  • Is it have to mount on wall?

    • Yes.

  • I got mine during this promo: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/183771

Still going strong, but had to replace fittings because they broke.

  • I'd get a couple, curious how durable are they, would last a year or two?

Mine has lasted a year mounted to a West facing wall. Was used daily to spray ice off two car windscreens.
Very happy and will get another one for the back of the house.
When retracting it sometimes needs help to push the hose back in because it just doesn't have the grunt to pull by itself.
Also, don't leave it under water pressure. Disconnect the hose each time.

Oh yes. ^ This. My hose burst while I was on holiday. My neighbour has to jump my fence to turn the tap off, but not before the tap has been on for a day or two.

Could you just turn the tap off instead of disconnecting it?

  • Thanks OP

    Hi,

Any idea if you can open it up and put a decent hose in it? I have many quality hoses from when I had a large property and would love to stick them inside a retractable hose reel like this.

    Cheers

I have thought of the same. From my examination you just need to make sure you put the mechanism back properly.

  • I got one and am pretty happy with it.

Have had one for about 3 years now, still going well. Hose is reasonable quality - doesn't easily kink etc.

Fugly colour, and you'd want to get a better spray gun - but otherwise a solid unit.

I have had an identical unit in the yard for a number of years now. Fully exposed to the sun and its only now starting to show signs of fading. Mechanism is still working fine. The attachments are plastic and after a while you will need to change them. I did at one stage try fitting brass fittings and could not do it as it appears that the inside of the house diameter is slightly smaller.

For the money i think its a reasonable product.

  • I must have had a very bad run with these. Three failed within 24 hours of purchase. Even Repco decided to pull these off the shelf until they could work out what was wrong.

Bad batch or just me using them wrong.
