  • Ooooo! I am so angry now… I paid $179 for the 1TB on Friday at OW (It was selling over $200 at most other places)

I think the main reason for the price drop is the new USB 3.0 ones are now about to hit the shelves…

    • when is usb 3.0 gonna hit the shelves?

      • dunno, it's already on their website and i got an email from then last week so it should be any time now…
        http://www.wdc.com/en/products/Products.asp?DriveID=879

i'd expect that the USB 3.0 ones will go back to the higher prices though…

        • Are the USB 3.0 ones any good to users like me who only have USB 2.0 ports in our computers?

        • yes, the usb 3.0 ones are downward compatible so you can still use on USB 2.0 pc's…

if you get a new motherboard or a USB 3.0 card, you'll get approx. 3 times the speed…
(almost as fast as an internal disk)

    • Can you return it and re-purchase at the lower price?

      • i've already copied my old 500GB disk onto it and have thrown out the packaging unfortunately…

      • could just buy another one and return the new one with the old invoice.

        • thnx… that occured to me on the way home… will do that in the morning..

    • they have a 1 week grace period where you can get the diff back if prices drop within a 1 week of purchase, just go back with you receipt to get the diff…

      • that would be great, is there a link on their website for this ???

        • i have done it before in store and store people have mentioned it a couple of times in the past…

        • ok, thanks, i'll bring in my receipt tomorrow and ask them…

  • This is so tempting. I wonder if there will be better deals if I wait another month?

    • the USB 2.0 ones should be as cheap or cheaper as the new USB 3.0 come out to replace them…

i expect the USB 3.0 ones initially will be more expensive than this..

  • +1

    Woohoo!!!

Got my $30 refunded and used it to get $40 iTunes Credit from Myer and got MyerOne points on top too..

    thanks Jaymz for posting this…

  • Question:

I'm thinking of purchasing either this or the desktop 3.5" for notebook backing up purposes only. Does anyone have a recommendation? WD 3.5" or this WD 2.5"?

    Regards

    • 2.5 is more expensive, the idea being you're paying a premium for portability. You need to decide whether that premium offsets the personal satisfaction of the portability. If not, just get the 3.5
