Help finding a HDMI cable (4K @ 60hz running 10 meters or longer)

Hi,

I'm trying connect my PC to my 4K TV and output at 4K @ 60hz with a HDMI cable that's 10 meters or longer. I've verified to have this working with a much shorter cable connecting from my GPU (GTX 1080 ti) to my Sony 4K TV on 3840x2160 at 60 Hz with HDR enabled on Windows 10.

Anyone know where I can source one locally? or even online? (preferably with recent Ebay sales). Most of my search online seems to offer vague descriptions of their HDMI cables.

Thanks

Monster brand from Harvey Norman. Should be at least $200
(or so the sales people would have you believe)

On a serious note, anything that states v1.4 is fine. Or maybe v2 or v2.1

    Check staticice.com.au

For cables that is not relevant. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/242526

The only change in cables from HDMI v1.3-v2.0 is the addition of the Ethernet channel which I have not seen any device making use of.

Any high speed HDMI from v1.3 up should work ok for 4K@60hz if it has been constructed properly, many are not.

HDMI v2.1 does introduce new cables for higher resolutions and refresh rates i.e 4K@120hz, 8K@60hz.

        • Ah my mistake

10 m is a long way, super cheap cables most likely will be crap.
Once you go that length they get up in price.

    Try Selby or Lindy cables.

    http://www.selby.com.au/cables/hdmi-cables.html

  • As above. I have bought HDMI cables from Selby and Lindy and they are good quality cable.
Cablechick also sells up to 20m 4K capable HDMI cables. The 15m was/is quite popular, I have one run in my roof space.

This page has a good explanation of what to look for.

Here is a cable from Veniton on eBay from a reputable seller (99.6%).

  • For longer runs active HDMI cables are a good option, redmere cables can be found at reasonable prices http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/122482993119

  • Thanks for all the reply guys. Gonna go with Vention on Ebay since they explicity said it was 4k @ 60hz. The others such as Selby don't specify what the max refresh rates where. Lindy ones seem good but a little out of my price range.

Just reporting back. The Vention HDMI cable also maxed out at 4K@30 and not 4K@60.

      • That's weird, have you tested the devices at both ends of the cable?
You are completely within your rights to get your money back if so, false advertising and such.

I will add that in my experience, all the cables I have used that needed to be 4k60hz were hdmi2.1 (Just by chance due to supplier), not sure if 2.0/2.1 makes a difference there but it's something I noticed reading the thread.

        • Only tried on one end but i don't imagine that would make a difference. How did you know your cables were hdmi 2.1?

        • @frankfu1122: I should clarify for your benefit that 2.0a is refereed to as 2.1 generally and that's what I know mine is (2.0a) and the reason I know is because a friend that works with fibre optic cables made it for me :P (Don't go looking for those unless you want your wallet to shed a tear, they are very application specific due to pricepoint.)

        • @dfaktz:

Ah right, fair enough! I've heard good things about fibre optic and i'm tempted to get the Ruipro .. $279 though :(

          https://www.ezyhd.com.au/shop/ruipro-hdmi-fibre-cable-15m-4k…

        • @frankfu1122: Thats an amazing price for a 15meter fibre cable..

        • @dfaktz:

I think the $279 was for the 10m and $299 for the 15m.

How much did you pay for yours?

        • @frankfu1122: Well, its not a good comparison cause I got it for less than anyone else in the supply chain would.. I only paid materials, about $100 for 12.6 meters (to size). I specifically needed 8K.

I did message my friend though and he corrected me about 2.0a being called 2.1, that was a bad assumption of mine, he said true 2.1 is barely being sold retail yet(even 2.0b has barely any devices that are native so far), if at all. He said HDMI2.0 (HDCP 2.2) should be completely capable of your 4k@60hz needs.. Suggested taking it back and going with someone else.

        • @dfaktz: Fair enough! Thanks for the info. Yep already returned the Vention cable, Ebay Seller was happy to provide refund, just had to pay postage.

