      The software itself is free. But there are add-on effects and plugins which are not free.

      I'm not going to install this on my PC to check (no test bench) but if someone can confirm that this has extra plugins then this would be a deal

        The standard install of Express has "over 180 visual effects" included. There's nothing in the blurb from SharewareOnSale that indicates there is additional (paid) effects/add-ons included (everything they refer to is included in the free version available on my link above).

        As NFS wrote, the possible point of difference is the multi-computer license.

          Gave it a shot, downloaded and activated. There is NO difference between this version and the free version. Still single license, no additional effects included (that I could see).
          That said, it's still brilliant software but go through the HitFilm site directly so you don't end up on a SPAM registry.

    The free edition is one license, one PC?

    This is the normal version, but it is really good software.

    This is the sort of dodgy tactic that shareware on sale do all the time
