Telstra T-Box Deal Will Give You $300 Worth Of Free Movie Downloads

115

If you’re thinking about getting yourself a T-Box DVR, it might be an idea to wait until November – Telstra are promising a special Christmas promotion that will gift you $300 worth of movie downloads.

Considering the box itself costs $299, that’s not a bad deal at all. We’re still waiting on more specifics – whether or not there’s an expiry period for that credit, and when exactly the offer will be available, for a start – but in any case, buying a T-Box this month would be a wasted opportunity for free stuff.

From the Giz article this should go live next week!

MOD: Updated 3 Nov. Deal is alive on Telstra's website and I'm updating the link.

Telstra are PROMISING a special Christmas promotion that will gift you $300 worth of movie downloads. …. not a bargin if its not active and may or may not come true

that $300 worth of downloads could be restricted in many ways for e.g, given only a few months to use that credit.

    Will always hate Telstra.

They ripped me off bad in the days before the ombudsman and decent competition. Customer service was like speaking to a Soviet work group. Unhelpful/unpleasant and they would just hang up if they got sick of the call.
They are only imitating niceness now because they are scared of losing their market share.
    Frack 'em.

That being said, the new CEO is really making an effort and they are improving immensely in a lot of areas.

    not current = no bargain

…and $300 of TELSTRA dollars…not real dollars. Save the $$$ and buy DVD or blurays

PS3god, also note you have put two deals up, both T-Box. Quite the fan are we?

…and $300 of TELSTRA dollars…not real dollars. Save the $$$ and buy DVD or blurays

$3-6 to download and watch the movie from telstra or $20-30 to buy the DVD. I dont know why I would want to buy the DVD

PS3god, also note you have put two deals up, both T-Box. Quite the fan are we?

The T-Hub is not the same thing as the T-Box

ew , where do u buy ur dvds from ? myer ? none of the titles i see on the telstra site are THAT new… in fact most can be picked up in the 15$ or less bin at jb…

        • It's still $15 compared to $3 - $6!

      • +4

ohhhh, im so sorry. i didnt realise you OWN the movie for $3-6

Hey, i have an idea. Im going to start a store where i BUY movies, and let people BORROW them from me for a day at a time. I will also require they submit to random cavity searches, and leave loved ones as collateral.

T-Hub, T-Box, T-phone….all smells like telstra to me gag

Why would you want to own the movie and pay 5-10 times the cost of renting it.
If you want to watch it more than once it is still cheaper to rent the movie again.

    • I am actually.. half the price of tivo with more features… who wouldn't be..

i dislike the rest of Telstra's crap, but the device is great

  • $300 Tel$tra money = Itchy & Scratchy money ;)

Speculation is hardly a bargain. This should be reposted if the deal is announced.

  • it's more of a heads up, but yeah i agree, a notice like this is more suited for the forum

  • here we are…

it is $300 to use towards movies download (new release movies cost a little bit more then ones that have been around for a while)

You could use this to watch quite a few free movies; New release movies cost $5.99 to rent for 48 hours on the T-Box, while old movies cost $2.99 or $3.99

At $3 a movie you could watch 100…..
or at $4 you could watch 75
or at $6 you could watch 50.

Also the $300 voucher lasts 3 months, so that would be 17 a month or 25 a month or 35 a month depending on the cost of a movie.

    LUCKY TELSTRA DOWNLOADS ARE CHEEP!

  • Agree - not a bargain until actually active.

We got T-Box 2 months ago and it's pretty good. Much rather going to our local video store on a Tuesday for $1 rentals though. Will have to wait and see if ones such as us that already have T-Box can get this deal, as this is the first deal since it was released.

    • Well I disagree. How annoyed would you be if you bought a t-box now when this is more or less confirmed.

It's not as if it's going to clog up the site or anything - there are hardly any deals posted on here. The equivalent UK site gets far more deals posted in an hour than this does in a day.

No need for a tbox, channel BT is all you need! All of Telstras gimicks are FAIL!

I have alot of Telstra services and will cancel the lot soon because they want to try and recontract me if I want to get any discounts. Stuff em, i will go elsewhere. Been a loyal customer for 10 years and if they wont give me discounts after that amount of loyalty, i will leave.

    • +1

They don't go very far with offering deals until you actually leave. After you leave they will ring you over and over and offer you things.

      • haha thats so true

  • Two really bad things about the T-Box -

    1. Does not record 2 channels despite having 2 tuners (big fail - basic function of a dual tuner PVR). The better ones can record 4 channels (from 2 broadcasters) while you watch a recording.

    2. Ties you to Bigpond as an ISP so the box will function (downloads & EPG). No bad thing at the moment with their 'catch market share' pricing, but what about when that ends?

      re: point 2

Also, isn't the government saying people will have to go with the NBN for our internet, when it rolls out? (or pay a large fee to be allowed to use existing services away from the NBN)

  • only about 50% in Tassie are taking up the offer to go onto the NBN, which i think is a fail right from the get go, and it's still being rolled out!

  • +1

The reason only 50% accepted having it connected was simply bad information. I'm in Tas - I reckon they did not make it clear that connection is free - and if you want to be connected later you (or your ISP) will have to pay $300 to connect. Bigpond could be a user of the NBN, so the NBN is not really a factor in the T-Box issue.

  • Is this deal available if you purchase the T-box outright? (as I already have Telstra bigpond internet and phone but this may only be avail if you sign up as a new customer?).
