Thanks, still using the Dick Smith/Sangean DPR-44 AM/FM/DAB+ Radio $29 bought in April, is this any better then that?

Same here, best $29 I have spent in ages!

      • i'm not happy that DAB seems to be like 80k mp3 so it sounds pretty terrible even out the 3.5mm socket.

but yeah $29, how can you go wrong

          Really?
I can't fault mine for the price.
I have it turned up inside and listen to it outside while in the garden.
The quality is not Bose equivalent or anything however for $29 it was a steal…

      • That was a doozy - mine goes on at dawn and is playing all day - sweet

Just looking at the pic, at least Panasonic opted for dot matrix text. Radios are far too expensive for what they are though.

I have this model. Absolutely love it, such a simply, easy interface.
Very loud and does not distort.

  • For anyone else looking, it's 12H/40H (?) battery life out of the thing. Seems good enough.

If new to DAB you really should try the Sangeans - this one http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Sangean-DAB-FM-RDS-Digital-Ra… (at the same price) includes a battery charging feature - so your eneloops get charged automatically. I can't comment on this one specifically but I have several of their DAB radios (around the house) and love them.

The thing I find most annoying and disappointing with digital radio is that I cannot seem to listen to it on Sydney buses or trains without reception repeatedly cutting out on portable radios (tried a few brands/models). Is it not designed to work in moving vehicles in traffic barring long tunnels/underground/etc.? Although they don't seem immune to reception interruptions either, analogue radio is still better for this purpose and Internet streaming buffers though that consumes mobile data. While AM/FM radio works fine driving around in my own car.

I believe there aren't enough transmitters yet. Not sure if it will improve in future. The main problem may be the antenna on those portable units - you're inside a car that blocks the signal. I find it great when walking or on my bike.

  • I can't see a delivery option, it has Free Click and Collect or in store pickup only. Where is the $9 delivery option?

    • Looks like its in store only now. Have updated the deal.

      • Postage back again @ $9. No idea why it disappeared for a short while yesterday.
