geez below the G6 …. ouchtown population HTC … lol

    • +1

Lol. That reliable source. I was going to look at GSMARENA and others, but instead I will look at a poll with about 100 people voting for the phones they own.

      • I don't think Scrimshaw was meaning it to be relied on when making a purchase decision, he was just pointing out it's ranking on the pole.

        • +1

But what value is that poll? It just says how many people own what phone

        • @OnlinePred:

I'm guessing the pole was produced so that there isn't so much clutter in the forums about which android phone to buy. People don't just vote on what they have, but what they think is the best, in theory.

        • @doweyy:

doweyy is correct. A poll is just… well, a poll, it's not an In-depth tech review.

The polls are a starting point for discussions.

        • +1

@doweyy: so they would have bought all those smartphones and be able to choose their favourite?

If they haven't bought them all, then they are just going for the phone they spent their money on

  • Anyone would pay over $700 for it?… I would invest a bit more to grab an iPhone or a Samsung instead.

    • I'm thinking of a little less and going for op5 with 2 year warranty

    • +3

Maybe you can't stand Samsung's software overlay?

      Maybe you don't like iphones?

Maybe you like the add ons that HTC add to Android? Could be a lot of reasons to get this phone instead of the iphone or the Samsung.

      • -2

Nah not many. If you liked stock you would get Pixel, if you liked hardware and software features you would get Samsung. If you wanted cheap you would get OP5. HTC U11 is really only valid buy if around $600, otherwise many better phones out there.

Lack of headphone jack, massive bezels, only slightly waterproof.

Maybe if you really only wanted a HTC, then yea you would get a HTC. Otherwise not so much.

        • This phone also has a better camera than the iPhone or S8, and the speaker quality is higher as well. Not to mention this phone is already a lot cheaper than the competing iPhone and S8. There really isn't a better phone at this price.

        • @ccsvchost: Not at this price point, but it's a weird price point. $100 less and you get OP5, $100 more and you get S8 which is better.

Also this phone is one of the biggest 5.5" phones out right now in the flagship range. It's bigger than OP5, S8+ and Pixel XL. Given it's also HTC, quality will be an issue. Also if appearance matters to you, then the U11 will be very low on the list. I think either way, I would save money, or spend more rather than get the U11. (HTC10 owner here, also S8/Pixel XL/and maybe getting an OP5 soon)

Also U11 only has LCD, which has lower brightness than S8, and doesn't match the quality of the display.

Also OP5 speaker gets much louder than u11.

even here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a_F_8QFRWuc&t=123s final comment is spot on what I said.

        • @OnlinePred: Not sure where you heard about the louder speaker on the op5, but GSMArena measured the speaker volume on both devices and the u11 has the slight edge. Also the U11's speaker sound quality is much much better than the op5. And if you're bringing up quality, then the op5 is out the question.

        • @ccsvchost: Yea quality the U11 is better for sure, but loudness the OP5 wins (ringtones etc).

Also camera samples are generally better on GS8/IP7, even though the U11 got highest dxomark. Which shows these benchmarks mean nothing these days.

        • @ccsvchost: plus it's faster than the S8!

      I did, at launch week.

      No regrets at $950.

At Around $700 is a steal

      • Why would anyone Neg me spending my money on this phone????

        Poor use of NEG!!!

I've had mine for about 6 months now and rate it highly. The headphones have been the biggest surprise - the sound quality and noise cancelling is much better than I expected. The sound quality from the speakers is also great. The only real negative so far has been trying to get the brightness just right using the auto adjust, but I've never been particularly impressed by this on any phone. The bezel is slightly larger than many, but it's something you become accustomed to quickly.
