Why does the price change when added to the cart?

  • Major differences between the DC58 and the V6 Slim?

Liking for something mainly for carpet and maybe bedding.

    • If you have shaggy or plush pile, V6 Slim isn't great as the motorised head will stop spinning.

And DC58 doesn't have a wand so not realistic for carpet.

      • Only low pile carpet and maybe some low pile mats no shaggy or plush pile.

But I heard there are attachments available for DC58 so considering that which one is better or best or what are their specific differences? I see a lot of other DC ranges as well but have no clue as to what their actual changes are.

Anybody with more information please let me know and help a fellow vacuum cleaner semi enthusiast out haha lol.

If you're going to get the 58 you can buy a wand from eBay for about $50, you really need a wand if you intend to do floors/carpets.

Just be aware that the main annoyance with these things is emptying them, they don't hold much and the dirt clogs around the cylinder, especially things like long hair.

Apparently the V8s are much easier to empty but also much more expensive.

I only have a small place with loop pile and hard floors and the V6 is great, rarely use my barrel vacuum.

Don't think you'll go wrong with either the 58 or V6, just depends if you think you'll benefit from the attachments and are prepared to buy a wand.

    • I have a V6 and the DC58 (bought in the last sale)

I was surprised at the pricing as I picked up the DC58 for $199 and was amazed to see if at $149 now (ouch..)

We use the DC58 interchangably with our V6 animal. The wand swaps between them and they look to be identical except the V6 animal has a purple plastic cover and the DC58 is just a dark silver..

I think we paid around $600ish for the V6 a couple of years ago (special from Masters) so to pickup a 2nd one for under $200 was a bargain..

Been pretty happy with them. The powered Dyson unit only gets used once or twice a year now compared to the handhelds.

    • I was told by a sales rep the runtime shown in the specs is based on standard flooring. If being used on Carpet the battery will likely only last under 6 minutes. A deal breaker for me. I opted for the VAX BLADE PET PRO SLIMVAC. Similar price to Dyson Slim but 45 minute runtime. Equivalent of the Dyson V8 I believe. Awesome vaccuum and it's insane how much stuff it managed to get our of what I thought were clean carpets. Most sales reps I spoke to from various stores said they would buy a Vax over Dyson. I think Dyson is a bit like the 'Apple' of the Vacuum industry. They were first to the market and could charge a high price, but now you are starting to see competitors which is bringing the price down.

      • Very interesting I have never heard of this. Do you know how much they usually go for at a good price and where from did you buy yours?

If it really is as good as a V8 but much cheaper then damn I might get one.

I know Dyson is pretty much Apple in this industry but I haven't really found any of the Google or even Windows alternatives.

        • I picked up the Pet Pro for about $280. Normal price is $299 I believe. The stores I know who do stock are The Good Guys, Harvey Norman and JB HiFi.

Now I feel like a sucker paying $50 more in the recent ebay deal… great prices.

    • I did the same but I paid through Citibank…Wonder if they would cover this under price protection….

    • but you saved 20% from the deal

Thanks OP, my DC59 battery is kaput and it’s $80 for a replacement plus a new brush and filter is over $110! At $225 for a whole new unit it’s a bargain!

Now I have a replacement to use, I’m going to modify the battery cells in my dc59 :)

    • $80 for a replacement

About $50 on eBay, and if you wait for one of their promos even cheaper.

      • I wanted genuine and could only see replicas for $50. Also tried to use promo codes but the recent ones can’t be used on parts.

Now I’ve got a spare I’m going to buy cells and replace/upgrade it myself. With new cells you’re meant to get nearly double the run time!

    Also noticed the extended warranty is 25% off;

    4 years - $104.96
    2 years - $59.96
    1 year - $44.96

    • +4

Extended warranties usually aren't worth the money and you're covered by consumer guarantees.

      • The extended warranties are much easier at getting the item replaced as opposed to consumer guarantees…

        • No they aren't, and certainly not worth the premium charged.

        • @Scab:
I've worked at JB previously, it is much easier for a customer to get a replacement under extended warranty than via consumer guarantees based on my experience, and it is definitely worth the money on goods with built in batteries, mechanical components ans wireless capabilities which are prone to failure

        • @WayneKerr:

Maybe it's easier for customers who don't have a clue, but they aren't worth the money and usually don't offer any benefit than what consumer law does.

