Does it support Netflix 4K? That's the real question 😅

    • +1

      Yes

      • Does anyone know of a test method to check Netflix resolution? YouTube has Stats for Nerds

        • +2

Plugin a keyboard and press the F4 key. It will show the resolution at the top-left of the screen.

    • +1

No HDR at the moment though last time I checked.

  • Will foxtel app work on this

    • No, you will need to use the cast feature on the device from Foxtel app on your Android device

      • Why can't you side-load the apk?

        https://apkpure.com/foxtel/au.com.foxtel.Go

        • Tried. It doesn't work. Crashes straight away. Also had trouble casting foxtel now to the device for some reason

        • @thesoxman:
PM me your L:P and I'll try it ;)

        • @Steptoe: Are you suggesting you've managed to sideload Foxtel Go on the MiBox?

        • @thesoxman: No, don't subscribe, so can't test. Wiling to help a brother out though.

        • @Steptoe: Thanks for the offer however I've already tried sideloading (as have others) and it just flat out doesn't work

        • @thesoxman:
Casting is possible if you don't need to change the channel once you start casting

      • can you flash android tv on this?

        • it HAS Android TV OS

        • @Steptoe: oh is that because its the intl version?

the other xiaomi boxes i have used all come preloaded with this chinese xiaomi skin that doesnt even have a bloody browser

  • Will portable bluetooth speaker works with this? (I am not using a TV but a pc monitor)

    • Yes but there is some delay. If you're playing back though something like kodi where you can adjust the audio offset then you can compensate for this (which is how I use Bluetooth headphones with it).

    • It's got 3.5mm out. You'd be better off hooking speakers up to that if possible.

Just a small word of warning I had issues having my mi box working with the router telstra supplied me. Only solution was running another router as a bridge.

    • No issues here running 2 boxes wirelessly off a Testra supplied router (VDSL).

      • Just mentioning. It was a Telstra Gateway Pro ADSL2 connection. I've got another at home that plays fine with my netgear router.

  • Probably been asked plenty of times, but want to be certain. As replacing lagging WDTV media box.

    1) Does it play content off HDD without any issues?
    2) Catchup up streaming such as Stan work well?

    • +1
      1. No problems. Got mine set up with Kodi and it plays everything I've thrown at it so from from my NAS
      2. Stan works well as it has a native Android TV app. Channel 7 is the only station with catch up service for Android TV. The others I run via Kodi's Australian TV catch up plugins which work well.
      • Hey thanks for replying.

I've heard of kodi but have never used it. I use Plex a fair bit, is it the same or is it it's own media software that allows it to play lots of content?.

        • It's similar to Plex however they differ somewhat. I believe that Plex started as a fork of XBMC and from their they've gradually deviated from each other. That said if you use Plex you shouldn't have any problem setting up Kodi.

      • Does Stan streaming 4K with this box?

  • Sorry this is a silly question - What does this device do? Is it like an apple tv?

    • +1

Maybe Apple TV is like this.

    • No, nothing like an Apple TV because people buy these (no-one buys Apple TVs :) ).

Basically, you plug this into your TV and you can use it to stream media from the Internet to your TV (think Netflix, etc), plug in a hard drive and play media from the hard drive or connect to media servers you've configured on your home network and play media from them.

      • Thanks :)

  • Good price, but I'm still waiting on the Australian power cord that was promised from the last time this was posted as a deal from Gearbest, which itself took aaaaages to ship.

The device is amazing for the price. Got mine set up running Plex and streaming from an old N40L HP server.

    • Xiaomi don't make an Australian power pack for it
So you will be waiting a long time …..can buy generic AU power packs on eBay.

      • The Gearbest rep on here told me that they would be sending me one (generic obviously) because I waited so long. I even got an email from them when I threatened to cancel my order saying that they were sending out an au adaptor. I'm just whinging about GB and how slow they can be

  • +1

I bought a mibox and found that the chromecast is not very stable.

  • Does an attached hard drive need to be powered or can you attach a portable one (e .g. 2Tb)?

  • +1

I cancelled my GB order after waiting 4 weeks saying still processing, paid 6 dollars more for an Aussie seller on eBay and had it in 3 days. Will never buy from Gearbest again !

    • +1

Care to share your ebay source?

  • can we connect wirless keyboard and mouse? also how about light gaming (card games, matching the cubes type of games to run?
