How to Put My Point in Front of Managers for Fair Distribution of Overtime

Hi… I have been working full time hours for last four years as a casual employee…At my work place other permanent employees are getting regular overtime while i have been given overtime rarely. So i want to discuss this unfair distribution of overtime and among employees with my manager…

So how can i put my point forward..what i mean what topics should i discuss to support my argument…

one point i want to discuss is Few organizations specifically state in their Enterprise Agreement that 'Management will try to fairly distribute overtime"… If anybody knows some organisations where Fair Distribution of overtime is an official policy.?

Or any other way i can support my argument?

Thank you for reading…

You are casual. Wouldn't your casual overtime rate cost the company more than it would than for the permanent employees?

I know at my work, Permanent employees have priority over casuals with overtime.

Sounds like you should arguing about being transferred to permanent from casual.

    • Yes… Both…. I will argue (1) why I have not being offered permenant position.. (2) Why I have not being offered overtime while others have been offered regular overtime. But I need some arguments to support my point.

What does your works EBA say? It doesn't matter what other companies EBA say

        (2) Why I have not being offered overtime while others have been offered regular overtime.

If it was my work, you would be told because you are not permanent and EBA states permanents must be offered OT before casuals. Again, check your EBA and/or union rep.

Be careful how you put your point together - Manager will much prefer an employee saying "I love working here and passionate about what I do here. I would like to be make this a career for me and would like to seek your advice in terms of the things I can do to become permanent here".

Overtime conversation has to follow after being permanent !

          Agree with cheapsticks
Don't go with a "my argument" mindset

        • this approach is much more likely to achieve what you want

  • Company normally dont pay for overtime to permanent stuff,at most time in lieu, some just expect premanent to be working overrime without paying.

So how can you argue that to get pay to work overtime vs not need to pay for premanent stuff for overtime.

TBH you just lucky you could get pay for overtime.

" I have been working full time hours for last four years as a casual employee"

Aren't you way ahead already? 40 hours a week for 4 years @ Casual rates puts you ahead of your permanent colleages over the same period even with overtime.

op as a casual employee should still be getting ot under an award.

I'd have to be offered the standard ozbargain wage of 200k a year before I'd even consider it.

    • Agree. I struggle to do my 20 hours some every weeks.

Depends, are you a quality employee?

Last thing you want is to approach your boss over this and they just say it's because you're not good enough or proactive enough etc etc.