        • @WayneKerr: It's only good for customers with no haggling and bargaining skills aka cluey consumers. If you know how to talk the extended warranty is as good as buying a $100 meal from McDonald's in helping you get your item fixed or replaced.

        • @AlienC:
You obviously haven't purchased $100 worth of nuggets from Maccas

        • @WayneKerr: not for getting something fixed no.. for that I use beer and pizza :)

  • Damn those are awesome prices!

  • Get another 10% off if you pay with giftcards bought through the Entertainment Book.

Price error?25% extra off should not applied to these according to promo T&Cs.

    • +2

I think it's an error as well, can't see why they wouldn't just advertise their selling price rather than discounting in the cart.

Also happening with other items: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/333673

  • Not Available anymore!

  • Not working. Not available

  • +1

I think its a pricing error:

Take an extra 25% off a range of already reduced women's, men's and children's fashion, shoes and accessories*. Discount applied in shopping bag.

But what awesome price for the V8!

  • from what i can see, anything under the sale tab will get you the 25%

    • Even things that are not discounted are getting 25% off

  • Hoping they will correct this, whilst I sit here and contemplate on buying the V8

  • Almost triple the cost for a V8 for very minor benefits hmm.. I mean it is costly but only a little bit justified or maybe that V6 is just a really good deal. Never seen it at this price or lower before.

    • Isn't the v8 much more powerful?

And the v7 same engine as v8 but more sensibly priced?

      • Definitely more powerful but not $412 more powerful or nearly three times as expensive as a V6 Slim.

It's got like 45 minutes run time I heard compared to 20 minutes on the V6.

And maybe 10-20% more suction power iirc but don't quote me on that.

Supposedly larger dust bin or just easier to handle.

Some will definitely pay for the premium like how the new xiaomi robot vacuum is almost double the price atm of the original one but with just some minor improvements.

What I am saying is the V6 is alright for what it is but the V8 is very much a luxury comparatively.

  • Main differences between V6 slim and V8 absolute?

    • +1

I think battery life and suction power and possibly larger dust bin and easier emptying system.

      • Thank you

        • No problem niggerino.

  • My partner wants a stick vacuum. I think it's for cleaning up after our first baby. I had to explain there's house is too big to have just a stick vacuum. We have a good catcher in the high chair too. Should I indulge in a v8? I'm not convinced.

    • +1

I have a $200 Meile from 5 years ago.. it's the blue one. Works a treat for the house.
      Got a v6 dyson 2 years back.
We use the big vacuum weekly for proper house-clean and the stick vacuum for everything in between.

I don't think we could live with just a stick vacuum in our house.

      • Miele C3?

        • Nah looks like the S5 series, but I swear it was around $200, it was not top of the range.
It has 2200 power, whatever they call it.

It's good enough, it's just a vacuum. Spending $300+ on a vacuum seems a bit crazy to me.

        • @HappyPooPants: 2200 Pa most likely or suction power unless you meant wattage or energy usage. Yeah $300+ on a vacuum is pretty pricey. The Xiaomi Robot Vacuum Cleaner is probably the only exception for me atm but I wish it would hit $200 AUD soon because the extra parts and maintenance add up.

  • Mmmm got an email saying Thank you for your recent order with David Jones Online.

To assist with processing your order promptly, could you please contact us to confirm your details…..

Let's see what they say when I ring them tomorrow…

    • I think they send that because they just want to confirm that your card has been used legimately and not fraudulently.

      • Yep spoke to them this morning and they just wanted to confirm my address - said order was going through and should be sent soon.. Thanks OP!!

BTW 5% showing as tracked in my Cashrewards now so will be very happy if they pay that too!!!

  • I collected my V8 absolute plus today.. Yeay! Superb deal.

  • is the dc58 handheld any good for doing the car?

    • No, cordless don't have enough power to do a car and they are awkward to use in a confined spot.

Better off using your barrel with a hose and attachment.

      • I disagree. Unless I’m doing a huge 6 monthly clean of the wife’s car (with 4 messy kids throwing food around) this is perfect for the car. I’m done in less than 10 minutes normally.

Plus because it is so easy to do (no lugging around of vacs and cords) it gets done more often so each clean is usually quicker.

  • This deal really ‘sucks’

  • +2
