Good deal. Cheaper than buying a new map for my old tomtom one.

      Yes, that is the model.

  • How is this compared to others? Never used one before.

    • +2

All tomtom devices are very similar to use.
If you have used one tomtom before then this will not look very different.

Compared to other GPS devices tomtom remains my favourite.

      • thx

    • got one, was $178 when it first released last year or so. very good, long battery power, easy to use overall one of the best buy i ever had. go for it at $98

  • +5

Three exclamation marks in the title, must be a good deal!!!

    • I agree!!!

  • Cheapest price I could find was $109 @ DSE. So this is a good price.

Anybody know how much internal memory/storage space this model has?

  • +4

This is the older 1st generation TomTom start.

There is also a newer 3.5" TomTom Start 10 model. @ $179 RRP

The new Start 10 is mostly identical to last year's Start, with 2 key upgrades: The inclusion of full-screen junction view graphics for highway intersections and freeway exits, and lane guidance for most multi-lane roads.

  • Has anyone used this particular model before? Any complaints/recommendations?

    • Meant to be positive vote. My fingers r too big for touchscreen lol

      +1 to this particular model

    • +1

I have used this one. On the plus side, it is quite easy to use, re-routes (if you take a wrong turn) very quickly rather than ask you to turn around. It also tries to predict where you should be in tunnels where you don't have GPS reception.

However, watch out for the Easyport mount. I had a lot of issues with it as it kept losing suction and dropping the GPS on to the dash, especially when making sharp turns. No lane guidance, but then I've personally never found that feature too useful. The other issue I had was that each time I updated the TomTom software, it would reset some of my preferences , and I would start getting directions in Afrikaans.

      • Thanks. Can I also ask, how long does it take to lock onto a satellite?

        • Depends on how recently you have used the GPS. Normal time is 60 to 90 seconds, but if you have used it within the last couple of days, it does it in 10-15 seconds. When I gett off a flight, it takes 2-3 minutes to figure out it is in a new city.

      • I read a review somewhere that it doesn't have a function to allow you to avoid tolls and freeways. Is that true?

        • +2

Whenever you type in a address, it will prompt to ask you if you would like to avoid tolls. However, when it auto-recalculates routes due to your deviating from the set route, it can push you onto a toll route. Has happened to me a couple of times, I'm not sure why.

        • Thanks for the info!

        • +1

You can also tell it to never take toll roads so it will never ask you and never take toll roads

  • Awesome deal. Was 188 in the beginning of the year.

  • Have a quick check at harvey norman for the price on this. It was $80 over the weekend at H.N fyshwick

    • was it just a weekend special?

  • +1

Sold out at officeworks online + Big W Eastgardens :(

    • Try the DickSmith price match :-)

  • Harvey norman will also do price match, will only sell at $97.

  • Is this the newest release?
    As per http://www.cnet.com.au/tomtom-start-10-339306537.htm

Can't see model number anywhere so it's a bit confusing :/

    • As I posteded earlier. This is the older 1st edition start on Clearence. Not the current new start 10.

Read the DSE price match terms and conditions. Being labled Clearance model on Officeworks web site, so doubt they will price match. But should be able to price match Big W if you can find a store with stock. Not sure about HN price match policy

Anyone else think this is $98 at OW so they people can't use their lowest price guarantee? :p

just wondering is this model come with latest australia map ?! or it just come with old map ?! cause it seems a really gd deal if they provide the latest map !!

    • That information is written in with the deal information at the top of the page

      Latest Whereis Australia map
      Latest Map Guarantee

    • Given that this is an old model, it will most likely come with an old map. However, with the Latest Map Guarantee, you can register the device online and download the latest map for free from the TomTom site. There is a time restriction of about 3 months (from memory) from registration to download the latest map.

      • Map guarantee is for only 1 month.

  • currently unavailable!! tried to get it online this morning 26/10, but it said "currently unavailable" which mean all stocks might be gone!

  • Got one at Big W online yesterday, but forgot to post my thanks, to you!
I was looking for a basic, cheapie. Brrrmm brrrmm:)

  • Officeworks have a mio moov A350 for $86 for those who dont like the TOMTOM
    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Mul…

  • Got one at BigW Mirrabooka in Perth just then, all my local stores had sold out and Mirrabooka wasn't that far and seemed to have around 8-10 in stock.

Can't wait to get it started up for the parents.

  • Hey how does this compare with the older model? The Start 140 seems to have IQ routes and lane guidance.

BTW these are great devices, I've owned two. I wouldn't spend any more on a GPS as they are so easily stolen.