    • TV doesn't support displayport

  • We used a Chrome cast Ultra on one of the hard to reach TV's

You can now dock it so you can display your entire screen without being in a browser

We have a decent network at home and it's been flawless TBH way above what i expected from it and it's connected to a 4K UHD Sony

Bought it to trial something at work, they made a mistake with the price @JB $64 so i paid for it, once we had proven what we needed at work, i took it home and let them buy it at the more expensive price.

Paid for itself just in the work to get cable from point A-B drilling holes in walls etc.

Try it you can always take it back

I use dual ethernet cables with these passive adpaters at each end to my projector.

Probably a HDMI Fibre Optic 10m and over for 4K@60Hz like Ruipro, gets rave reviews on Amazon but not cheap.

  • I've bought cables from these guys - really good quality for the price. Worth paying a little more when considering a long run - I went cheap initially for a 10m run from receiver to a projector on the ceiling, and found I got noise. Replaced that with a cable from them. Perfect.

    • Did you buy that particular cable? I'm looking for a 10m HDMI for connecting a Yamaha receiver (RX-V2073) to a BENQ 1080p projector (W1090).

  • Yes - a few years ago so expect it has been updated since, but 10m Saturn. Use it to connect my Yamaha receiver to my 1080p Epson projector. :-)

  • How'd you go OP? Did you try Selby or Space HiFi?

    • Hi,

Not going with either Selby or Space HiFi, I don't think it will meet my needs of 10m AND 4k @60hz. I might try the recommendation for the Ruipro but it isn't cheap. I will report back when I get around to ordering it and trying it out.

      • Your choice, but specs on the Space HiFi seem to meet both of those requirements…..

      • Check if any stores near you have the Astrotek Redmere cable it may be worth trying, quite a few stores stock it https://www.google.com.au/search?q=%22AT-HDMIV2.0-MM-10%22

      • Did you get the Ruipro? and how was it?

        • hey mate, haven't got around to buying it.. hoping for a further discount haha..

OP - in my research, I came across the Comsol 10m cable from Officeworks - apparently it has confirmed to do 4K @ 60Hz on WP. Also the Ezyhd cable says it will do 60Hz at 7m.

I just need a 1080p cable at this stage but to give a little bit of future proofing, I’ll probably get the Comsol or the Space HiFi Saturn.

Before going the Ruipro, Officeworks would be an easy return process for the Comsol cable so maybe try it?

      Link - http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2581235

Or search for ‘10m hdmi’ on Whirlpool.

    • Thanks for pointing this out champ, although the Officeworks link doesn't explicity specify that it will output 4K @ 60HZ :( I wonder if Officeworks will warrant a refund in such case?

Might give it ago anyway before jumping onto the Ruipro

      • They should.

Just ordered Comsol 10m cable from link above. Will wait and see how it goes and will report back.

      • +1

Reporting back. Comsol 10m from OW doesn't render 4K@60 hz although 4K@30 seems fine but not what I'm after.

      • +1

        Will attempt to refund this.

      • +1

Office Works happily refunded my purchase.

        • Reading your comments thread in 2021 lol, You must be an expert now in HDMI's. If you still active, whats the recommendation now from experience?

          • @deals4amar: Haha. I bit the bullet and bought the Rui pro. Costs me an arm and a leg but it got the job done.

            https://www.ezyhd.com.au/product/ruipro-hdmi-fibre-cable-15m…

I hope you find a cheaper alternative though. 4 years ago it was the only one I could find that ticked all the boxes for me. Hope the landscape has improved since then.

            • @frankfu1122: Thanks for responding, feels like I just time travelled, a blast from the past :) . I read it an ATM and leg for some reason hehe…
I was searching through for a good HDMI and it seems they're either too expensive or not reliable. There are a few good recommendations, like Monoprice or Comsol. I'll do some more research before I go down your path. Appreciate your help.

  • Just ordered Comsol 10m cable from link above. Will wait and see how it goes and will report back.

  • Its said the Comsol to 10m from OW is OK for 4K@60 Hz above that HDMI Fibre Optic is the way to go.

  • Link not working, which one?

  • Did anyone instal the Ruipro HDMI fibre optic cable?
