the machine.

Put the pin the point of the frother, give it a good clean and that's what worked for me.

You might want to soak the frother in a cup of hot water for 10 mins or so to loosen up any dry milk.

You can always unscrew the tip of the frother.

Hope that helps, just try it :)

Once I did that I had no more leaks.

    • +1

This only happens to me when I use a cup that does not quite fit, meaning I remove the array to fit the cup, so the flush is what creates the puddle/leak under the machine. Make sure the tray is fitted properly, if still leaks then push for a replacement.
I absolutely love mine, this IS a Bargain!

  • +1

Oh WOW!!!! This coffee machine is so good. I have had one for a few years.

Such a good price that I almost want to buy another.

That way I can make a double double espresso. LOL

    • +1

We got the pre-predecessor to this model back in 2010. Still going strong…

      • +1

        The 6910??

Great machine. Stick with it….OR…..upgrade to this one and sell your 6910. You wont regret it. Plus get some dosh for your 6910.

        • UPGRADE…UPGRADE….UPGRADE!!!! :) :) haha

        • +1

@rendo: I really want a shiny new machine, but the 6910 just refuses to die!

  • Had this machine for 3 years and love it. I have 5 coffees a day on this a day only had to replace the water cartridge. Only difference to the new 7100 is that now supports coffee pods. this had duals so can do milk and coffee shot at the same time.

    • This has dual boilers?

      • nah it has a thermoblock

  • Anyone know where can get the pod group handle and if that would work on my 7000? Love to use all my old nespresso pods.

  • +1

What's the extended warranty cost? These devices are really problematic (heat/rubber). Consider extra warranty, but, check the ts and cs. A friend of mine got his replaced, New for old after 2.5years

    • I would disagree. Prob cause mine is never off and the rubber never gets hard haha

  • +1

I JUST bought the PU6910 (EM6910 combo with grinder) for $500. Myer 10% bonus gift cards FTW - to cover the sale price at $550.

By the looks of it, this is just a facelift model with the same/similar bulletproof internals. I needed a new grinder anyway, so I'm happy with the combo (and mentally valuing the grinder at $100).

If you want a combo with this one, then the Breville Smart Grinder is apparently the OzBargain community preference, found at $200ish on sale, as I understand it.

    • +3

I have this em7000 with the breville smart grinder.. couldn't be happier!

      • I have the same combo. Though seeing this gets me a little annoyed as I got my em7000 for $699.

    • You need a megaphone next to your 6910, the 7000 is still loud, but insulated and much quieter.

    • There's a thermometer on the steam wand tip to check your milk temp, which the 6910 doesn't have.

      • Its not at all accurate, I promise :p

  • Anyone know if the bonus products are sent via post?
I'll be on holiday soon so I'm thinking I might claim this when I get back?
Bonus offer is until 29.01.18 or until stocks last.

  • I want to buy this machine but we have a small kitchen and I don't want to bother having a grinder. I have heard as this model only has single wall baskets, that say Lavazza or Vitoria pre ground beans will make poor tasting coffee, anyone confirm that is true?

I get away with it now with my 800es due to using the double wall two shot basket.

    • Doubleshot baskets don't make your coffee taste any better. It just makes it LOOK better, with fake looking crema.

      • +1

The short of it is this machine is "too good" for the supermarket pre ground stuff. We only got the normal baskets with our EM7000 and the water just runs straight through pretty much, yuck.

At work I have an old 6900 which came with pressurised baskets (only a single hold at the bottom) but then get the worse problem of it all just essentially backwashing back.

        • Thanks. Seems like it'll be too much work for my willpower. I'm a borderline pod semi auto home, We get away with a 800es and make an okay coffee. I worry that if I buy a decent machine and grinder, my wife and I won't want to follow proper technique to make a better cup anyway. I have a hard enough time getting my wife to follow the order, I.e.heat, flush head, dose, tamp, pour shot, froth milk, flush wand, flush basket. Also this machine and the grinder would take up a huge amount of space on our bench. Plus during the whole brewing experience I would have a 2year old screaming at me "I want toast!".

  • Does anyone know when this deal expires?

  • Does this make a good first coffee machine? Would I just need beans and a grinder?

    • You would definitely need beans & a grinder.

Our last Sunbeam coffee maker lasted 10 years. It made ok coffee out of absolutely any ground coffee I put in it. The EM700 won't produce a single drinkable cup of coffee out of store bought ground coffee. But once you add a grinder and some beans - whoah, makes a damn good cup of coffee.
      Great machine at $400.

      • +1

Cheers for the tip appreciate it.

Currently now looking at this deal, vs the Breville Barista Express at $560 with 'PAINT'.. good days for my wallet.

    • Check out coffesnobs sample packs for great beans. We keep ending up going back to them regardless of all the other brands we've tried.

  • Awesome share, and bonus points for the extra's. Ordered mine!

  • Crazy price - I paid over $600 for mine a few years ago and was more than happy with value for money. They were going for 800ish before the new model came out (which only adds pod filter capability - no way I'd even consider using pods when you have a proper coffee machine like this)

  • What are the baskets like on this machine? My lower end Sunbeam Cafe Crema has unchromed 'bucket' shaped filters which makes getting the old grind out a PIA (I use a teaspoon to scrape it out). The Breville at work has chromed conical filters and the old grind almost throws itself out into the bin.
Wondering if either I should upgrade the whole machine to this 7000 or if the filters/filter handle could be upgraded on my old machine.

    • +1

I can't tell if they are chrome but I don't need to scrape them out. (I use to have a EM4820 which I had to scrape out every time)
The finish is very smooth. So smooth that if I use the wrong amount of ground coffee, the coffee puck stays on the shower screen when I undo the group handle lol.
It comes out easily into the bin, just takes a couple of wacks.

  • Tempted to upgrade from my old em6910 which has been going strong for a few years I actually purchased second hand too

    • Upgrade, upgrade, upgrade!!!
      Haha :)

6910 are bl00dy fantastic. Em7000 are super fantastic!!!
Sell your 6910 on eBay :)

I have the em7000, just in case you couldn't tell already

  • I'm another happy EM700 owner and, as others have mentioned, it can be a PITA to set up, but once done makes a great coffee.

  • This over the Breville any day.

  • Great deal. I'd be more than happy to buy, except that I already have the 6910 and it's pretty much indestructible.

  • Thank you OP .
Picked mine up today and it makes great coffee . Have been making do with a pod machine for the last 6months after our old $1000+ machine died
This makes great coffee , I'd forgotten how good coffee can taste .

  • Thanks OP! I've ordered one as well :)

  • Bought, will pickup tomorrow.

    • I think you barely made it in time, GG said the deal finished on the 8th. You did well

  • Anyone else getting this error?

"The promotion code you have entered is not available at this time. Please try again later."

  • I think the code expired .
