What is Quick Charge 3.0 and VoltIQ?

Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 technology is 4x faster than conventional charging and up to 40% quicker than Quick Charge 2.0. It typically charges a compatible device from 0% to 80% in 35 minutes. It achieves this by increasing the voltage from 3.6V to 20V with 200mV increments. This technology is backwards compatible with Quick Charge 2.0 which is capable of charging a 3500mAh battery from 0% to 60% in 30 minutes.

VoltIQ is suitable for devices not using QC (iPhone, iPad, Raspberry Pi etc.) as it will charge much quicker than conventional charging up to 5V/2.4A in each port simultaneously.

No AU plug. Anyway good on you for getting us a deal

    • +3

Sadly not, but it does take a Figure 8 cable which people usually have lying around. Surprisingly I get a lot of requests for the EU/US versions.

      • Hi clear, thanks for the deal, do you have any idea if this is going to run-out fast? Just not at home at the moment and wanted to confirm I have a figure 8 cable laying around in my boxes before I brought it.
I didn't know that cable was universal for the products that use it, well.. I guess if it is going to run out fast.. Do you know if the cord is usually in Coles/Woolies electronics isles?

        • Officeworks has them.

        • @xoom: That'll do as a backup, okay ordering the hub, thanks xoom.

        • i ordered 5 cables off ebay as many chargers use them.
took 3 weeks but was cheaper than office works and i needed more than 1.

      • Could just use a travel adaptor too right?

        • Yep that'll work too.

    • +1

Pliers works well for US plugs.

      • yes they do so i also prefer us plugs to eu plugs

  • +5

I have the quick charge 2 version of this. Still plugging away after a year.

    Can recommend.

    • Ditto, have had mine for almost two years.

  • How does quick charge compare to USB-C?

    • +4

QC is the changing standard, usb-c is connection.

      They aren't comparable.

You can have QC for both type c or micro usb, or neither.

      • Thanks, I've got an iPhone - so I'll opt for neither :-(

  • -1

Any deal for Xiaomi Mijia Wiha Screwdriver?

  • does anyone know if this will work with the new iPhone's with fast charging?

    • Quick charge is a qualcomm standard and will only work on phones with a qualcomm chipset (iPhone doesn't use qualcomm)

It'll probably charge it faster than really old ones but not as fast as the qc3 standard allows.

      • thanks!

  • Charging a Raspberry Pi is unusual, but charging one quickly must be good!

    • Raspberry Pi 3 requires 2.1A minimum, preferrably 2.4A so you do need a high-end power supply.

  • Is there an android app that allows me to see if quickcharge is working properly? I already have one of these, but get the feeling that the QC port goes to normal mode if another device is plugged into the other ports. Eg. with a Samsung S7 on QC port and Tablet on a normal port, my S7 charges real slow. If I disconnect everything else, it charges alot faster. Using the app "Ampere" doesnt show input voltage, so it's just a "hunch" at the moment.

Edit. I left this 5 port at work and bought a Tronsmart Titan (5 port all QC) which doesnt show the same issues with charging speed on multiple devices.

  • Will this fast charge Galaxy s8 at 3.0?

    • I'm pretty sure the s8 only does 2.0.

    • +2

Aus Galaxy S8 is Exynos chipset so it does not support QC3.0.

It does however support adaptive fast charging which is basically similar speed to QC2.0

      • +2

Correct. Samsung's Adaptive Fast Charge is basically QC 2.0 rebranded. The only difference is it has fewer voltage levels, so it's not as fast as QC 2.0.

  • Just wondering, do you guys ship this to Indonesia?

    • Yes.

  • Thanks, ordered.

    Also got 3x USB-A to USB-C cables (CPP9) for $8.99 US…seemed like a good deal?

    https://www.geekbuying.com/item/Tronsmart-3-Pack-CPP9-USB-A-…

  • Coupon code doesn't work. I get:

Sorry, this coupon code is applicable for some specific items.

    • Only works for EU and US plug.

      • Thanks!

  • Thanks Op, grab one

  • Guys, be aware that only 1 of the 5 ports has QC3.0. I am not sure if Tronsmart has released one that has 5x QC3.0 ports or not.

Personally, I think the Tronsmart Titan, with 5 QC2.0 ports, is better value at US$28.99. I bought one a few months ago, and it is great! Perhaps OP can do a deal for the members here.

    • +1

i only use the qc port for emergency as it heats up the battery more and shortens its life span ….. so 1 qc 3 is handier than 5 qc 2 for an emergency charge when phone is flat or low and you need to leave home.

high temperatures and battery life don't go together.

    • Unfortunately that's located in the Spanish warehouse for European customers.

  • do these work as a data hub as well?

    • +1

      No

  • Is the Quick Charge 3.0 port equivalent to the Moto G5 Plus Turbo charger?

    • +3

Yep, this charger will have no issues charging at the same rate (/potentially faster) compared with the Turbo charger *using the quickcharge port.

  • +1

Awesome. Been waiting for this deal. Thanks Clear

  • Hi guys. Do you know of any charger with 2-3 ports that havs qc 3? Thanks

    • Not on sale right now but i have this.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/305125

      2 of the 6 ports are qc3

      • Thanks, I ended up grabbing one of the 6 ports for US$21.73

Create a new account on Aliexpress to receive the $4 off coupon from the initial popup (and don't forget Cashrewards).

The one above comes with EU cable, but there are other sellers around the same price with the option for US also.

        • Just grab any figure 8 power cable with your choice of ends. The charger i bought had a US plug which i changed to an australian plug. The cable i took out of a dvd player.

        • Thanks

      • I have this, the QC3 ports are good but I find the Ai Ports to be very slow. Irregardless of device (i got a couple of older and modern phones including Note 8), it outputs at 5V-1.2A max. Not sure if mine is defective but I wouldnt recommend.

        • So that would theoretically be the same for the original item posted?

          Unless yours is defective…

        • +1

          @John Kimble:

Im referring to @xoom's comment regarding the Aukey 6 port charger.

Every brand has its own "smart current" technology, Tronsmart has VoltIQ, Aukey has Ai, Anker has PowerIQ. In terms of current stability, most people will agree that PowerIQ is probably the best out of the 3 (Anker is also priced the highest). I have an Anker multi charger. Every device I have thrown at it is charged at a faster rate. And the voltage is extremely stable, you dont get so much fluctuation. I bought an Aukey charger as a backup to use in another room and the performance has not been great.

        • Not sure if mine is defective but I wouldnt recommend.

The first ports are rated below for their output.

          Output 1-4 (AiPower Adaptive load): DC 5V / 9.6 A (2.4 A Max per port)

You are not sure yours is faulty. So you conclude by telling everyone not to buy one. Sound logic and reasoning. Can't argue with that.

          /sarcasm

        • @xoom:

QC3.0 ports are working fine, all other Ai ports attempts to find the correct voltage and amp combination before stabilising at a particular watt which is much lower than advertised. It feels like it could be Aukey's ai port technology is just wonky and not good. I'm not someone who just plugs in a phone and if it charges, I conclude to recommend the product. I did real world tests and provided actual numbers in my feedback.

I'm sure you would have come across some products that doesn't work as intended. You would probably still recommend them I guess. Sounds logical.

        • @KaTst3R:

I'm sure you would have come across some products that doesn't work as intended. You would probably still recommend them I guess.

Someone asked for a 2 to 3 port charger with qc3. I happen to own one that has 2 qc3 ports which served my purpose. It has been happily charging my numerous gadgets. Phones, tablet, headphone, powerbanks etc. Hasnt burnt the house down. So working as I intended as far as im concerned. So i recommended it.

You might find this hard to believe but when someone asks for a charger with 2 to 3 qc3 ports more times than not they may not follow it up with thats great but have you taken a voltage tester to it?

It feels like it could be Aukey's ai port technology is just wonky and not good.

See when people makes these types of comments the onus is on them to prove so. Not defending aukey here. Just standing by my recommendation.

How many types of aukey chargers did you test to come to this conclusion? Its not helped by the fact you said yourself you are not sure if your charger is faulty. Not saying one way or the other if it is or it isn't. You have to prove either way.

          TL;DR

Peoples definition of not working as intended differs.
When they suspect something is faulty they should either find out if it really is. That is test the same product or same product line.
When someone makes sweeping comments specially negative ones about a particular technology have data to back it up with.

        • @xoom:

Just fyi I did have data to back it up thus my comments about not recommending this charger.

I wrote in to the seller and presented all my findings with picture proof of the voltage ampere readings regarding the 1A output vs orginal Samsung adaptive fast chargers and the conclusion was that the port is "just a normal charging port " and working as intended.

The QC ports are certified but not their in house Ai ports. But that doesn't mean Aukey can overstate its performance capabilities.

Brilliant. Why dont you take some readings of the charger before you continue to make such sweeping positive recommendation for your falsely advertised products.

      • Thanks

  • Just ordered. Will be taking this to Japan (US plug) and is the backup power source for the Switch and other devices. Fingers crossed it goes OK.

  • I chose registered airmail (15-30 days?), as same price as the default (30+ days?). The options for faster shipping were quite reasonable especially compared to auspost).

  • I have ipads, iphones and some no name power banks. I understand that all of them doesn't support QC3 so I won't be able to utilise the best function of this charger.

Does anyone know how much faster VoltIQ is compared to the standard chargers that came with the devices?

    • +2

iPhone charges are normally 5V/1A and iPad chargers are 5V/2.1A while VoltIQ goes up to 5V/2.4A, so it'll definitely charge your devices quicker.

If your iPhone is below 6 then the maximum it'll get is 5V/1A from the charger. Power banks will definitely charge much quicker.

  • thanks! got one!

  • +1

Are there any good quality retractable charging cables that would go well with this??

Feel as though it would get quite messy having 1m cables hanging of this device.

    • +2

I like the TronSmart cables because the ends are slim and rounded which can make it easier when the device has a case. There is a TronSmart 6 pack (1ft1 & 3.3ft2 & 6ft*3) on special for US$7.99, but I really want 5 * 30cm (1ft). A couple of 60cm cables would also be nice but I'm not sure that TronSmart make those.

Possibly if people up-vote this post, @Clear might notice and organise a deal.

  • +1

Thanks clear. Didn't need it but got one anyway. I have a portable charger tronsmart and hasn't failed me yet.

  • Ignoring quick charge and slow charge and all the other jargon

If I plug lightning cables into this - will it charge an ipad and iphone??

  • What was the other charger we got? Which is due to send soon

  • With these chargers, does it mean you can use any micro-usb adapter? Or are they to be specifically used with the Q/C cables?

    • Technically there is no such thing as QC cables. Any microUSB should do.

    • +1

I don't know the in and out of the USB cables. But from my own personal experience, not all MicroUSB cables supports fast charging. All the cables that comes with my Samsung mobiles certainly do. But I have a few random ones that won't trigger fast charging.

      • But thats the thing. I have a micro usb cable from a really old phone. Talking non smart phone. Lent it to a colleague who used it to charge a galaxy s7 and it was fast charging.

      • It's all about the wire gauge inside. QC also uses the data wires to negotiate the charge rate, but the power wires need to be thick enough to handle the current.

A good quality old cable will quick charge fine.

A cheap and nasty cable will probably have trouble passing more than 500ma, quick charge or not.

Problem is USB cables rarely state their wire gauge.

  • very good deal. Would be all over this if the QC3.0 slot was USB type C.

  • Any cheaper ones with just qc 2? (4 fast and 1 qc2 is good)

    • +1

      Yes

      • Great, thanks.

  • +1

now its 23.34 after code :)

  • Mine still hasn't shipped after 9 or 10 days. No luck contacting them either.

    • There was a week long holiday in China so they'd be going through the backlog. What's your order number? I'll follow up with them directly.

      • No worries, week long holidays sounds awesome. As long as mine is not lost thats fine. Will send the order number through PM. Cheers.

  • I tried to buy but got a message saying code has expired.

  • Still haven't got mine. Tracking says it has been in Australia since the 10th of October…from Singapore.

    • +1

Would be somewhere between customs, Auspost and your house. Shouldn't be too much longer.

  • Got this last week. Charges real slow. This charger is not 2.4A per port. The 2.4A is more like the total output. More devices plugged in means slower charging per device.

    • 2.4A is the max current each VoltIQ port can do. The 4 ports are 36W so you could get 3 ports doing a total of 7.2A simultaneously without any drop.

It's also possible that your device doesn't support an amperage that high.
